Anyone know a place close by me where I can get an O2 bung welded? I'm in SI, NYC. I could go as far as queens or some place in Jersey, just not too far. I'm getting garbage gas mileage so I can't drive too far. Plus I'm burning oil out the rear! (Rings are done I guess?)
Should I go the route of getting a bung welded or just buy cheap shorties that fit the stock Y with a bung already on it? I ask since they would have to take the manifold out in the first place? It's a 350 block with stock heads. They are early year manifolds.
Also, just a little side question: Is it hard to get to the rear main? I know the tranny has to be dropped, but that's about it. I took apart and rebuilt an engine, but it was not a thirdgen and it was done out of the car.
Re: Need an O2 bung welded or replace the manifolds?
to get to the rear main you'll need to drop the trans and flex plate.
what year engine? in I think 86 GM switched to one piece rear mains which are very easy. but if its a two piece your oil pan will have to come down so its a bit harder/more time consuming.
also does your car still have to go for emissions? if it doesn't then I would just buy a decent set of headers with the O2 sensor fitting already installed, that way you'll gain some performance out of it too!

Re: Need an O2 bung welded or replace the manifolds?
the car's an 82, but i'm not sure which car the shop got the engine from. just the stock heads and intake were used. i don't suspect the rear main to be a problem anymore, seems to be the rings. that will be another headache on its own...
i don't have to go for emissions cause it's over 25 and i know a guy if i have to. the problem with headers is that i would need a matching Ypipe, which i would not want to weld myself. could i buy a bung and weld it on myself? shouldn't be too hard...
