helmets....wow!
Just looked up some helmets on summit. looked up for snell K98, not one was under $300! Is that the going rate on helmets these days? Im trying to stay NHRA legal here, and from my '06 rulebooks its sayin for 13.99 and quicker, I need a Snell K98. Or maybe I just need to look somewhere else?

well see now, the M-class (motorcycle I think is what it stands for) goes for considerably less, like 150-200. I would assume that a helmet for a bike would be allowed for drag race. Granted Ill probably only need the helmet for the occasional test-n-tune nights, not necessarily for competition, but I dont wanna waste money on a helme tonly to find out that its no good to me at all.

I know what your saying, but the most important thing in my car IS- MY HEAD!If you get the newest helmet- Snell 2005-,you could probably use it for up to 10 more years depending on regulations.Thats 30 dollars per year.Just my $0.02CDN.

SMF has all the information on helmet specs.
Under NHRA/IHRA rules an M rated helmet is even allowed in ProStock class. Only a few specific classes require an SA rated helmet. Anyone driving a door car does not need to spend big bucks on a SA rated helmet.
Current rating is Snell2005. Go to your local motorcycle shop and find an open face Snell rated M2005 helmet for about $100. It will last you many years before the rating is expired and you'll need to buy a new one.
K98 is a karting helmet and is accepted under NHRA/IHRA rules but it's rating is getting old.

Look for new helmets for sale on Ebay. Also check out open faced helmets at cycle shops. New, current Snell helmets can be had for as little as $50.
