Plenty done-Plenty more to do!

Well I have been getting a lot done since the fest. Let's add them up;
1. Finally got a drivers license after 6 months. I am legal some $800.00 later. Yea! Now I drive a lot faster in both cars.

2. Replaced '86 windshield. Crack just apppeared one day. Used lifetime warrenty so no out of pocket expense.

3. Fixed exhaust leak caused by missing bolt on '86. Also got tail pipe reattached. Cost $25.00

4. New Goodyear tires all the way around on the '92. Mounted and balanced. $400.00

5. Both '86 and '92 passed emmisions. Yea! I never have to go to emissions again.

6. Planning on catching up with Denny tomorrow to put new wheels (black w/chrome) on the '86. Price dirt cheap.

7. Put thirdgen fest sticker on the '92.

8. fixed drivers window motor on '86. Warrenty so no cost there but I plan on getting a new door from Denny next week before going to paint shop.

All of this since May 30th. Vacation time is a beautiful thing. I don't go back to work until Aug 30th so I plan on getting more done-a lot more. Up next, passanger window motor on the 93 first day Denny has time.

Hood looks great Jay! Still the best fitting glass hood on the market IMO
Good to see it on a car that actually moves.

Still trying to learn body work and paint. Spent 2-3 FULL days filling saggy areas on the front bumper cover alone only to have the product shrink and crack. Guess I'm using the wrong stuff. Other than that, the body is coming along quite nicely. Hood and bumper cover are all that need color now, then it's back to wet sanding and buffing.
PS. Anyone have a decent bumper cover for sale? I gotta finish this thing before summer passes by yet again!

Car: American Iron Firebird
Engine: The little 305 that could.
Transmission: Richmond T-10
Axle/Gears: Floater 9" - 3.64 gears
Went to Omaha last weekend to work the NASA event to score some free track time and got to watch an awesome American Iron race.

Bob Denton took 2nd on Saturday in a Firebird and on Sunday there were 3 'Birds in the top 5! Bob Denton won, with Sidney Franklin taking 3rd and Bryan White closing out the top 5.

As far as the car, just got a steal of a deal on some Victoracers from an SCCA ASedan guy changing tires, so those are getting mounted up on some GTA wheels and then I'm just going to make sure everything is tight on the car. Evidently, the last time I went out the RR caliper bolts werent tight and the bottom one took off. Luckily, the failure wasn't catastrophic and I just had a little gouging in the wheel and caliper bracket, a rotor that needed to be cut, and some new rear pads.

Going to be at Mid-Ohio on July 8-9 and back in town at Autobahn Country Club in Joliet on July 22-23. Come on out and watch some great racing by the AI guys... and hopefully I'll have my provision Competition license by the end of the weekend

Vert Project

Well I just stripped a 85 Z28 that I am not sure what was holding it together it had so much rust and can now start rebuilding My Vert as I have the room in the garage. Looking for a front Strut Tower Driverside Metal, WOuld like to cut out personally if anybodys striping a car to the bone, I was hoping the one I just stripped would have it but lets just say it had way to much rust to use.

Jay, The color is a DuPont dark cloisonne effect with an alternate A. 5 coats to cover with color, and 2 heavy coats 7900 clear. Still wetsanding, buffing, and aligning panels as they are painted. Much bigger job than I anticipated! Trust me, the pics make it look better than it really is, yet, I guess I've seen worse. When it's finished I'll post pics in my garage.

well

Prob is what he has it got alot of rust and would really like to cut it where I want it instead of someone else doing it/mainly since Im the one that needs to weld it in. But denny is a good guy as he sold me my disc rear real cheap when I blew my whole ring gear and pinion up a few weeks ago. Went in smooth once I got all the rusted out brake parts off it.

well i finally got my tires mounted on my car...unfortunatly having to wait a couple of weeks sucks because i was gonna have 2 of my wheel redone but the company i took to have done, wanted too much for just one wheel
so i said screw it, put the wheels on and get on with life...

I'm currently in a debate if i can continue with the restoration project...
it just happens to be a bad time because now because i gotta move shortly and i need the money to pay the rent and buy new appliances and furniture...so that sucks as well...well just gotta take it one day at a time...
