What does your car weigh?

Just curious as to what other cars weigh. Mine seems a bit heavy. Two scales at different tracks show 3600 lbs.

Engine bay is stripped. Just the engine, radiator and ignition system. No power steering. Dash is stripped of all of the vents. Stock wiring harness is gone. Body is all steel except a glass hood. Only change to the interior is the removal of the back seat. Added some weight with a TH400, steel 8 point roll bar, sfc's and Spohn torque arm but still dont think it should be 3600 lbs.

Re: What does your car weigh?

Did you weigh it on MIR's digital scales? Mine was 3450 with me in it. I weigh 180. 100% full interior. Heavy comp engineering sfc's, no ps/ac, but ac box and evaporator still in place, everything under the hood down to the cruise control still there, no roll cage.

Re: What does your car weigh?

I think the best bang for the buck weight reduction on our cars is aftermarket seats. I am in the process of doing this right now, my driver's seat was just over 50 pounds (cloth power) and my passenger seat was 35 pounds (cloth manual). My summit seats are 12 pounds each, should be at least 50 pounds of weight savings including brackets.

What wheels and tires are you running? I know there can be significant weight savings going to 15" weld wheels.

Re: What does your car weigh?

Oh and for my cars, my old car was a 1982 Camaro Berlinetta with:

Fiberglass hood, aluminum heads, no HVAC, no interior, no front sway bar, etc

It weighed 3050 without me in it, about 3300 with me in it.

My current car is a 1989 Iroc Z 5.7 L, I have taken a few steps to reduce weight, it must have been a pig before because now I have it down to about 3350 pounds, although I am hoping closer to 3300 after I replace the seats.

Re: What does your car weigh?

Thanks for the replies. I'll see about weighing it on a more accurate set of scales. Based on the responses the car shouldn't be that heavy.

Re: What does your car weigh?

I weigh my car at the start of every year to get the race weight for the season after all the winter modifications are done. Spring of 2011, my race weight was 3030 pounds with 1780 on the nose and 1250 on the slicks.

My car is still up on jack stands. I just fired the new engine up yesterday but the weight shouldn't be a whole lot different from last year. I didn't do much over the winter except replace the engine.

I weigh around 180 pounds but I don't really care what the car weighs by itself except when it's in the trailer. Once I'm in it, that's the total weight the engine has to move down the track.

3230 last time I weighed it before the tubular k-member, a-arms and coil overs. That was also with the old body kit on it. That's 3000 lbs without me in it.

Re: What does your car weigh?

The camaro was 2950 with me in it ready to race. Should be down around our allowed 2700 when it comes back out.

Mustang is 2550 with me in it & could easily be another 100-200lbs lighter with a few bolt-on light weight components.

I'm right around 190lbs.

Other than the hood, a glass nose is a waste of $. Less than 10# difference from a gutted clip. Same goes for the deck lid. - Lots more places to take out more weight for less cost.

I do know there is a big difference between race glass and standard replacement glass parts.Do the race glass parts require maintenance being thinner and cracking??.Yes-yes they do.But I would think the race glass is alot more light than just 10#.

One thing for sure.I am amazed at what these things wt stock. We have had a number of them, but all where shelled out to the extent of pretty much all that was left of them was the roofs and the sides where glass panels on a tube frame that met a super gas wt or just a touch less.

Mine comes in at 3000 lbs in G/SA. It has stock front seats, stock interior with rear seat removed for the m.s roll bar, stock front suspension, etc. When I started bracket racing this car it weighed just over 3600 lbs until I put it on a diet.

It's not. - The stock fenders & bumper are still on my '86 for that reason. I can easily pick the complete clip up by myself when it's off the car(pops on/off like a lift-off 'glass nose would). Our full tube '85 stang has a light lay-up glass clip and it is actually heavier than the camaro's clip.

Mine is 3480 with me in it (I'm 190).

I took a lot of weight out with aluminum heads, notchback hatch, no a/c; but added quite a bit back in - subframes, heavy (upgraded) suspension parts, 12 bolt, system... I am pulling some of the system out and that is going to save 30lbs and still sound good, along with some other items.

my goal at the moment is to be 3300lbs with 80% interior/street equipment and me in the car. i have a little ways to go yet.

when the powerplant changes, i'm looking at 3400lbs, but that's because i'll be adding some weight up front.

i know those things are heavy, but combined they might be 125lbs...and you'll have to put a little back in when you put whatever aftermarket k-member you want back in and the lexan/fiberglass hatch does weigh something, even though not much. i see only about 75-100lbs total savings from those two.

when you go to do a k-member, give TRZ a look. they have a really nice one available with a removable center bar. with a car that gutted im assuming it has motor plates or will have motor plates when you do a k-member, and TRZ's piece is only available that way i believe.

Re: What does your car weigh?

Biggest reason to do a tubular k-member is space. Opens up a lot of room to work around the motor.

The rear glass window is stupid heavy though, but if he's already got a lexan replacement in then definitely not a lot left to take out. - Everything adds up in the end though. "start taking off ounces & the pounds fall off"

Re: What does your car weigh?

The factory k member is suprisingly light. If you get a mild steel k member and control arms, they weigh near the same. Chromoly will save you a couple pounds for a couple hundred extra dollars.

Re: What does your car weigh?

im 3610 with me in it at the track.

it was 3590 with my 10 bolt but since s60 it jumped to 3660. and somewhere i pulled 50 pounds out somewhere. i would like to say it came off of me but we all know thats not the case. i tip the scales at 190 or so

car is full interior only thing missing is the back seat backs. i have a 8 point cage and my ac is out but i still have a few components of the system in place.

may try to drop it by a 100 or so pounds at some point here. my bigger focus is to move the battery to the trunk and remove my front sway bar soon.
