My $700 Trans Am

Picked this up the other day for $700. The guy let it go for that price because he said it would not run. I took a few tools and parts along with me. Long story short, I put in a new coil and drove it home.

I rarely see any 1984 Trans Ams that don't have that aero package. Personally I hate the aero package. The ground effects look "tacked on" as an afterthought. I've always thought the 1985-1990 cars were much improved appearance wise.

Still $700 for a rust free Trans Am in that condition is awesome. Very nice find.

The aero package was popular in 84, but was one year only (aside from the 83 Daytona cars) so there aren't all that many out there compared to the later styles. I didn't fully appreciate the look of the 84 nose and ground effects until after owning it for a few years and now i greatly prefer them. I think the 85-90 style ground effects made compromises by having extensions on the front fenders and rear quarter panel, which added more visible seams. I think the 84 is a cleaner look in that regard.

I thinkt he look is anything but cleaned. Like the stuff came from the JC Whitney catalog and is installed with double sided 3M tape. The 1985-1990 cars look like they were built with the ground effects in mind rather than as an afterthought.

We'll have to agree to disagree on this one.

Maybe you've seen crappy ones that are broken and not aligned properly? They are bolted on with no double sided tape from the factory... i can assure you after removing mine for a paint job. I even made my own mounts with thicker steel plates because the factory hardwar was admittedly a bit flimsier than you'd expect. Anyway yeah, it's just opinion no matter which style you prefer. There are a lot more 85-90 T/As out there so I'd expect there to be more people that prefer them. No need to call anything JC Whitney though, that's just cruel! haha.

No, I've seen plenty of them in good shape. I was talking about how they look to me, not how they are really held on. The ground effects on the 1984 cars simply don't blend well with the lines of the car. Again that's just my opinion.

Re: My $700 Trans Am

Awesome deal, I got mine last year for the same price. She did run fine but needed a complete overhaul, and a lot of original parts were missing. Drove her back from UK to France with a weak battery, a leaky radiator, a dying alternator, and no rear brakes...

What engine/transmission does yours have.
