I would also ask for some air tool suggestions for porting equipment and whatever else would make it a easier job. Please be specefic on parts I'm tottaly new to this and I'm going to be trying it for the first time.

I don't have links, but I do have a LITTLE knowledge. I used a die grinder, patience, and a lot of time. I also bought 2 Standard Abrasives Porting kits. These things have it all. Summit has them at a pretty good price. Both of mine were under $85. The hardest parts to learn are, you have to make all intake ports the same, or as close as possible. Same goes with the exhaust. I wouldn't suggest polishing the intake to a mirror finish either. Turbulence is needed to keep the air/fuel mixed. I have polished my exhaust ports, and they look just like a mirror. Because the exhaust on a SBC is not so great, the smooth finish helps alot. It also helps keep carbon build-up down.

I believe there is a tech article on porting and polishing @ this site.If you buy the Standard Abrasives Deluxe kit it should come with instructions.

Standard Abrasives has an article on the basics on their website. If you check archives of some car mags, you might find some articles too. I clipped some articles when I did my first set, but none of them went to any great detail.

-If this is your first time, get an old set from the junkyard to practice on. Who cares if you ruin a head that cost $25, and was destined for a life on the scrap heap anyways?
-If this is your first time, stick to the easy stuff. Polish the runners and chambers without altering their shape.
-When you gain some confidence, port-match the runners to the intake and exhaust manifolds and blend them in.
-If you are using the heads on any port-injected engine, go ahead and polish the intake runners, the injectors are aimed at the back of the valves - so there is less concern about keeping the fuel in suspension than on carb/tbi motors. Polish the intake runners about 2" down from the intake face. - -Leave the bowls alone - you really have to know what you're doing not to ruin the head here.
-If you're planning on installing larger valves(and maybe even if you're not), leave the old valves in when you polish the chambers. This will prevent damaging the seat area(a fairly costly repair, compared to replacing a damaged valve).

Good Luck!
