Who's good in the tub?
Tubbing out rear wheel well business, that is.
I have an '82 Trans Am and I want to toss a set of tires that are a minimum of 275 under the back of the car. Haven't finalized on the size yet, but I know they'll at least be that wide as I look over my rim specs.
Anyways, I'm out in Pepperell, MA, (15 minutes south of Nashua, NH), and I'm wondering if anyone know of anybody who's real good at doing these types of wheel well alterations who's also not going to charge an arm & a leg or take 6 months to do it.
I'm willing to travel around a bit to get to them too, over towards the east, Boston, down on the Cape, up in "Manch-Vegas," wherever, within reason.
Love to see some good feedback on here from some local folks. Thanks all!

Re: Who's good in the tub?
a 275 will fit no problem without any wheel well mods. for that matter a 295 can fit with minor work.
now you can do a minitub, and at that point i would expect to see something like a 325, anything wider and you start looking into a backhalf job and that bug bucks

Re: Who's good in the tub?
If so, then let's talk about that "minor work" as the final rear tire size is more than likely going to be between 275-295, so if you're right it looks like I might not have too much to worry about.
Would this work need to be done on both sides? The compartments in the back are both at different depths due to the rear spare and the storage compartment so I'm wondering if only one side may even need work.
So what would this work entail? Is it just some hammering that I could do with the utmost of finesse or is it more than that?
As you can probably guess, you got me really curious as I'm thinking I may be able to get my rear work completed sooner than I thought.

Re: Who's good in the tub?
depending on how much you need to hammer you may want to remove the rear seat belts. a 295 will fit fine. how far to want to tuck the wheel in will determine how much back spacing you want. i think they go 5.5-6" bs with stock rear. here is a cool picture...ok triple click the picture then it will be big enough

Re: Who's good in the tub?
I wanted the wheels to stick out only as far as the stock ones are now. I want them to go in more than out as the car is lowered. Still not much of an issue?

Re: Who's good in the tub?
a 9" rim with 5" bs and 275 tire would be a good combo

Re: Who's good in the tub?
I put a 295/50-16 on a stock 16" wheel, on my lowered 92 RS, without modding ANYTHING and completely under fender.
