Which fuel pump and regulator are you guys using with SC and turbo ?

I was looking at the BG sumo pumps. they have a 750hp and a 2000hp pump. Is there a danger with too big of a pump other than your reg not being able to bypass the extra volume?

I was thinking of buying the 750hp pump for my project. Im planning on a single turbo 355 controled by Accel DFI 7.0. Im shooting for around 650hp. What fuel pump and reg would you guys recomend?

Also has anyone put a sump in their stock tank or even just welded fittings into the bottom? How have people gotten around the stock 3/8" line. I'm trying not to go with a fuel cell but am planning on running new feed and return lines.

Zac, it is against the law in California for people like you to operate a motor vehicle That will have this much horsepower and torque. For the safety of the other motorists on the road, I beg you to reconsider.

Car: too many ...
Currently I'm using the stock intake pump and a secondary pump located right behind my FMU. This is how Vortech does their S/C systems (S-Trim V1). I have an aftermarket Aeromotive electric fuel pump (A1000) that will support 700hp EFI F/I. Thats what I plan to use when I ditch the Vortech FMU (and ditch the secondary pump).

I just wanted to let you know that when you use these big aftermarket fuel pumps, they usually require different sized fuel lines. In my case, my pump requires different sized lines (-10 AN fittings) and the cost to make the lines (the good stuff) is around $400. So be sure to add that to the cost of the fuel system mods when you make your projected costs. The pump was around $300, the lines around $400, then of course the filter, sending unit (havent looked into the sending unit yet) and the injectors to support the ammount of power I want to make. $1500 easy, probably more (still deciding on injectors). And I'm installing everything myself!! Would cost even more if you're paying a shop to install ...

My fuel system:

-sumped stock gas tank
-bent up a new 1/2" aluminum hard line for the feed
-re used old feed (3/8) as the new return
-running twin bosch pumps (smaller ones, if they cant keep up i'll run twin walboros)
-i have a -8an line coming from the sump to a filter.....-8an line outta filter to a Y fitting.......2 -8an lines to the inlets on both pumps.......outlets are -6an lines and they go to a y fitting.....other side of that y is -8an and that connects to the feed line

here are some pics:
sorry, i dont have pics up right now

i'm also using an aeromotive adjustable fuel pressure regulator

Here is mine:

-Sumped stock tank
-Weldon 2025A fuel pump
-10AN supply line from tank to pump and pump to y-block on back of engine
-twin -8AN feed lines to back of fuel rails.
-twin -8AN lines out of front of fuel rails into aeromotive regulator
-single -6AN return line to top of stock tank

seems to be working just fine! Im probably planning a little more HP then you though so you could probably compromise when it comes to fuel pumps as mine is pretty large.

Good luck!

Guido

How did you sump you stock tank? did you buy one or make the sump?

I'm looking for a pump with room to grow in case I ever want to build something crazy. I still drive this car to school some times. Do you have any recomendations?

Also what turbo do you think would be sufficent for me. I'm going single turbo similar to your setup but a few things changed. I want about 650hp. Would I have to go with a T series or would a Turbonetics 62-1 work? Some one told me that would be too small for 355ci.

thanks
Zac

Something like a T70-T74 would work pretty well for that kind of output. You might want a second opinion too. Id give precision turbo, and turbonetics a call.

I didnt sump my tank. I bought it already sumped. Sorry, cant help much there.

Zac, Moroso offers a pre-fabbed sump. Only thing is it might not allow stock muffler mounting location as it's pretty big. You could have one made that's smaller and still get the job done.

If you just want to buy one pump get the Weldon and the dial-a-flow. It's $$$ but if you get the right pump you wont out grow it.

My system:
-sumped tank
-SX pump (should have got the Weldon)
-10 supply from tank to pump and pump to regulator
-SX regulator with -8AN to y-block and -6 return to tank
-twin -8AN to fuel rails

i got my sumped gas tank from a friend but the process you descirbed is what you need to do. the problem with sumping the stock gas tank is the original muffler locatoin probably wont work.

Look at guido's site for probably the best idea on where to put a muffler with a sumped tank

I have a Comp Engineering univeral sump welded onto my gas tank. We had to cut it almost in half and then bend it to shape so it'd fit on the stock tank.

Heres a picture of mine. It looks really crappy because after it was welded there was a few pin-hole leaks so I just went crazy with JB Weld to ensure nothing else would leak. Looks ugly, works great! We also had to cut a hole on top of the tank because there is a plastic peice inside the tank that got melted when my friend cut holes for the sump with a plasma cutter.
