350HO crate engine, xe274 cam, 1982 berlinetta Camaro with stock suspension, ran 12.2's @ 111 on the motor. I sprayed a 100 shot and it went 11.66 @ 108, I had to let off about 1000' as I had a lean surge at the top of the track.

Street driven, I do miss that car .

Re: Your first 11 second pass. (Remember?)

Cubic inch = 383
Power adder = 50hp shot of nitrous and ran a 11.53
Trans = 700r4
Gear = 3.73
Weight = 3650lbs with me in it
Tire = et street 28x12.5
Altitude = 753ft (Gimli, MB, Canada)
Trailer = yes, I had to trailer it to the track, it's an hr away from my place and I broke too much stuff at the track to be without a trailer. Back then, I could have drove it to the track but it would have worn the tires out fast. That was back in 2008.

this motor ultimately went 10.7x's once tuned and a proper trans/converter was in so this probably isn't a fair comparison.

i built a simple 10:1 355 with an xe274h and some 113 casting heads several years ago. i had problems with it and never got it dialed in, but that combo was pretty quick for what it was. i went 12.16@112mph, nowhere near optimized.

Re: Your first 11 second pass. (Remember?)

Back in 08. My fresh 383 stealth ram efi motor. Had 100 miles on it fresh off break in. Did street tuning and took to track.

3450 lbs
383 11:1 comp afr 195 heads, 230/245 hyd roller, .600+ lift
3600 stall 3.42 gear.

On et streets, first pass i believe it went 1.5x 60 ft not trying to hard and 11.67 at 116? 11 something. Did 2 more passes in the 11's. car was a blast. I miss that setup since it was so reliable and could drive anywhere. My turbo car scares me to drive anywhere lol to many things could go wrong

Last year, first pass my car ever made down the track.

ET/MPH: 11.89 @ 114
Cubic inch: 355, 10:1
Power adder: None
Trans: TH400, 4200 stall
Gear: 4.56
Weight: Never weighed it, I guess around 3400.
Tire: M/T 275/60-15
Altitude: Sea Level
Trailer: None

I only got to make two passes with it, so we'll see what happens this year with some more tuning. I don't plan on putting a ton of money in this engine, but I do have another intake laying around that I'm going to try.

305, home ported.....i mean hacked open head ports when i was just learning, 3500 10" TCI stall, 1 5/8" long tubes, 3.73 or might have been 4.10 geared 10 bolt, i broke 5 of them. vic jr, 150 NOS plate, 700r4 or longshaft th350 depending on which one i hadn't broke at the time.

went 13.0 @ 103 n/a and 11.60s on the bottle. If it picked up either tire an inch or two I'd usually rip the teeth off the 10 bolt when hitting the spray out of the gate.

26x10.5 ET drags on stock 15x7 rims all around. Flat hood....ya I was a badass in 1999.

Re: Your first 11 second pass. (Remember?)

Interesting little data base being built here.
From what I can see at a quick glance: I'd need a lighter car, more displacement, a shot of nitrous, more stall, more gear, ....a tail wind...
I'm a solid 12.5 with: 355 cid, NA, 700R4 w/ 10" TCI convertor foot braking (2200-2500 rpm launch), 3.73, 3700+ lbs, 26 x 10.5 ET Streets, 1000' DA. Driven to the track (150 miles one way)

Who else?

Re: Your first 11 second pass. (Remember?)

Heres a close combo, def would have gone 11's with better air and better valvesprings.

3400 lbs, 350 L98 bored .060 over. Mid 9's : 1 comp. 280xfi hyd roller, holley stealth ram, longtubes, 3.5" cutout, 3600 stall, 28" tire 3.90 gears. 700r4.

All motor, 330 whp with terrible valve float over 5700 rpm.

12.2 at 112.x in likely 500 ft da. Good air there in tx is -800-1000 ft. Should have dropped 2-3 tenths as my 99 ls1 dropped 3-4.

Light car helps. 330-350 whp can get it done in optimal conditions

Re: Your first 11 second pass. (Remember?)

