The Novi lives again

Well she's up and running 100% finally. Got her running with the 749 code in the 730 ecu. No more FMU. Any one burning their own and running a blower should really consider the swap. Running 36 lb ford injectors and just need to sort out a minor idle problem. Other wise she goes like hell Only a little bit of knock retard and that may be gone now with the latest chip.

Looks like the final number is 10# boost at 5500rpm. A bit higher than I had wanted initially but it's definately workable now with the 749 code. Should have my water/alky injection up and running next week. Hopefully I can have some hard numbers soon if I can get my hands on a g-tech. Gotta look into what I need to do to pass tech at the track, since I moved the battery to the rear. Thanks again to all for the help and support in getting this done. :hail:

749. Isn't that the Syclone and Typhoon ECM. And how the hell did you get it to work in the 730? I'm thinking of doing this myself.

It must be nice to have an ECM that understands positive presssure.

The 749 ECU is essentialy the same as the 730 with a few minor differances. One being the 749 has an extra injector driver and a few other differances but otherwise is identical to the 730. Plenty of reading on the Diy-prom board, just run a search on 749.

I just added a MiniRam to my 89 Formula 350 with a Paxton Super Charger. Runs like crap. TPI says the MAF can't handle the extra air. Anybody else ran into this and are there any suggestions.
1989 Formula 350 +.030, Mini Ram w/58mm Edelbrock TB, headers with 3 inch exhaust (no converters) mild crane cam kit, MSD 6, screens removed from MAF, Accel cap and rotor, Paxton super charger, TCI Breakaway 11" converter with Moser 12 bolt 3:73 gears.

Are you doing anything with the chip? I'd say a miniram is a pretty drastic change from the stock TPI and would definately require some prom work to get it in proper running order, especially when you throw all the other mods at it like cam etc.

I was running the stock chip since putting the super charger back on. After installin the Mini Ram and 58mm TB it went to running terrible. TPI is making me a chip now but they are still concerned that the MAF may not be able to keep up with the S/charger. They said I might have to convert to Speed Density.

This is beginning to sound cliche' but it's the truth. Time to start looking into burning your own. It'll actually save you money in the long run, not to mention you'll be able to get the car running so much better than TPI will. You might be able to get by with the MAF if your using an FMU an relatively low boost, and if you have to convert to Speed Density then go right to the 749 code. Makes tuning with boost a hell of alot easier. We have one of the best prom tuning communities right here, so why not take advantage of it.

Mark, thanks for the replys. Prblem is I know nothing about thiskind of racing (computers, burning chips, etc). I've raced Super Gas for 13 years and can do pretty much anything when it comes to that kind of racing. I run a 588 BBC on alcohol that goes 8.20's at 167. But this....I'm lost. I'm not opposed to burning my own chip, but I don't know where to start. What do you suggest? Jimmy Daniel

Well you've obviosly got a hell of a lot more experience with engines than me so you should be able to pick it up easy enough. I'd just start reading over in the Prom forum. Start with the Stickies. Also check out http://www.diy-efi.org/gmecm/papers/ that should give a pretty good start as well. You're obviously familiar with tuning carbs. Just gotta relate all the differant tables to a carb and it's easy to pick up. Read alot then just jump in.
