suspension parts

hey guys i been reading awhile i figured i would make a post of my 800 dollar third gen. i bought it as someones jacked up drag car project at best. i been working on it pretty steady since march. i really just want a consistant 11.50-12 second car. i am not new to drag racing at all. my dad has a left hand drive roadster. i have a umi torque arm and hotchkis sfc. i believe everything else is stock. my question is what else would you guys suggest? i am really on a budget with a wild two year old and my wife not having a real steady income. here are a few pics. it was pretty much full interior car when i got it minus carpet.

Re: suspension parts

lca relocation brackets, box in stock lca's, drop front sway bar off, put largest rear sway bar you can find (iroc, 1le, ws6, etc). front v6 springs. i went 1.62 with those things. car ran bottom 12's at the time.

Re: suspension parts

thanks man. it was a v6 car so i would suspect its stock springs. i really got lucky with this car as far as money goes. i am gonna drop the motor in tomorrow. its been a slow process but its coming along. just hopin to make it out by the end of racing season.

Re: suspension parts

well no luck on gettin engine put in today. bought motor mounts from jegs awhile back and for whatever reason they wont work. i called a tech guy and he said yea you need the moroso ones so just send those back and we will swap em out. there must be an issue with them cause he didn ask any questions or anything. oh well work on something else for a couple weeks i guess. i thought about welding them in to make them work but i think it will be better just to be patient.

Re: suspension parts

There's nothing wrong with having an aluminum dash but you will want a covering on the top. If you ever have to race into the sun, the light reflecting off the dash is blinding.

They're ugly, they're cool when you're 18 but then when you get into your mid 20s you ask yourself why the hell you ripped out a perfectly good, and by good i mean better looking, interior. I've been down that road.

Re: suspension parts

i know i need to put something on top of it. i noticed the other day sittin in the car the glare was terrible. and as far as stock dashes go its a race car it does not need all that extra in there. the dash was in bad shape anyway but if it was in good shape it would have still came out. i am almost thirty and still no regrets. haha thanks for the advice tho guys

Re: suspension parts

what do most people cover their dash with? i was actually thinking about painting the top of it. and as far as nitrous goes i would rather just stick with a n/a motor.

Re: suspension parts

most people now-a-days keep the stock dash in it. gut behind it, and put your stock stuff back in. makes the car look SO much cleaner and more complete.

Re: suspension parts

My race car is so gutted out that a stock dash would look out of place. I'm not sure what to call the covering I put on top of the dash. Sort of a cloth/carpeting type of material. It was many years ago and I can't even remember where I picked it up from. I simply glued it to the top of the dash and never regretted the decision to make an aluminum dash. Easier to mount things. Easy to get under it for access. The way my cage tubes run down the a-pillars to the firewall, a factory dash would have been too cut up to make it look nice. If you have a full cage and the a-pillar tubes don't go forward enough to interfere with the dash then a stock dash could still be used.

Re: suspension parts

the carpet aklyiroc is using is called "Ozite" and can be picked up at most parts stores for basically nothing.

i still prefer the look of a properly interior in the car though. my car runs 10.9x's on motor and has full interior, including back seat still.

Re: suspension parts

dude, first off thanks, second, my car was completely gutted too with an aluminum dash (i think the same one as yours, jegs?) I just threw a VFN dash in, bought a factory replacement carpet, and got some used door panels, that along with the plastics for the doors and A pillars from some guys on tgo. And it looks a million times better, and i'm still missing more interior pieces than not. You'd be surprised what those few pieces will do to the interior and they really don't weigh anything. Oh and get a matching passenger seat too
