East Coast F-body Nationals

hey guys,
only a little over a month left until teh east coast nats. july 20th at e-town.
everything is pretty much finalized now. gonna have a few vendors, rapid motorsports, snap on, and zaino. snap on is planning to bring two trucks full of tools
we have car show and drag racing too. trophies for everything.
we also just got a mention in gm high tech performance magazine, so we shoudl see a really big crowd.
every f-body ever built is welcome. we don't discriminate.

I'll be there with the Z, but i'm not racing cause i don't think i'll pass tech. I heard they are really strict there. I might show it although it's not quite ready to be in a car show yet. What does it cost to enter into the car show anyhow?

for salew signs are allowed if you want them. i have no problem at all with some fan coming in just a fan and going home a car owner
zupman,
don't worry about tech. it is a normal nhra safety check. the comments and complaints about e-towns tech have been greatly exaggerated. as long as your battery is held down properly, you have working seat belts, you aren't leaking any fluids, and you have or rent a helmet you will pass tech.
the only thing that has changed about tech is tha tthey are actually checking ahead of time if the cars are above the mandated noise limit. that isn't a big deal though, 95db is really f-ing loud, anyone above that number better be runnin in the low 7's since it is an nhra as well as federal highway limit.

well my battery is held down, but it's held down in the hatch and the box i'm using to keep it there is not NHRA legal. The local tracks around me don't mind cause it's a Optima battery that doesn't leak or give of fumes, but i imagine they'll not let me run there. THat and they'll most likely give me trouble over my seatbelts. I have 5pt harnesses in there, but the roll bar doesn't go in for another month or so... owell, i've never entered it in a car show anyhow, it'll be interesting to see how it does...

How many cars do you expect'll be there? I'm just finishing mine now...not sure I'll run it (I'd like to..but then..I'm wondering just how much good a helmet would do me if I flipped a convertible anyway... in fact, I kinda think I'd rather not have a helmet, and at least get it over with quick ) but the show should be fun. I'd be coming from Long Island..Suffolk County..any body interested in convoying? Drop me an email if you want to hook up.

I just found out yesterday that i'm probably going to the nationals. Someone i worked with quit and he had off that day so now i can have off for that day. I will be going there from keyport so everyone coming from ocean, atlantic highlands, ect. should meet up around keyport somewhere since you have to go past it anyway. Let me know what you think. Also let me know where else you would want to meet

Grrr...I'm dying here. The motor's got all of about 5 miles on it... I'd like at least a little time to break it in before a road trip! The paint's not on..but is should be by the end of the week. Then it's back to the shop for final tune-up... a stereo to install... and not to mention the weather is perfect for top down cruising! If ya see a red convertible pull in with bugs stuck to the wet paint and a guy holding a timing light in one hand and a boombox in the other......that'll probably be me

Tim,

Is there going to be a show to or is it just racing at the track? If it is just racing I'm so down to let everyone see my baby in action. hopefully I will have a base time to beat before I go down there. I am keeping my 86 after all. This winter I am turning it into a cross breed. A 4th gen interior, 4th gen power plant (LS1 baby maybe with a powerdyne supercharger also) and 4th gen Drive train. It will be a T-56 since I love banging gears. It explains my 3 trans mount in less then a year. This time I'm going Poly.

yup, 9am gates. you may wanna be in line around 8 though. last year there were about 75 cars lined up before they even unlocked the gates. we hope to at least match that this year
it is $25 to race or show, $50 to do both, and spectators are $10 each.
it is gonna be a great day, lots of vendors, lots of prizes, predicting great weather, and NO IMPORTS!!!!! hehe
the lot will be covered with f-bodies.

hope to see you gusy there

hey, that was fun ****!!! Lotsa people, lotta good racing, track personelle were friendly, racers were friendly to youngsters like me, and there were a lot of really good looking show cars....

So, what's the date for next year?

