Motor mounts revisited ...??

I've read quite a few of the posts about changing motors mounts... Bent wrenches, Swivels, wobblies, extensions etc.... 3-4 hrs and a lot of cursing....
I'm doing this right now with the motor out of the car, fairly new stock height springs...
Question being, is there any reason I can't just cut the heads off the bolts let the rest fall to the ground and feed new bolts back throughout the K member with a piece of string and put the nuts on the the upside? Seems simple and time saving but is there something I'm missing?

I used mine as an excuse to drop the control arms (I wanted new bushings and ball joints anyway.) With a buddy it took about 15 minutes to reinstall each side.

Re: Motor mounts revisited ...??

Just did the ball joints/bushings... without the weight of the engine trans I don't want to attempt compressing the springs....

I used Energy Suspension Poly Mounts.
I installed mine with the engine still in and with out dropping the control arms.
I understood how difficult they can be doing it this way so decided NOT to use rubber. I don't want to have to do that again for a long ,long time.

Compressing the springs isn't that hard. We attached the ball joint to the knuckle, then I laid across the fender while a friend used a jack on the control arm. Once you get one bolt through, the rest just falls together.

Re: Motor mounts revisited ...??

Thanks for the input... unfortunately I'm stuck doing this by myself... I managed to get them swapped in about an hour. Bought a flex head ratcheting 15mm Box wrench $25. Held it in place on the nut from the underside with a long screwdriver and used a regular ratchet from the top. Contorted my body around the K member.
Putting them back in I put the lower bolt in regular then pulled the top bolts through with string and tape.

Re: Motor mounts revisited ...??

I used the Energy Poly mounts when I did the front suspension last year... don't want to repeat that anytime soon....
