Group Buy on Parts????
Hey everyone. I was just wondering if anyone would be interested in getting together one day & checking out some parts at Hawaii International Racing School. Here's the story. I went out to the track on 8-11-04 to see a friend testing out his new drift car. They rented the track for a closed session for testing & tuning that day. I ended up talking story with Tom Bryant later on that day. For those of you who don't know who he is, he heads the racing school. Anyways, he just so happens to have a whole bunch of third gen parts that he's trying to get rid of. Also, he has a rolling chassis Camaro that he wants to get rid of also. (pretty much a shell, no engine & trans, with wheels. Don't know what kind of rear is on it. But it does have a rollcage in it!) For those of you who might want to build a "purpose built" car, drifting or drag racing, this car might be what you are looking for. I kinda got a price that he's looking at for everything that he has. He told me around $1000 to $1200 for everything, including the Camaro. But I'm sure everything is negotiable.
So, if anyone might be interested in taking some of these parts off his hands, just let me know. I still have to email him back to see what days & times are good for him to go down & go through all the parts. I don't have too many specifics on what he has as far as parts go, but just from looking at them that day where he had them, it looks like alot of misc. parts. Door shells, aluminum driveshaft, 9 bolt rear parts, etc. You get the idea. So let me know!!!!!

Also interested in the other parts.
If necessary, I have some extra change and can get the whole bunch if that's helpful.

Lookin' for a good rear with good axles. Also, a small handfull of suspension parts so I'd be interested. Or, at least to come check it out with you guys if it's on the weekend.

I'm also lookin' for a window motor. Working or not, either side- but preferably a working drivers side. Ya' think he'd have any?
I guess I'd probably have to gut a door if he did have any....
edit: are both sides the same motor?...

Ok I got a hold of Tom just now. Pretty much any time Monday through Friday we can go down & check out the parts. I just have to call him before we go down so he knows we're coming. I know this might be hard for some to go during the week but I guess me & Ed can go & check it out. I work nights so going during the week isn't a problem for me. He was really kinda hinting to me that he wants to get rid of everything so if anyone else can come please let me know what days are good for you. Tom said around lunchtime is a pretty good time for him. So let me know cause I'm ready to go. We've got Ed's Van & my Truck, so hauling stuff isn't going to be a problem

If I can't check the stuff out with you guys, could you take a camera with you? I'm looking for suspension stuff and a rear. I can help you guys transport crap if it's on monday or a weekend.
I'll pitch cash and time if there are things I need, and I can borrow my buddies truck for haulin'. If he wants to get rid of everything, we can probably get enough use out of it all between the bunch of us. Plus maybe we can get a decent deal to take it all off his hands.

Ok here's the lowdown on what's happening. I finally got a hold of Tom today at Drift Session. Monday is not a good day cause he's got the SCCA event going on. The earliest day we can go down would be on Thursday. I'm gonna go probably around lunch or a little afterwards. If anyone can make it please pm me for more details & to get my cell #. If you can't make it, I'll be taking pics to show what he has available. I already talked to Shawn, & if nobody can make use of the shell he might take it. So let me know!
Oh yea. Once again, Tom is really stressing to me that he would like to get rid of everything in one crack, so I figure that if he has a lot of good goodies, that we can all chip in & have our own little "junkyard of parts" hehe. I'm willing to front about half of what he was asking for & we could go from there. I think he was thinking around $1000 to $1200 for everything including the shell like I said earlier. I'm sure this is going to be negotiable. But we shall see. Laterz!

I can be there Thursday lunchtime to look at parts and shoot digital pics, but because I'll be going into Honolulu working that afternoon I'll be piloting the IROC and not the van.
However, I can help pickup parts on Sat. or Sun.
Right now, the only part I really want is the aluminum driveshaft, but being the pack-rat I am, I know I couldn't resist buying a bunch more stuff.
My office phone is 655-4376, ask for Ed [I'll pm U with my cellphone].

I get paid on friday, so with pictures plus my paycheck, I should be able to make a more solid judgement on what I'd want and how much I can pitch in. Keep us updated man!

Here's a link to the layout of the entire area. Instead of taking the turn to enter like you are going to go watch drag racing, you go to the stoplight. Then you turn left. The street name is Malakole St. Keep going down & you will turn left into a driveway. I think that there's a sign there that says Kart & Racing School entrance. I'm not sure. Go check out the link to help get a visual.

Oh Ed, I don't think I can make it there that early cause my wife gets off of work at 12. I'm gonna try & pick her up right after work & shoot it straight down to the Raceway Park. ( I need her to watch our daughter that's why ) I'm coming from University Ave. so I don't know how long it's gonna take. We'll work something out. I'll keep you posted.
Keola, cool that you can make it! Maybe you can meet up with Ed & both of you can check it out before I get there.
I'll keep you all posted.

