UU6 Factory Model Number
UU6 Factory Model Number
Hi Everyone,
I am still on the hunt for an RPO UU6 factory radio. It is the AM/FM cassette with 5 band equalizer and most importantly BackLit with the red face plate illumination. They were installed on the 1983 Daytona version and limited edition 1984's.
I was recently at a Pontiac swap meet and noticed a radio for sale that had the identical face plate and features of the radio. However it was untested and the seller did not know anything more about it, although it still had the factory identification tag on it.
My question is; does anyone out there know of the Specific factory model tag number that identifies the UU6 radio? Any follow up leads would also be Greatly appreciated
Thanks, John

Should have bought it,.. the closest thing to gold you'll ever find at a swap meet !! Red display 80's GM Pontiac radios are VERY ( VERY ) hard to find !!
** Some radios look similar due to an EQ and 3-button cassette; those use later style plugs & do NOT have a red display. ( SEEK/SCAN buttons next to each other and an "APS" button.
** The proper 83/84 Pontiac RED display radio will have an EQ, 3-button cassette, LOUDNESS button, and SEEK / SCAN on the far LEFT and far RIGHT of the station pre-set buttons. ( see pic !)

That is the same radio that is in my '84 T/A. Because my car is unrestored/original except for maintenance, I chose to have the radio repaired by a tech that buy new modern radio. Cost me a lot of money.

Re: UU6 Factory Model Number
I’ve been searching for one of these for years with no luck. I bet I’ve thrown at least two out back in the day when I upgraded to CD players. I was young & stupid. I did manage to find the same radio with white backlighting from a 1983 Recaro Trans Am. I was debating trying to change the lighting to red somehow. There’s a clear plate behind the radio face & I think painting some of the edges might be able to make the display look red.
Not sure how to change the color of the clock though.
