Pushing the limits!

I have an 1987 Pontiac Trans Am GTA and all the work dont in my sig expect for the vortec heads those arent on yet. Im running on stock tuning nothing change, no aftermarket chip, and still on the factory MAF with the screens still in it. Well this weekend i went to the track and pulled my best time to date with the times of
60' 1.848
330' 5.503
1/8 8.544
MPH 80.38
1000' 11.213
1/4 13.468
MPH 100.04

And what i was wondering is their anyone else still running factory tuning and computer with factory MAF and able to run these times im pretty impressed i just want to get everyone elses opinion on the subjuect (be honest). these times are also on 245/50/16 street tires Fulda Extremos to be exact. i know that the mph is alittle low but i think thats because of the stock heads and MAF not letting it breath and thats about to change thanks for any comments!

I went 13.7's at 101-102 with the stock chip, stock injectors, stock intake with 383, afr heads, blah blah blah. The stock chip is rich with a commanded 12:1 afr at wot.

Cut the screens out of the maf sensor for a little more power and get some sticky tires, at least some bfg or mickey t drag radials. I used to cut 1.84-8 60 fts on street tires myself.

I would also get some type of scan tool to see what the engine is doing. I was getting 15 degrees of knock retard with that combo and didn't know it until I bought a used autoxray scanner off of ebay. Without information you don't know what the engine is doing.

ya im ordering M/T DR's tomorrow cause at shitty OSW track prep so im hoping with a 1.7 60' and 13.2-13.3 on factory tuning im wanting to megasquirt soon to help out on the tune. i dont really want to take out the screens in the MAF because when i go to the track i take out my K&N and i dont want anything to take out the wire in the MAF and then gotta by another MAF, i thought about taking out the rear screen to help out alittle bit. Thanks for all the comments. Ill let you know if i can get any better times out of the red dragon! Later Daniel

I did a 13.5 with a stock TPI setup using the ARAP bin with 2 degrees pulled out at 3500 and reprogrammed for LS1 injectors. I honestly don't think the car feels any faster with the ARAP bin, I just needed a baseline to go off of since I'm paranoid to read my stock chip (my burner has a tendancy to eat chips). I was on ET Streets but my 60 times were almost identical to yours, track prep has always been on the weak side at my local track. What did you have your base timing set to?

its been alittle bit i think i set it to 12* base timing. i just ordered my M/T DR's and i got them in yesterday so tomorrow at work im going to mount them up and and try my *** off to get a 1.7 or 1.6 60' like i said before i only running 245/50/16 fulda extremo which do awesome with good track prep they hooked but once the VHT wore off that was it. Orlando speed world is the worst track in the state of flordia if i cant hook with DR's then i wont ever hook! im wanting to see 13.3 or 13.2 out of her and i will be happy. i think its possible i have the 2600 stall and im breaking the tires loose at 1500 im wanting to try for atleast 2000 or 2200 while next sunday im going out i will post up my results. thanks guys for the commects have a good thanksgiving! Well everyone i beat my old 13.4 run friday night was nice and cold so i decided to go out for the last time of 06 and it turned out awesome and this is how it went.

60'- 1.814
330- 5.417
1/8- 8.411
MPH- 81.71
1000-11.028
1/4- 13.246
MPH- 101.70

that just made my night i really dont think im going to able to beat that with my stock heads, MAF and ECM but that doesnt mean i wont try i have a set of ported vortec heads, headman LT's and a set of cut-outs that im going to try and put on sometime soon and then she what this beast can do thanks for any comments. Good times.

I'd still cut the screens out of the maf and cut out the fins inside for more flow, even though I ran 11's with just the screens out of the stock maf sensor. Every little bit helps.

The times are excellant considering the mods. Your car must be set up right.

As an experiment you should install the ARAP bin in your car and see if the times improve.

Are you datalogging when you go down the track?

I don't have any spare memcal adaptors, but we could burn some chips at the track if you order one.

If Shagwell has tuned it then why were you asking about factory prom times? Do you mean he just now tuned it? Or it was tuned on the 13.4 run? Sorry I read tuned it and thought you meant tuned the prom, not just tuned the car, makes sense now that I re read it.

well what i meant by tuned it he has a computer that lets you see how the cars running but wont let you change anything. and we tryed different base timing and BLM reading, dialed in the TPS. small stuff like that i have never changed anything in the computer at all.
89gta383 im down for trying different stuff at the track just tell me what to buy and where to buy it and when i get the money up i will. hopefully you can teach me im always willing to learn something new! Thanks Daniel

Heads should put your car hard into the 12's.

Im also going to polish the stealth ram while it off i just pulled it out the box and stuck it on.
