The other sunday driver.
I have no idea what you meant by that.
I've decided that the Z28 is staying in the garage for awhile. I'll drive it till the first cold snap, then it very well may be a couple of years (or more) till it's back on the street again.
I think I've driven it long enough to determine all the things it needs, and it's a long list unfortunatley.
Engine:
First and most important is the engine smoking. Even though it has tons of power (at least I think), the smoking must end.
I now have - I'm guessing - at least 2K on it since it was "rebuilt". I noticed yesterday that if I downshift to stop for a traffic light, when I take off it sends a plume of bluish smoke out the back.
I'll do a leakdown test to try and see if it's valves or rings. Either way- not good. If it turns out to be rings, I'll tear it down and drive the block down to "you know who" to be remachined. If he refuses, it WILL get nasty. While I'm at it, the heads wil go to Dons machine to have teflon oil seals installed. Then I'm going with a retro roller cam and lifters.
Body:
If the engine has to be taken out, then I'll do the bodywork and include the engine compartment (for a change) and at least prime and seal it. Oh, I and I do intend to get a 4" cowl hood too before it's painted.
Suspension:
Get my SFC's on, change to a good 10 bolt 3.73:1 posi rear, and install the LCA's.
Interior:
Gonna get 4th gen leather seats, new headliner.
- And there's a dozen other small things that need attention too.
IF it turns out to be bad rings, and I have to tear this down......well...give me your honest opinion on this: What do you think if I dropped the compression, added forged pistons and got a blower for it?? Or am I insane? Keep it N/A??
BTW Nutz, you were spotted driving right past me on 22nd and "E". I was doing what I do so often with my car...putting gas in it at BP....

hey thanks man. i really appreciate it. It should make it's grand debut next year at denny's gathering(third gen fest), although i wouldn't doubt it'll have another heart transplant and a big NO2 system to go along with a few months of chassis and engine tuning. It'll have new paint by then, probably an electron blue, aka WS.6 blue. maybe throw some pearl into it so it'll look black at night, who knows. thanks for the compliment though. Long Long Long hours into this thing, hasn't seen the street since Sept 02. I'm itching to tear up the road and track with it.
