Power Wiring experts please help
Hi Everyone,
I just picked up a 1989 Chevy S10 for my winter beater. The problem is it has no radio (has a radio delete plate on dash). I was hoping when I took the plate off I would see a wiring harness and I could plug in a regular GM 80's vintage head unit. Well no such luck. Actually there is no wiring harness for a radio or speakers (Under the speaker grilles they are empty as well).
My question is this. I bought a head unit and speakers and hooked it up. My question is I am not sure how to hook up the BAT and IGNITION portions of the radio. I looked at the fuse block and it looks very empty (because the truck has no options at all). How do I wire these hookups into the fuse box? Any help for a wiring novice would be great. I just don't want short anything or cause problems. The truck is really nice. I am close to having sound so anything you guys can do to help I would really appreciate
Thanks guys..

Does the vehicle have a cig lighter? Or, the fuse panel have any ports for accessories, ignition hot or battery? Do you have an AC/DC Ohm meter?
Re: Power Wiring experts please help
Hi,
No cigarette lighter. The fuse box looks like it has a BAT and IGNT posts but when I put my meter on it I dont get any readings. I put the negative terminal of the meter to a body screw and touch the red lead to those BAT and IGN posts but get no readings (even with the key turned).
Thats why I think I am doing something wrong. I dont need to remove the fuse block panel and do something with the wires behind do I?
Thanks for your help

Does the vehicle have a powered fan switch?
Do you have at least a Haynes or Chilton's repair manual? They contain basic wiring schematics. If not, I'd suggest you purchase one and research the run in hot and constant power wiring diagrams before cutting into or bridge splicing onto the wiring.
You might want to also pick up a couple of in-line fuses if you dont already have them, incorporate these into the powered leads from your stereo to the power sources you choose.
