Infinity Kappa 4x6 plate speaker fit?
I’m looking to upgrade my speaker set up in my 87 GTA. I’ve read in other forums recently somebody recomended the Infinity Kappa 64CFX as a good plate speaker replacement for the dash locations. Has anyone installed these in a trans am? I know the camaro’s have more dash space so maybe that individual was recommending these for the camaro. But crutchfield says they don’t fit the Trans Am’s.
Also on a side note has anyone tried the Kappa 6x9’s, the 93IX model? Crutchfield says these do fit so I would pair these with the kappa 4x6’s if possible. And yes I know these are low OHM’s so I would power these with an amp. Thanks for any input!

463XF 4x6 for the front, 693M for the rear. They seem to be a good match.

Yea those are the newer versions of the two I stated I’m looking to get. Crutchfield says the 93IX (6x9) fits, and that the 693M doesn’t. Or else I would definitely go with the newer of the two as well. Now I just need to find a matching 4x6

Looking at specs, Crutchfield seems to think 3.1" deep is fine but 3.2" isn't. I'm not above modifying the car to accommodate, if it requires a couple plastic washers and closed cell foam to bring the magnet away from the body so be it. Looks like there are also spacer rings available too for a few bucks.

Yea small modification like that I wouldn’t mind either. I just don’t want any cutting or dremmeling if I don’t have to. I’ll just get some forsure drop in kicker ks series speakers at that point lol

Re: Infinity Kappa 4x6 plate speaker fit?
Yea so I see the drivers side is definitely a tighter fit. I just need to know if these specific speakers will fit so when I take it to the audio shop I know they will drop right in or not lol
I called crutchfield and they said the 4x6 kappa’s are maybe a 10th of an inch too deep but that might be managable with a bracket or something.

There is an air duct and a module for the Speedo on the drivers side on the TA that limits space, I believe this is a non issue on Camaros. This might be a non issue on digital dash cars.
A ”plate” 4x6 like the kappa will not fit, a coax will.

I added some Infinity reference series 6402cfp speakers to my dash a few year back. Details here, including trimming the cluster housing, and the driver's side dash vent duct.

Re: Infinity Kappa 4x6 plate speaker fit?
Throwing this potential spoiler out there just in case... but for Firebirds, a Performance Sound option (with a GAIN switch on the dash, a small amp behind the dash and 5" factory subs behind the sail panels) was available and common in 1987, and if you have that, then your rear speakers are 4x6, not 6x9.
The dash requires a shallow speaker with a small magnet and a tweeter that doesn't stick up and out of the cone (much). Mine are Pioneer 4x6 3-ways (not plate). A plate would require the same characteristics. If there isn't such a plate available, there used to be and could probably be found through thorough searches of the net.

Re: Infinity Kappa 4x6 plate speaker fit?
Thank you for the info, I already popped out my sail panels to confirm I have a single 6x9 stock speaker there. So now it’s just trying to figure if the infinity kappa 4x6 plates will fit under the dash. I’ll probly take a chance and order them and see if the audio place I take it to can get them to fit. If not then just return them and go with something else. Either way, I’m confident whatever new speakers I get powered by an amp will sound better than the old stock ones I have now 😁

Re: Infinity Kappa 4x6 plate speaker fit?
Ive been eyeing those infinity 64cfx speakers as well. I have the 6532ex in my vert for the rear seat panels and i installed the 693m kappa's on my friends vert in the trunk and both sound great. I want the 64cfx for my kick panels though, but need to verify if they'll fit first.
Given DynoDaves mods to his dash i would think the 64cfx wouldn't fit with some cutting. The cerwin vega plate speakers in my camaro just fit in the driver side dash. Magnet clearance is the main issue.

Re: Infinity Kappa 4x6 plate speaker fit?
U fellows replacing your indash speakers, are the dash speakers 8/10 or 4 ohm? I know in my '84, the dash speakers are 8/10 ohm from factory.
Re: Infinity Kappa 4x6 plate speaker fit?
From test fitting dash speakers in Camaros & Firebirds, most 4x6 are too deep and hit the gauge cluster. Using a 4" speaker with an adapter makes it a lot easier. There are a lot more options in the 4" size and the adapter plate allows you to space the speakers up some if you only need a small amount of space. We have been selling the Rockford Fosgate 4" for a year or two now and they are an easier fit and work well with or without an amp. For rear speakers, on some 3 way speakers the tweeter is too far forward and gets into the speaker grill, this measurement is more important than the depth since there is enough depth for the majority of 6x9 speakers on the market.

Adapter plate would be needed on the dash speakers. By the end of Sept or early Oct we will have aluminum or plastic adapters available, currently we only have the plastic option. We will also have double din bezels with mounting brackets to install a double din radio into 1985-92 Firebirds. We also sell Kenwood radios (single din & double din).

Re: Infinity Kappa 4x6 plate speaker fit?
1985-92 Firebird bezels & brackets will be on the website late next week, sorry I didn't phrase that better. They use a new Firebird specific bezel and require no modifications to the vehicle. Radio options will be the same for Camaro or Firebird, just the bezel and brackets are different.
Re: Infinity Kappa 4x6 plate speaker fit?
I'm only seeing double din and single din radio bezels for Camaro. Are these the same ones used for Firebird? Do you remove the factory mounting chassis before installing, I would want to preserve it. EDIT: I re-read what you said, looks like they are coming soon. Great, thanks! Only double or double and single coming for the birds?
