Factory radio part numbers
Hi,
I am one of the rare 3rd gen owners. I bought my car new off the show room floor in 1986. As part of the deal, I told the dealer I wanted him to change my cassette radio to the one with the eq. After he installed it that day, I moved to Texas and it wasn't until I was 7-800 miles away that I discovered it was the GM/delco (green lights) and not the pontiac/delco (red lights) radio.
That has bothered me for 21 years. My GM radio just died and I would like to replace it with the one I was supposed to have.
Does anyone know how I can find the factory radio part number/s for the cassette/eq radio available for the 87 T/A? I just want to plug and play. I am restoring it to showroom quality. My local Pontiac dealer told me it was too old for him to have any info on it.
Thanks ......jster

Re: Factory radio part numbers
I don't know what the part number for that radio is, but I know that Tom at www.houseofcamaro.com had one(maybe two) of those radios last time I was at his place. That was many months ago, though, but he might still have one. He's a great guy to do business with, too, so give him a call and see what he's got.
Edit: hmm, last night when I posted this, Tom's website wasn't coming up, but today it is.
Something to look for, 1985+ Pontiac radios are known for having gray buttons and *****, so those should have the red backlighting. But even so, the actual readout in the display window for these radios is still green, but all the other lights are red.
Something else you'll need to be aware of is that the radio's power and antenna connections changed in 1989. So you'll need to be sure the radio you find fits your 1986(1982-1988 connections).