Tim, what car were you in? Did ya see the 20.1 that the LT pulled at the track? That was my buddies car... And the track stand that red TA pulled at the beginning of the racing, did he break something after that? I don't think I saw another 10 the rest of the day...

only bad things.... I didn't get my car teched soon enough to practice my launch enough times, and I got sunburned like a ****... and I missed my ET by .3 seconds... ouch!!! Oh well... cars can be unpredictable sometimes... especially those which have only seen the track twice before.... A few 'stangs and imports, and those LIghtnings were irritating, not a nice crowd toward us, but oh well, they were fast...

Do it again Tim!!!!

we will definately be doing it again!!!!!
i wasn't in any car, i spent my day walking around making sure everything was running good.
that red was mike from rapid motorsports, the car was fine, teh smoke was from a rubbing tire. the car actually ran a 10.44 in the elimination for heads-up.(only 2 cars showed for the class) here is the funny thing about that car, those runs were on motor only, he has nitrous plumbed in bui tthe car isn't sorted otu enough to use it, an dhe was also runnign out of gear at teh end of the track, hell of a problem to have he was runnign out of gear at 135mph...lol
overall the show was a success and gives us even more knowledge and info to go on for next year. the planning for the '03 nats actually started about a month ago we are definately gonna see a return for the true radial and drag radial bracket classes, seperating the two tire types was a big hit with nearly half of the cars registered runnign in true radial
beyond that nothing is set in stone yet. i will be posting more info asap about our winners and picks of the crowd. i will also be announcing our new web site as soon as it goes live, hopefully by the end of this week.
thanks to everyone who came, and i can't wait to see you all again next year.

I didn't get to run my car...wish I could have.

I don't know if anyone saw, but I had the black fourth-gen Camaro Z28 with the 17" Torq Thrust II rims. Sat in the show area for most of the day.

I was busy checkin' out some of the sweet LS1s....not as many third gens as I thought, but that guy with the M5 305 TPI with the nitrous kit was one hell of a nice car!

Why don't you plan next years show w/ an GMHTP EFI race or some kind of other F-body event. Not to be mean, but that was a sorry turn out. I think you also got hurt by the EFI race being the week before, so why not conbine them? Just my .02.

the original plan was to have the event the first weekend in august, just like it was held last year. that put two weeks between the nats and any other f-body related event. the track got into a scheduling conflict with soem other shows and i was the odd man out this time. the assure me that we will have our weekend back next year.
the real problem as i see it wit th edraw was the fact taht super chevy was only 2 hours west(at maple grove). when you are serious about competition adn chevy powered where are you gona go, to the show giving out nearly $1mill in prizes or the show giving out about $3000 worht of prizes? you see how we got the fuzzy end of the lollipop on that one too.
i am not a big fan of combining with the efi races because taht limits the years that are allowed to participate. and besides, they are drawing fewer and fewer cars each time because gm high tech performance can't even find the time to cover their own event. the last 3 high tech shoot outs have nettted a total of 2 pages of coverage.
all systems are already a go for next year. we are gonna have a new web site up and runnign very soon, we are already in contact with teh scca to run the autocross that we had planned to have before the schedule change this year, and many of our vendor/prize sponsors have already said they will eb back. we are also gonna expand our promotional work, contacting more regional and specialty clubs to get them involved. this should all add up to soem serious growth for next year.
i think the event is a success as long as everyoen had fun. it sounds liek people had a good time, hopefully they will tell all their friends who spent 2hours inthe lanes at maple grove to take one pass about it and they will come out next year

First of all Saturday was a gorgeous day: saw some nice women, and overall had a good time. Unfortunately as compared to the Mustang and Corvette shows, the turnout was very sparse. I did see a lot of fourth generation F-bodies, but not too many third-gens. Because of all the third gen cars I see up here in N. Jersey on a daily basis, I believe it is very possible to have a much bigger turnout next year. The truth of the matter is, not everyone drives or owns a Mustang. (Hated seeing those lightnings), I'm sure most of us know somebody else with a Gm product, therefore if we all could spread the word to one or two F-body owners we know or meet on the track, hangouts, cruise nites, etc, then this event will grow much larger! Just my .02 cents.