Way back in 2000, it was my second season with the Camaro. I had an old school 383 with stock 400 rods and bolts, stock cast crank and cast 350 pistons running on premium pump gas. Over the winter, I had yanked out the 700R4 and put in a TH350 with a 3800 stall converter. The smog heads came off and some worked over camel heads went on with 2.02/1.60 valves. The engine had a solid flat tappet cam with around .500 lift. Still had the 3.27 geared 9 bolt with 26" tall slicks. SFC were installed before I ever took the car to the track.

I went from a 14.0 at the end of the previous season to a 12.0 at around 117 mph on the first pass of the season. At the time, a roll bar was required at 11.99. The air got worse as the day went on and I never dipped into the 11's. Next race was in 2 weeks and I had a 6 point roll bar installed before then. It added 70 pounds to the car and it took me a few more months to finally get an 11 second pass.

I think the quickest it went that year was 11.8's however on the last pass of the season, I blew up the engine. Those stock components just didn't like spinning to 7000 rpm but it does show that you don't need exotic parts to go fast. Just for reliability.

I think the race weight was around 3300-3400 pounds and the density altitude was around 5000 feet. The car was gutted out for race only but still had much more that it has now.

All footbrake for me as well. Brake stalling as high as possible netted best results in every car or motor combo i owned, but they all had the same brand converter so maybe that was why lol

I saw your thread a few weeks back. It's one of the reasons I started this one. I think from a build perspective they're pretty close. But at 3250 race weight, that 500 pounds lighter than mine.

What's the rule of thumb for weight reduction vs et? 1/10 per 100 lbs? I know it's a generalization but I'd 12 flat if I could shed the pounds.

I wanted a cold air system and I eventually settled on a cowl hood. I'm going to have my cold air but I much prefer the "flat hood" look.

I would have thought I'd get a better stall speed out of my TCI 10" but once I'm at about 2000-2200 rpm, the car starts to creep deeper into the staging beams. My best 60' is 1.7 flat.
If I could leave at 3000, I bet I could take off a couple of tenths. 2/10 in the first 60' is more than that at the top end as I understand it.

Re: Your first 11 second pass. (Remember?)

When i dropped 226 lbs off my 99 fbody in same air conditions i trapped 2mph higher but had traction issues so et wasnt there. Next week i added my spare tire back in and more gas for more rear weight, was only down 120 lbs now for some reason but car picked up 1 mph and .15 from full weights best time.

This was a low 12 sec 110-112 mph ride

We're going to try that in my friends Chevelle after he's sorted out the new combination. One stage for the starting line, the other for shift points.

Not far off the 1/10 per 100 pound rule of thumb.
I've got nothing to pull out the car weight wise. This years car is a Sport Coupe as compared to the IROC-Z of the same year. I've lost the ground effects and power windows but have added SFC's (Spohn) and have ditched the old glass hood for a steel cowl piece. I've even added about 70 sq ft of Dynamat so I'm certainly no featherweight.

Yeah weight kills. My old setup was 3450 with me in it on weld prostars with subframes and 8 pt bar. Had power seats and windows still but light weight carpet and race seats. Still on stock iroc body hood and gfx. Car was 3400 without me bone stock. Still light tho. My 4th gen is 3686 with me. Gutted i got it down 3460 still on heavy 17" wheels. Cut weight will help

Re: Your first 11 second pass. (Remember?)

I really havn't gone too extensive on weight reduction. It has never been a thought to do something solely for the purpose of removing weight (so far). Certain things just helped along with the process. My car weighed 3250 with me in it last year before i swapped to manual steering and an electric water pump. I was pretty shocked to see that it was that low from reading on here what cars were regularly weighing on the scale. I still have the stock interior, back seat and all, lol.

Since last season I have now purchased a ford 9 inch with 4.11 gears, a bigs custom tuned carburetor (ran q-jet last season), and now am getting summit fast five wheels, 15x4 skinnies up front and then 15x8 in the rear and am changing from drag radials to slicks. So some weight may be gained by the 9 inch and some lost with the skinnies up front.

Re: Your first 11 second pass. (Remember?)

