found a desirable bird in central pa

Hey guys, the guy up the street from me has a 91 V8 Formula and I was thinking of making him an offer for it. He had it for sale last summer, and I guess no one offered him anything for it. I drive by the guys house almost everyday, and I can honestly say that the bird hasn't been moved since last summer. I don't even know if it's been started. It's just parked in the grass next to his house, and the grass is just growing up and all over the car.

Last summer the guy was selling her for $2k, but on the phone he said he'd take 1500. I'll describe the car to ya...this is pretty much what I remember from last year when I talked to the guy.

It's a 91 Formula V8 Auto...not completely sure of which V8 engine. It is/was a nice maroon color, but the paint is faded all over and it could definitely use a paint job. The car has t-tops, and the interior didn't look in either terrible or amazing condition, just about right for how old the car is, though with the expected rip in the drivers seat. No dents or rust the length of the car that I noticed, though that may have changed a bit since last summer. Also, the guy said the air conditioning was taken out, but it worked when he took it out and he'd include it if needed. I don't know if he was doing some performance thing or what. I'm thinking everything is stock.

Now keeping in mind his original asking price...and that it probably hasn't been started since last July...would it be fair to offer this guy 700-900 for his bird? I have 2,000 saved up, but the car will undoubtedly need a bit of work, not to mention...gas.

What do you think? I guess the only thing to do is try, but I don't want the guy to think I'm a cheapskate. I could include some year old pictures of the car if anyone wants to see.

Thanks guys.

Pics would help to decide on whether $700-900 is high or not, do you have any you could upload?

Haha well...honestly I was asking if 700-900 would be too low for this...but ok, take it how you want it. I took these pictures last summer with my cell phone, so they are ok but not amazing. Looking at them now...it looks like the car was sitting before that also. Hmm....anyways see what you think:

Hopefully that all works...

EDIT: A lot of the faded paint is on top of the car as well where you can't see...I'd be ok driving it like that, but eh. Also, does it look like the front piece is newer or something? Or did the paint just fade differently on the plastic? I don't know how that would usually look...

The car looks to be in decent shape. The paint looks fine for a car its age, you have to expect fading and clear coat peel. I dunno what the interior looks like, but the car looks to be worth atleast a grand. I wouldnt really go any lower on an offer than that, even you said he wanted 2,000 last year.

One question tho, will it fire right up? If it doesnt, you can prolly get the price lower.

Re: found a desirable bird in central pa

honestly the body seems to be wroth at least $1000 as long as it is solid and straight. but it also depends on what you have time and money for. if the engine does run and would just need the fluids changed and a tune up that would be great. but if the engine is leaking/ burning oil and runs rough then with a budget of $2000 i would not jump on it.
