well i searched the site and google but was unable to find 2 things. im going to rebuild the heads and use them(unfortuneately) for about a year or so. i can not however find the stock sping dimensions or the length of the valves. i know its 1.94/1.5 76cc heads but i just need that last bit of info to get some parts priced and ordered.

All you have to do is pick up any parts catalog.

Factory SBC valve springs are 1.230" OD and usually have an installed height of 1.700"

Factory SBC valves are 4.910" long.

Any good service manual will give you a lot more specifications.

when i logged onto summit it gave 3 different sizes. also this engine and heads were swapped into my car by the previous owner.

Unless you have some really weird application, you'll never get a valve that's shorter than stock. The shortest length available is stock.

Longer valves are available for longer and wider springs. They will allow for more lift on the cam, higher spring rates and will have a higher installed height. They will also change the valve train geometry changing the length of the pushrods required.

Ask your local machine shop on the cost to rebuild and install new valves, springs etc in the head. Then price out a set of factory assembled replacement heads. The replacement heads will probably be cheaper.

993 is a decent stock head, just have them redone, maybe some 2.02/1.60, shave down to 70cc. and a little port matching and wa-la! We run them on our round track cars. 882,993, and 441 are the best we can run (441 being the best of the 3)Andthat way you can spend a little bit of money at a time instead of a bunch all at once

Stock replacement heads are not that much. You can get a new set of iron vortec heads for $600 fully assembled and they'll be much better than those 993 heads.

Ask your machine shop how much a new set of valves and springs will be plus the cost to assemble and machine the heads to new specs. Even if it's close to the same price, the aftermarket heads will still be better to use. The only way assembling old, used heads is worth it is if you can get parts dirt cheap and do all the machine work yourself. There's more to it than just putting valves and springs onto the heads.

im rebuilding the engine but dont have enough money to buy new heads. do you think i should put any money in these (use them as is for a little while) and wait to get some good heads?

Go to the junkyard and grab a set of complete SBC heads and bolt them on. It'll still be cheaper than rebuilding an old set for short time use.

any reccomended casting numbers? or off certain cars/trucks ect.

here you go. unless you want a 64cc head,461,462,186,041,291, and so on......but good luck finding these, and you'd still need them checked out and probably at least valve job and seals

For what you want to do, just pull a set of heads off any 350. If you're lucky, you may even find a set of Vortec heads.

Yeah, But if he finds Vortech heads hes gonna have to buy a new intake. Is that in his budget?

lol i have like $3000 in my cart at summit. more then i want to spend but an intake is in that price all ready. so i would just have to change it. for all your input guys. ill shop around the junk yards and call the machine shop and get an estimate to get the heads worked.

Year one, brand new 350 400+hp,$2999.99. 2 year,35,000 warenty. Thats where I'd go.......

that 3 grand includes suspension, steering and other various components. basically everything to restore my car less paint.

theres a fort about 2-3 hours away. there might be a few small bases around here to. i found some one who just bought some new heads for a stroker but never installed the engine. he paid about $900 so we will see how much he will want for them. they are world heads, they any good?

World products are pretty good but my block and heads are made by Dart. When I purchased my block, I liked the Dart block better than the Merlin block.

I was asking cause a friend of mine signed up and was sent to MO for basic. Figured if you were close you could go slap him up side his head!LOL. I have a stout 355 I can sell you fairly cheap, but it wont run on 93............Thats why I'm not using it. Didnt realize the compression was so high. Some where between 11.7:1 and 12:1. I dont want to spend more money on another set of heads to lower the compression

theres no basic here but their is some technical training schools in MO. might think about your engine but your not in my driving distance

yeah basic is in texas but their is trainging, i cant remeber what its called, here in mo. its basically to learn to drive all kinds of vehicles. busses, forklifts and what not.
