last race of the season, another new best!
another beautiful day. mid 70's and clear. zz17iroc made it out with his hotrod, such a cool car. 383, fuel injected, 700r4, street driven and very fast!
i did run a new best, of 10.85 @ 124.97 so it's getting there! i ran in this order: 11.10 (throw away pass, rolled in way deep, tbrake acting a fool), 10.87, 10.86, 10.89, 10.92, 10.85. slowest mph was 124.55, fastest was 125.16.
i played with the travel limitters a bit. the car sixtied the best with the limitters set at 2" under full extension with a 1.504. the best 1/8 and 1/4 times and mphs were with the limitters off the car and allowing the suspension to go to full extension, but it sixtied slower. the best pass was also made off the footbrake, weird.
brake down of the best ET pass:
60': 1.532
330': 4.454
1/8: 6.913
MPH: 99.86
1000': 9.048
1/4: 10.855
MPH: 124.97

my goal right now is to run 10.90 in the summer heat without leaning on the car too hard. right now i'm shifting at 7000rpm, i'd like to run the number shifting at 6600ish. just to keep it more reliable. right now i think it'd run 11.00 with short shifting like that. so i need just a bit more hp, or lighter race weight.

Man, your catching up to me. I got to step it up. J/K Good times though. That converter seems to be working well. I'm always contemplating an LS set up and those times are encouraging.

it's loud, but what do you expect from 3" duals with bullets? very streetable for the stall speed in my opinion. i drive the car to school every now and then (50miles round trip). trans never gets over 160*. the engine never gets over 190-200* (195* tstat). once it's warm, the engine idles right at 850rpm and is very happy in city traffic. no surging or hiccups. acceleration is very linear, and once into the converter a bit, the car pulls like a freight train, even at part throttle. you guys built an excellent converter, and JP built an excellent trans.
for the record, i'm running a plate style trans cooler, it's a b&m super cooler. (only thing b&m i will say is a good piece, lol)
next season i'd like to make a goal of going mid 1.4x 60' times though...i feel like it would go some 10.6x's with good air and about a 1.45 60' time.

I may be able to loosen that converter up a few hundred. Like 2 or 3 maybe. I'll check into it. An 8 inch would get you 1.4's maybe.

Re: last race of the season, another new best!
here's an in car cam shot of my 10.89 pass. i have a couple more, but they have even more dead space on them than this one does (sorry about that) and need to be edited. i'll try to get more vids up later today.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4G8NT7ltOqs
after watching the vids, i'm only going through the traps at about 6500...the car pulls to 7k. i'm currently running a 4.11 gear, think going to a 4.30 gear would be of any benefit? might get me out of the hole that much quicker?

Your car is nice Matt, it'll surely go 9's on the spray. I was hoping my car would have done better on motor, surely somethings not right loosing 3 mph. But then again those Hoosier QTP's are kinda tall. I keep forgetting that I went from a 26 in tire to a 27.5 in tire, I also was thinking about 4.10's. What do you think?

I may hit the track again on 3 Dec and put the big boy pills in, lets say a 250 shot should do it.

Matt sick video man the car is hauling the mail!!! You mentioned more gear but if you actually didnt mean to shift first late you might have been higher in the rpm band at the line right? Maybe you wanted to shift that high out of first though and if so disregard what I said and go with more gear. Awesome job on the car you deserve to finally click off those sick numbers.

Re: last race of the season, another new best!
yeah, i just shifted a bit late on that pass on accident. i'm trying to do too much in the car right now, and i wasn't focused. the car goes faster the harder i spin the motor...i have four in car vids and i go through the traps at 6500 on all passes. i'd like to shift at 6500 and go through the traps at 7000.
top side limitter is set at 7800. i worry about my production ls7 lifters and my stock rockers with a trunion upgrade at the rpm i'm spinning it to though.

i'm spinning 35k miles stock truck lifters to 7300 and still haven't done that trunion upgrade although it is happening this winter, so I lucked out for 15 passes or so.
7800 is cooking though, guess I should raise my 7300 limiter a bit.

Re: last race of the season, another new best!
yeah, i'm going to take the valve covers off this week and see how it looks under there. oil pressure is perfect. 55ish at idle cold, 40ish at idle hot. 60ish cruise, and nearly 80 WOT. oil looked good on the stick, a little dark considering it's only got 12 passes on it (this particular oil change that is.)and about 150 street miles, but it doesn't look burnt, and no floaters. i had a buddy break a rocker this weekend so i'm definitely a little reserved about the rpm's i've been turning.

That is what the oil pressure in my truck motor looks like, stock replacement pump. My stock lifters and rockers have seen 7200 so often i guess they have proven themselves, but honestly, i am sure the rockers are on borrowed time. How much is the upgrade?

Very sweet Matt. Something you might try is short shifting the 1-2, sometimes it works better that way with the 2.48 low. - If your peak power is 68-7k, then the 4.30 should put you into power a little better and would compliment it better for short shifting as well.
Glad that trans has worked well for you. Like I said, that is the case and most of the internals that I ran 5.3x's on in my car. Fresh sprag, different shafts(haven't been beat on so hard, lol), better clutches, and the BTE vb instead of the CK. Even if you added some giggle juice to it it will last you a long time how you're using it.
I'll try to remember to check out the video sometime when I'm home.

Re: last race of the season, another new best!
AWEsome!! Car sounds really strong! The video spurred a few comments to mind, pointers if you would... The 4.30 total yes, it really comes out strong and sits flat for quite a while, so gear it up or go for a looser converter, 1-2 short shift a Must!! If you have a shift lite, really all you need it for is for the 1-2 so set it for 300-400 rpm before you want it shifted at, you can play with the rpm limits to see what difference they`ll make. 3rd gear you can pull right at peak or past peak so its easy to judge or check tachometer for that one. The 4.30 will have a traction effect, my car loved the 4.30 N/A...et and 60` best, waayyy too much for any hose though, even a 125 hit would run it out of rpm at 1000` with a 29 tire and a loose converter. That LS sounds awesome it`s got more in it for sure!

Re: last race of the season, another new best!
thanks scott. i'm going to keep it n/a. i love the look on peoples face when i tell them it's n/a. i love the converter where it's at, so i don't want to change that, but going to a taller gear won't be an issue at all.

Re: last race of the season, another new best!
Great runs and nice video's, I especially like the in car one. I made a in car video a few years back and of course had my only catastrophic engine failure(spun bearing). Its a good thing the car was loud enough that you couldn't hear what I was saying in the video on the return road when I saw no oil pressure...lol I've never done another in car video since, but maybe I'll give it another try with the new combo next year.