Ok sorry but got some bad news Ed. Tom's not available around noon now. So I'm gonna go down at about 3pm to go check it out. I'll still be taking pics.
And Keola, let me know if you're still coming. Thanks guys.

If you see any complete rears (I guess even without brakes) please take an extra pic for me if it ain't too much trouble. All I'm lookin' for is a good rear with straight axles. Posi is nice, gear ratio doesn't matter. Nothin' special.
Also, I'm lookin' for window motors. Working or not.
Those are the only specific things I'm lookin' for. I'm definately interested to see what else he has. Like I said, I'll pitch time and cash!
Thanks for doin' this Anthony! I wish I could go with ya'. Feel free to call me for any reason.

This pic is for Scott. I don't have any specifics other than the obvious, it's a 9 bolt. Normally they come posi. It came out of a Firebird according to Tom, but not sure what yr. And Scott, if you don't want it, I'm gonna take it

this pic is for Shawn cause if nobody else wants this shell, I think he wants it. I think it has a different front clip & bottom ground effects than original. I suspect it is a Berlinetta judging by the dash & gauge setup inside. Not sure what year it is though.

Not a very good pic but there is a bunch of goodies in here. Brand new struts,(but they've been sitting so only the casing is still good I think), i think 2 complete sets of ground effects for Camaros, brake rotors,(not sure of the specifics on what kind), & a posi unit from a 9 bolt(not sure if it's a 2 series carrier or 3).

I don't want to push it with the pic limit so pm me if you want pics of these parts. 2 complete sets of later 91-92 Camaro 16" rims. 3 earlier IROC style 16" rims.(one rim is MIA but it might be around). a "catback setup" with 3 inch pipes & a flowmaster muffler with single tip. 2 interior pics of the rolling chassis Camaro. Door shells for Camaros.
OK here's the deal though. Tom's very firm on getting rid of everything in one crack. He also has a pretty solid price of $1200 for everything too. I'm willing to dish out $700 & hopefully there are parts that you folks want & can help support the remaining $500. I think the last resort I can think of is trying to ditch the "rolling chassis" Camaro, but I highly doubt I can change Tom's mind on that one. But we'll see. Hope all this helps.

Anthony

Nice.
If you want that 9-bolt, take it! You're doin' all the work bro! But, if he doesn't have any other rears... maybe you could sell me whatever you'll be replacing with that 9-bolt.
Does he have other stuff, or does he want 1k for that?

I'd be interested in a set of wheels... too bad he doesn't have any pontiacs though. I'd need to go over a few things before I can spit out a certain amount of cash to pitch, but as long as there is something I can use I'll definately help cover it. 1200 sounds like a lot for that.... we should try to talk him down more. Anthony, what do you see there that you'd pay 700 for? You're putting up too much cash I think.
We'll sort this out eventually, I don't think there is a rush on our side since no one will "outbid" us.

Yeah at first it seemed like a lot of money for what seems like a small amount of parts, but I did some calculating. It actually seems like a pretty decent deal & I think all the rims contribute to that. I'm looking at selling off what ever I don't use if nobody else needs them & my turn around should be pretty good. Oh, one thing i forgot about was a clutch setup from tilton. I think it's a racing company. It's a triple disc clutch setup with a spare pressure plate setup if needed for rebuild. I think these are expensive.

I'd also like to get some other stuff, maybe a set of the 91-92 wheels if they're cleaner than mine, some of the later model aerodyamics, such as a 91-92 wing and front cow-catcher, and I'm sure some mechanical and interior stuff.
Please send the set of photos to my email so I can browse...

Car: too many ...
I can put up some cash. I'm interested in the 9 bolt posi unit (not the rearend, just the posi) and the rotors (if they are for the 9 bolt PBR's). Those 3 older IROC style wheels, which 3 are left? (fronts/rears?).

They're probably 3 fronts!
I really want to go down to check it out with you guys, but class keeps me locked up in town all week; so I'm only free on nights and weekends... just like cell phones.
Ya' know... if no one wants that chassis and we can't get sell it off... maybe we should all sponser a tight-budget racecar. Hehe.

That way we can organize & sort through the parts because I'm not sure on the type of rotors, & which wheels are left(I know you want the rears Shawn!) Everything is really scattered & piled up everywhere. I'm sure Tom won't mind if we organize some stuff & confirm what is actually all there since it is our money :D I'll keep you posted.

1. The nuke blast shelter I work in blocks gamma-zammas.
2. The IROC is too loud to hear cellphones most of the time, or even listen to music.
Anyway, called you back today and will meet Thursday to catalog parts onsite. Heck, I might be interested in a complete rear if it's an upgrade to my original 3.27 IROC one...

Ed
