Re: Safety

things I can think off the top of my head,

Driveshaft loop required if running slicks, tech can call drag radials slicks at his disgression.
Convertibles running faster than 13.49 must have rollbar and SFI 16.1 restraints
Helmet must be Snell 95, K98, 2000, 2005, SFI 31.1, 31.2, 31.1a, 31.2a, 31.1/2005, 41.1, 41.1a, 41.2, 41.2a, 41.1/2005. SFI 31.x = SA SFI 41.x = M
IHRA also allows Snell 9o for 11.50-11.00.

NHRA only. All non-OEM supercharged, non-OEM turbocharged, and nitrous cars need SFI 3.2a/1 fire jacket.
Flywheel and clutch must be SFI 1.1 or1.2
Flywheel shield meeting SFI spec 6.1, 6.2, 6.3, or 9.1 mandatory.
Driveshaft loop mandatory reguardless of tire type 11.00 and faster.
Rollbar mandatory
SFI 16.1 5 point restraint mandatory, updated every 2 years.
SFI 3.2a/1 fire jacket @ 135mph
SFI 18.1 harmonic balancer mandatory
Aftermarket axles and axle retention device mandatory
SFI 4.1 spec transmission shield required on automatic trans cars
Rollcage required for convertibles or cars running faster than 135.
Rollbar is still OK to 10.00 for full bodied cars with stock firewall, floor, and body.
SFI 29.1 flexplate if car runs 135mph
seat brace for any cars with roll bars

Re: Safety

Thank you for the help. Now I know what I need to go buy. Are they going to check things like balancers and flexplates or is it better off for my safely?

Re: Safety

NHRA and IHRA, Snell 95 and SFI 31.1/41.1 helmets are no longer accepted.

Single layer fire jacket is required at 11.99 not 135 MPH. At 135 or 9.99 you need a 2 layer jacket and pants.

At 11.99, all tubeless tires require metal screw in valve stems.

You need a valid driver's license

5 point harness is date coded and is only good for 2 years from the stamped date.
Dated flexplate is good for 3 years
Dated flexplate/flywheel shield is good for 5 years
Dated transmission shield is good for 5 years
Helmets are good for roughly 10 years. Snell 95 is now no longer accepted and the current certification is Snell 2005.

Re: Safety

So they will do an inspection? How do they know parts like the flywheel if it has the cover?
----------
I was planning on a 8pt cage, DS safety loop, 5pt harness, helmet and fire jacket. I guess I need to invest in a flexplate and balancer now?

Re: Safety

Normally they don't do a thorough inspection but if they do decide to inspect and you don't have the proper SFI equipment, you get kicked out. It's that simple. Same as if you have enough safety equipment to run 10.0. On your tech card, they'll write that you have a 10.0 restriction and maybe you'll run high 10's. You make a 9.8 second pass with a shot of NOS and they'll kick you out and tell you to not come back until you have enough safety equipment to run those speeds.

The driver is responsible to have all the proper safety equipment. If there's ever a problem and they find out you lied, you can be banned from all competition.

All SFI equipment also has a serial number. When you fill out a tech card, you fill in all the required information such as manufacturer, SFI date and serial number.

Since you plan on going fast enough to require specialized safety equipment, buy a rulebook to know exactly what's required. It's up to you to make sure your car meets the rule requirements.

My car gets a good inspection at the beginning of the year. Tech knows what I have for SFI stuff because I fill out my tech card at every race. During the rest of the season, I go through tech and all they ask is if I've done any changes since last race. I'm through tech in about 2 minutes.
----------
SFI flexplate and shield is required at 9.99 or 135 mph.
An SFI transmission shield is required at 10.99 or 135 mph

Nothing saying you can't run an SFI flexplate at slower speeds. Since it's not required in the 10 second range, an expired flexplate can be used.

If you're still using your 10 bolt, you will need aftermarket axles and an axle retention device (c-clip eliminator, disk brakes etc)
