Do these track numbers seem right to you..........???

my cousin took his IROC to the track on friday and came up with some "disappointing" numbers. He is not happy with the way his car performed at all. he also said it was "missing" or falling off about 5000-5500 rpms.
here are the numbers:

RT: .683
60': 2.098
330: 6.073
1/8: 9.281
MPH: 76.10
1000:12.08
1/4: 14.42
MPH: 96.85

My cousin and i both feel that the 1/4 time should have been 14.0 or faster and the MPH should have been in the 100s.
the car has Vortec iron heads and a stock chevy crate motor intake. Would the help of an Edelbrock RPM intake and a comp cams camshaft (1500-6500RPM range) help the car much. (Tech at Comp said the cam would match the heads & intake very nicely....what do you think?)
what can you conclude about these numbers....bad for the car or right about where it should be?
thanks for the help eveyone---I posted this on general tech also...didnt know there was a racing section

oh yeah, the carb on there is only a 600. would a holley 700-750 make much of a difference or is that not the problem (i think that it might be choking the car out a bit being small for that motor?)

Seems about right to me. Nothing looks out of place...the ET matches the MPH.

How was the weather? It can make a large difference.

the weather was decent---not to humid.
the car has a set of hooker headers and a flowmaster exhaust.
what else can be the problem?

if it's the first few runs with the car with the new combination of stuff... it's going to take a bit of time to get it ironed out.
sounds like you need to do some good ole fashioned "power tuning" on the car.

Ie. changing the jetting, richer or leaner accordingly, changing the timing, and such and making some more runs to see if the car gets faster or slower, i'd wager to say it will get faster.

you might be right about the carb, if it's too small it will start going rich at the top of the track causing you to slow down.. but it's much much much to early to damn the carb, really just have to take somet time and find the motor's sweet spot for power when it comes to jetting and timing, each one's a lil different... once you get it runnign well the time and effort will be worth it.

another thing. just don't start rippin parts off, and making drastic changes, do it at small incriments, and one thing at at time, so you can keep track of the progress.

thanks pony killer.
we really want to get that edlebrock RPM intake put on though. it looks like it might be chocking in the higher RPMS, so we will need to compliment that with the longer ranging RPM intake.
your right about just "damning the carb" right just yet. if we change out the jets for some bigger ones, you think that it will help out the lack of fuel shortage? i herd that a set of 42# jets will help out and feed the 350 "beast"-----or potential beast.
yes, this was the first run with that car. it had the seats in it and tires at regular pressure. maybe with some changes and different jets, it should be good to go.
thanks everyone, keep the responses coming!!!!

Tune it on a dybo

Thats the only way you're gonna know if its running at its true potential.

I'm not sure if theres a dyno on every corner like there is here in Detroit, but for the money you spend on tuning its money well spent in the long run.
