bad news.
I blew a head gasket tonight playing around in El Dorado Hills.
Any guesses which cylinder I find coolant in when I start dropping plugs?
I will have to do the work next week and get it running again. I can not remember what head gaskets I used however. I will have to research what I want to replace them with.

I love how nonchalant you are about popping your head gasket. Head studs and MLS gaskets!

Anyone have any input on cometic's? http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CGT-C5245-040/
Seems like a popular brand I read across frequently.
Also, Once I narrow down which side needs replacing, should I do both anyways or is it best to leave the good one in tact? Perhaps I should wait to see what brand I have on there now?

Re: bad news.
I probably will since im getting in so deep, I just want to make sure there is no unwritten rule for head gaskets like "if its fine, leave it alone" type of scenario. Not trying to take shortcuts at all, but you know, in some cases it is doing exactly opposite of what sounds right that is actually correct.

Re: bad news.
Well if you were running the same head gasket you could get away with doing 1 side only, but if you plan on running a different gasket, the gasket thickness determines the quench area and does have an effect on compression ratio.
cometic multi layer shim steel head gaskets are known to be very good. MLS head gaskets are known to be better for sealing an aluminum head to a cast iron block.
and I am working monday-friday so I will not be able to observe and sway the results to cylinder 7 so dammit!
you absolutely sure its a head gasket and not an intake gasket?

Re: bad news.
No I am not sure, but considering that I am showing no water in the oil and how tough it would be for a water jacket on the intake manifold to only leak into a nearby cylinder.. It is kind of a given?

YOUR 90-92 CAMARO TACHOMETER BROKE? I CAN FIX IT. PM ME FOR DETAILS.
on your post.
My '91 tach stopped working right after I installed new fuel injectors. So any info on the tach would be a great help.
Thanks and good luck on the head gasket.

Re: bad news.
On other news, Whoever guessed Cylinder #1 is the lucky winner. All I had to do was pop my hood in the light and notice this. I am actually quite relieved it is the drivers side. This means that no coolant was able to wash out my wideband o2 sensor which is located on my passenger side exhaust.
Removing the headers confirmed coolant coming through and washing out cylinder #1 exhaust pipe

Re: bad news.
Calling it a day. Depending on the weather tomorrow, I will yank off the heads. I did a booboo though and dropped a ****ing razor blade into the oil galley in back and I am pretty sure it dropped to the oil pan. I guess I will be dropping the pan when I am all done as well :\

Heheh, yep.
Nice of Vin to offer a hoist from that far away, btw. I know I could use that service someday! Not to mention skills to pull a motor, lol.

Re: bad news.
You guys should read some of these builds where guys do frame offs in the dirt out in the midwest, or in alaska or something like that. Used to read them all the time on the chevelle or c10 boards!
I pulled a roller cam 350 motor with my brother in a hailstorm ~4 years ago, we ducked inside of another car when it got windy and when you moved your clothes you instantly got the chills. All depends on you.
