Feeler: Might be parting out my 450hp show car...Body, interior, etc - TONS OF MODS
So I have been trying to sell my car for a while and can't get much of the money back out of it that I put into it...
https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=311727
I can either suffer a loss by selling it at the price posted (or slightly less) or I can part it out if I get enough interest. So if you'd like, shoot me some offers for parts and I'll give them some thought.
The car is in excellent condition and over 95% is new or rebuilt (less than a few miles on most of it, has new $4k paint job, 1LE brakes, etc., etc.)
***My ideal situation (if I do part it out) would be to sell the rolling chassis as is, suspension/wheels attached with the interior and just engine and tranny removed. This would save someone some major cash if they already have a motor and engine.
Now for some notes...
- the engine is staying in one piece (Super Ram to oil pan with the exception of the headers)
-body is staying together - it has a NEW $4k paint job and I'm not about to part panels out
-the interior pieces may or may not be up for grabs - I'd like to see if i get interest in the rolling chassis first.

oh man I used to look at your "for sale" post on craiglist all the time but I never had enough money to buy your car. I bought an 89 IRoc and well I still drool from seeing yours but if want to sell some parts I would really try and buy them as long as they are not to expensive just send me a PM with what you want to sell that can help upgrade my 89 and we'll go from there. I live in Santa Clarita so im sorta close to where the car is.

I have seen your add on craig's list too awhile back and wondered the exact same thing... why would you go through all that trouble to build that car up and sell it before you even broke in the engine (add said it had like 5 miles on it), I would atleast want to have some fun with it and see the results of all my hard work...
That is one clean car though...

It does sound like a retarded idea if you look at the big steps you've all heard/read. I spent some serious cash on the car then want to sell it for a fraction of the cost invested or even part it out before I really get to enjoy it.
Its not even half the story. I'll break it down. A few things actually came into play and we are talking about a span of about 4-5 years. I bought the car and drove it about a month before I stripped it. Then the rebuild process began and happened slowly over the course of about 2-3 years. My living situation changed dramatically just months before I finished most the car... that was about two years ago. I moved to a place where I simply could not keep that car safely (no garage, little to no street parking, kinda ghetto, etc). So to avoid storage costs and my car getting ripped off/vandalized I got my father to store it at his shop in SoCal where it sleeps covered and untouched. Problem is, that happens to be 440 miles from me. Flying down to work on it was a nuisance but I got it done (at least the mechanical). Then my life and my priorities changed some more and I rarely had any free time to go and work on it, tune it, drive it, enjoy it, etc. And to this day its in the same state it was for about the last year - just about everything except for the tuning is done. Its waiting to come out and play but I personally don't have the tme to make that happen. Someone could have a kick *** time with this car but it won't be me until I get my finances squared away and find a place with an extra garage space. I don't see that happening for a while however.

dont sell it unless you really need the money. and even in that case take out a loan. i know you will be hitting yourself over and over again when a time comes where you are able to keep it. sometimes i start to think about selling mine for a different one...even though i like some colors better, could have gotten a better deal, its still my car, and has a little of my own personal touch to it. do yourself a favor and hold onto it, at least for the time being.

I simply cannot believe you have not sold that car yet man!
I remember it on craigslist...I was certain you would sale it...I mean, that thing is cherry.
I am with the others man...don't take a loss for it, and don't part it. I am doing the same 383/t56 set up in my vert now. I know how much work you have put into that baby. FOr $13.5k, that is a damn steal man!
Is it street legal btw?

Think about it.
I agree that it looks very cherry from what the pics show but, most of the true Iroc die hards that I know would never pay 15,000 for an Rs camaro. It's a beefed up clone, and that's insulting enough. People want the real deal for that amount of money.
Unless it's intentional and that's what they are looking for.
It's bad enough that the camaro Iroc 350 is called a poor mans corvette. We've come too far to get the lil respect that we do get.
He's been trying to sell that car for years. If you know the right people and you know what you are doing. 450+ hp is very easy to obtain for way less than 15,000 dollars nowdays. Very Cherry too + Supercharged!
He would possibly get a much better response by parting it out.
Then the next issue would be what he's trying to sell his parts for compared to new? Most guy's that know better aren't going to pay full price for used when you can get it new with a warranty for around the same price or a lil more/a lil less. And it still needs to be tuned, that's one of the most important Elements ? $ $ $ $
15,000 Geez's for an incomplete RS project that's been sitting for years, not I say's the Iroc. Most of us with camaro's are already fighting an uphill battle with $ $ $ $ $ What about Emissions and tags ? ? ? ? To be continued.......

