New to the site

hi everyone. my name is daniel and i am new to this site. my father and i are picking up an 84 Camaro Z28 this week, so i figured i would join up so i could get info on the vehicle. a little bit about the car, like i have said, its an 84 Z28, it has t-tops, and is in near mint condition. its a 5 speed, has the Z28 wheels, is metallic black with a silver stripe along the bottom (will be changed eventually though), and the stock interior is immaculate. apparently whomever had it before blew the stock motor, so it sat in a garage for about 10-15 years, preserving the interior and everything else. now, it has a carburated 427 under the hood with a mild cam. its a nice camaro and i cant wait to pick it up. we should have it by wednesday or thursday. also, i live in southwest missouri, so i was wondering if any other members were in the area (springfield/willard)? well, thanks for reading and i hope to talk to yall soon and learn a lot. thanks!

You can use the site to post pictures, as long as you don't post more than 3 in one thread. Also, as long as you don't abuse it. (Some people would post 18 different "Check out my pics!" threads to get around the 3 per thread limit") But if you're just posting basic shots, photobucket or the like is great. When you're posting technical information where the illustration is of importance, it's better to host your pictures on the site so they'll always be accessible to people who may benefit from them in the future! In any case - I'm ready to see some shots of your car!

427 bbc or custom 427 sbc? sounds great which ever case the cubes are wraped inside I would guess bbc though since a 427 sbc gets real $$$$ quick

Re: New to the site

well, 88 350 tpi formula, i have an answer for you on the tranny. it is a borg warner 5 speed. from what i am told it is one of the best, but i could be wrong. well it is a 7.0L 427ci, it was a 5.0L HO (so i believe it has 3.73 gears in the rear) with 454 heads, and a cam with these specs:
cam int. .320 exh. .320
valve int. .544 exh. .544
lobe ctrs. int. 107 exh. 117
lash int & exh .000
adv. dur. int. & exh 228
anyways, its pretty bada$$. im thinkin it needs a short throw shifter so i can learn how to drive a stick. yes, i am 22 and have never driven a stick! i know its a little hard to believe, but its true! its hard to believe that this is what i am going to learn to drive a stick in, but i couldnt imagine a better car to learn in. im gonna put a better battery in it and check the alternator in it, because when i tried to drive it from my grandparents house to my house (about 1/8 mile) i killed it and it wouldnt start because the battery was too low. with the excess i got on the loan, im gonna pay the tax and tags on the van i got for my fiancee (2002 ford windstar sport) and then see what i can do on my SATOP classes (yes i got a DUI, not proud of it but it was after a NASCAR race so what can i say? lol) and then maybe it will get a cowl induction hood or some chassis stiffening with some sway bars and sub-frame supports. well, enough said, heres some pics. they are only teasers because the weather here in sw missouri sucks right now, but it was the best i could do!
okay, heres what $6k in cash looks like if you havent already seen it! lol

heres some pics of the car for now!

well, thats all ive got for now. the first pic shows my dad and grandpa (my grandma is hidden behind my grandpa). the second pic shows my dad (who made this all possible and is going to iraq on the 15th as a civillian contractor to work on military aircraft, so please keep him in your prayers!). my dad is the best man in the world (i dont care what anyone else says) and this was the BIG christmas present to ourselves that we are going to start some more work on when he gets back in about a year! i just wanted to brag on my awesome dad, because he hasnt had a muscle car since he was in high school (hes about 52) and i really wanted to get us something that we could both work on and make a good show car and play toy on the drag strip and something that my son (9 months old on the 13th) could enjoy when he gets older. well i gotta go. hope yall enjoy the pics and ill get some better ones up tomorrow when i can. ill just host them on photobucket and paste the links up. later yall

Sweet Car, Looks like its in really good shape and you got a hell of a engine in it. Dad sounds cool! Take care of that car and yourself in it. Any Idea what your putting out with that engine? Get some more pics up in the daylight so we can see it better! Nice find, you'll have fun with it.

Re: New to the site

well, im not sure what the motor is putting out, but we are expecting somewhere around 400hp, which i think is not too unrealistic. im gonna try to get it on a dyno sometime soon, but it doesnt have tags or insurance on it right now, so that makes it a little difficult to get it anywhere. as for more pics, im working on it. i think i have some more pics and a video or 2 of the motor and what it sounds like, so ill try to put those up tonight while im at work. well, speaking of work i gotta get around to leaving. later

Re: New to the site

Looks and sounds great, needs to be cleaned up abit, but very nice. You got yourself a hell of a car there, nice find! In your video it sounded like someone said they wanted to replace the cam in it, going for more power allready, lol. Keep us updated on whatever else you do to it.

Re: New to the site

yeah that was my dad. he said he wants to put a more radical cam in it, but the cam thats in it isnt too bad. i put the specs up here in another post. anyone know what kind of cam would have those specs and if they are decent specs for a cam? we are wanting to get some more power out of it and i dont think that will be too hard with a BBC. if i can get some money stashed away i would like to put a supercharger on it, but i want the kind that doesnt stick out of the hood with the blower hat. i want to keep it looking like a sleeper, but im sure it wont sound like one so the exhaust will give it away. im kinda thinkin about a cherry bomb muffler for it, but im not sure. i would like to do glass packs on it, but that will probably be obnoxiously loud! first step is going to be headers and then work our way back on the exhaust. also want to pull the motor and repaint the block black instead of that ugly red orange! gotta get a cherry picker and a motor stand to do that though. dont know how i would bake on the VHT paint though other than just running the motor. gonna do a different hood too because its got a crack in it right now where someone fiberglassed in a hood scoop. im thinkin 4-5 inch cowl hood. it needs a posi rear end too. also need to put the heater in and the guy we got it from gave us the other parts for the heater and the rear window louvers too. got a little bit of work to do on it, but its great as it is right now. oh and a new paint job too. the paint is nice, but you can tell that it either needed some more body work done smoothing down the body or they screwed up the paint job. i think it was one of those cheap paint jobs from some guy in town that does paint jobs for something like $200-400, so its actually not too bad for what their reputation is. well im starting to ramble on here and im sure i could go on more about what i want to do with it, but im gonna go before this gets any longer. later

Re: New to the site

nice. you guys should get that base run done and then you will have something to look back at. sounds like you are on the right track and already know the long tubes are a must then the other things you are talking about

the t5 is very brittle (I like them alot and they seem to be one of if not the best for having the lowest drive line losses but for the money involved just get a better trans) I know everyone will say go with a t56 (6-speed) but I personally would get a tko tremic and never look back. then a 12 bolt rear and some other traction mods.

good find and have fun

Looks like a pretty nice car! Your interior is in decent shape from what i can see. Not much work needed in there. Kinda makes me jealous. I have a lot of work to do in mine.

Re: New to the site

right on. well i dont really plan on thrashing the tranny, but its not gonna be babied either. it seems fairly strong right now. not really feeling like dropping a ton of money on a new tranny right now when the tranny in it is fine. maybe if the 5-speed thats in it right now goes out ill swap it out. the interior is in great shape. the console around the shifter is broken where it bolts at the rear of it, so i need to replace that. other than that, its probably going to stay the way it is (stock). im pretty sure ive got a leak in the t-tops though because the back seat is getting wet and the interior panel behind the passenger window is wet. i think ive also got some sort of leak under the dash on the passenger side because the floor mat is getting wet. i covered it with a tarp today to help with that until the weather gets better and i can replace the weather stripping. well, gotta go. later
