im in the market for some slicks.i was wondering if there would be a difference in performance between a slick used for a 15 inch rim or 16 inch rim.currently my car has the factory 16 inch.

First of all the best selection of tire sizes are for 15" rims. There are a few smaller sizes available for 16" rims. The larger 16" rim tires are for cars like Super Comp and Pro Stock type cars. The choice of a performance slick depends more on the tire size selected. Not the rims size and since choices for 16" rims is low, go with a 15" rim.

Slicks work best with a tall sidewall. A 15" rim will give more sidewall than the same size tire on a 16" rim. A slick with wrinkle wall construction will have more flex and work better.

You'll notice street cars with fancy 17-20" rims have very little sidewall. Although these are fantastic tires for autocross, they are terrible for the dragstrip.

Buy a set of 15" rims and have some slicks mounted just for the dragstrip. Use your 16" wheels for the street.