I dont post here much anymore, but I'll make an exception.
The price of the car is 12,000, not 15,000. Also, next time you feel like posting up about how somebody elses car isnt worth what their asking - go ahead and think twice.
It's a ****ty thing to have to sell something you've slaved over, and then to take a huge hit to the pocketbook.....
have a little compassion and respect.
I hope I run into you in your IROC someday.
Beautifully done car by the way
Nick

i also have seen your car on craigslist and wished i could buy it, but if you really would like to keep your car (i definitely would) there is a place in san francisco called bay area motor club www.BayAreaMotorClub.com where they rent out work and storage places for people who love cars but dont have a garage, just thought you would like to know, but if you do decide to part it how much would you sell the superram setup for

Needs tuning?
That has always been a redflag for me...
no offense...it is a sweet car, but tuning is sometimes the most difficult hair pulling experience.
If you decide to part, would you ship the rear to texas? I would be very interested.
Thanks!

Tuning is probably the most tedious. I'll put some more work into it with my new wideband O2 meter once I get some extra time. Then I'd try to sell it again. If all else fails, I'll be taking it to shows and perhaps putting it up for sale again there. So hold off on your parts requests for now.
And about the fact that its not a "true" IROC - congrats, you're right. I never said it was such a car, nor would I ever want to flaunt it as one. Those days came and went before my car was even made.

If you ever decide to part it out, how much would you be looking for for the rolling chassis? If you think I'm nuts being from Canada and whatnot, my neighbour buys and sells old cars/parts from the southern states quite frequently and can ship a car from anywhere in the US for very decent rates. I have a complete extra car lying in a pile in my garage and need a nice, solid, and preferably well-painted body to put it all in. I wouldn't even really need any more suspension parts than are required to transport the car, nor the interior...but let me know what you'd want to get if you part it out.

I feel your pain...lol. I have over $16,000.00 invested in my car with no paint or bodywork done. I ran into much the same situation as you, no time to finish it and an illness that has taken all hopes of finishing and enjoying it from me. I have been trying to sell it for $8500.00 and have had no luck. Granted your car looks way better then mine paintwise but the fact remains I'm selling this car half price and no one's interested. Like you Im considering parting mine out, but when I think of all the work and hassle it would be, its seems less worth it then just taking the hit and selling it whole.
If you can even find the time to take it apart and then you have to price, pack, and ship every piece, which turns it into one big PIA. You've already lost more than your labor putting the thing together, now you have to loose the time you'll invest in taking it back apart in addition to the hit you'll take on the parts themselves. Its sad that the minute a new part gets put on a car, no matter how little you use it the part is still used and everyone expects a major discount. It hardly seems worth the effort for the money you'll make, which pisses me off. However, I guess if thats the only alternative then so be it.
Ok, I'm done ranting, its beginning to **** me off....lol..good luck with your situation either way you choose. Just a thought, have you tried selling it on ebay?

thats why i bought mine almost all the way done, just need a better trans and im set. a total of 6500 for it and its nice, new motor, new rear, very nice original paint (might as well be new), new interior, rims+tires, you get the point. he probably lost more than i can afford, not including the price of the car.

Oh my gosh!! I just can't imagine parting it out, and I am even more amazed that you haven't sold it, given the fact you are really giving it away at the price you are asking. I don't get what's with people who wouldn't want to even consider buying this car if they are in the market to buy a third gen camaro with all that you have done to it. I know my car isn't as nice but I do know how much money I have put into it to get it where it is today, which is probably close to 15000.00 and counting. That's over the 10 years so far and I have owned the car for 21years. For me, selling isn't going to happen since I know that I would never get anywhere near what the car is worth. I figure someday to give it to one of my grandkids. My son in law sold his prized camaro about 3 years ago and has regretted ever since. I used to tell him, just put away for now and some day you'll be glad you did, but no, he sold it and wishes he hadn't. Really though, I hope you can find a solution or at least can find someone who would give the car a great home and enjoy it for all that you did to the car. If I was in the market I would love to find a car with all that you have in this car. JMO and sorry for the length. Good Luck.

Well, i'd take a lot of the chassis off you, springs, subframe, panhard, swaybars ect, as long as shipping isnt TOO bad.