Three years ago. Stock L98 shortblock, ported AFR 190's, 236/242 roller, AirGap, 750 Mighty Demon, 3600 Vig, 4.10 and 26x10 QTP's. I went 11.89@114 in crappy air (3000' DA and humid). The engine smoked terrible at the top end. That's when I blew the corner off one of the stock pistons. Putting it back together now with almost no changes except a TH350. Think it will run consistent 11.60's in crappy air. Car weighs 3400 with me in it.

3 years ago....in like 2200' elevation... 11.66@116 i believe with a 1.46
60' footbraking.

9.0:1 355 with a 230ish cam and stock edelbrock rpm heads with a torqer 2 intake and qjet
th350 trans and 5k stall with 4.10 rear gear on 27" drag radials at 3250lbs.

Turned out when we leaked the motor every cylinder was 18-44%!!!! Motor came out of a street car.

Any video clips you could post, would love to see that beast in action...

If I recall correctly, Mr Kid has video from his Pinks experience at Bandimere.
Perhaps I'm mistaken.

Re: Your first 11 second pass. (Remember?)

the speed you can stall the engine up to on the footbrake isn't the stall speed. The stall speed is what the engine rpm flashes to when you mat the gas.

Thanks.... Just an old member who has not been on the boards much lately but always admire our 3RD's, especially those with other Iconic American toys....... What can be more Iconic than a 57' Chevy? I'm 40 and my fathers first car was a 55' Dodge . Car was a tank......

Yeah. It's all relative though. If I had a convertor that let me foot brake to 3500 rpm then it would certainly flash past what my current TCI 10" does.
That said, what kind of foot braking rpm could you expect out of a convertor that flashes to 4500 -5000 rpm? Or further to that what kind of stall would I get with a trans brake and my current convertor?
This would all help in the 60'.

Re: Your first 11 second pass. (Remember?)

you want your stall speed to be a little below torque peak production. Call up PTC, coan, transmission specialties, etc and get a good converter made up and you'll drop 60' and pick up ET.

My first ptc flashed to 5400 just about and boost came in about same time but i could footbrake to 3000 before crept thru brakes. Now if brakes were hot from doing bunch of hard stops, i could get alittle higher. Its all gonna vary tho

Back around 96 to 98 I had an 84 Monte Carlo SS that was emissions exempt (up to around 95, you could pay for a permanent exemption in MD). Went 11.7 or 11.9's at about 117 (timeslip long gone)...last pass of night and last time I had that car to track prior to selling

Cubic inch = 406 (11.1, ported stock heads w/ 2.02/1.6 valves, Lunati cam 246/.545 or there abouts, 750 DP Holley, Hooker longtubes, true duals)

Trans = TH350 w/ TCI Street Fighter stall (3500 rpm)
Gear = 3.73
Weight = whatever a Monte weighs.
Tire = 275/60/15 Hoosier Quick Times
Altitude = 557ft (75/80 Dragway in Monrovia, MD)
Trailer = nope

Was gunning for 11's with Iroc but just sold supercharger and going to be running n/a for a while.

Yup big twin turbo diesel! Very fast, we were neck and neck most of the track. By 1000 ft i had a car on him. Only street car to beat him that night. My most memorable race because it was so close. Never had one like that

Re: Your first 11 second pass. (Remember?)

Nov, '00. Just 18 years old.

'85 Monte SS w/ truck 350, Vortech heads/intake, Mr. Gasket headers, HEI dist , NOS 150 shot and Transmission Specialties T-350 with 2800 stall.

I had only been to the track 1 time with the car and it ran 12.70's because I was a total amateur. I had been taking a ton of heat from my older brother and best friend because they both had GN's that ran mid and low elevens. I got my stones broken constanly. However, I knew the car was much faster because I had been cleaning house every night down in Philly and even beat my buddies GN who ran 11.40 @ 118. He was pretty sore about it and made a lot of exuses. We decided to take my car back to the track to set the record straight.

It was a very cold Sunday at Atco Raceway. I torched the NOS bottle until it was glowing. I turned the distributor until it couldn't go any further. I melted the slicks until the engine almost shut off. I put my foot down on the gas and brake so hard it activated the Full throttle NOS switch and I left with everything!

11.60 @ 119!!!
