Autocross??

I live in Richmond VA. and would like to try my hand at autocross next year. Does anyone know where they hold these amature events? I have run at VIR with my motorcycle a few times and it was a blast! I know they do cars out there, but I'm not sure if you need to take a racing school first. Can anyone shed some light on this subject as to where I can go to run my Camaro on a racing circuit? what it cost? and what the regulations are? I just wanna do this for fun, not trying to be a full fledged racer. Thanks

Re: Autocross??

For autocross, there's Virginia Motor Sports Club (VMSC) and National Auto Sport Association (NASA) Mid-Atlantic, and they run the majority of their autocrosses in the pits/parking area at Virginia Motorsports Park south of Richmond. Usually around $30 per autocross, don't need anything except a seatbelt and helmet (and usually loaners are available).

For on-track driving, NASA holds HPDEs at VIR and Summit Point Raceway in West Virginia. The Washington D.C. Region of the SCCA also does HPDE-like events at Summit Point. For the most part, you again just need a seat belt and helmet (convertibles need some kind of roll bar) until you start doing time trials, and then you pretty much need a real racecar with all the safety stuff. Usually around the $250-$350 range depending on if it's one day or two.

Re: Autocross??

Thanks, I'm gonna try and have my car ready this spring/summer so I can sign up with one of these clubs and give it a shot.
