th400, all the way, 3800 stall.
built by a good friend and SITTING in my garage
waiting for my broke *** to put it in a car.
dont even bother with a 700r4, it WILL break.
if you arent putting down sick amounts of power, and on a really sticky tire, a th350 would work great too. just make sure and throw some good parts in it, and a GOOD converter.

Or you could get a probuilt 700r4. His trannies can handle over 600 hp and you have overdrive to go long with it

I agree. I used a 700R4 for three years and primarily drag raced the car. I took it on some road trips but it held up given the beating it was taking. I was in the low 11 range for a good portion of that time period as well.
It must be well built though. I dont know if a stock one would handle it that well.
for what its worth, I bought mine from darrel young's racing transmissions and was very pleased. You might do a search on www.google.com for his website.
Very good product.

getting a th350 from a friend that has all TCI guts and tranny brake along with hardly used TCI anti baloon plate 10" 3800 converter all for $400 in a day or so. He ran it all season with a 8" 4500 converter and the converter died inside of it, so I have to go through it. I prefer building my own trannys anyhow. its going behind a 352 destroked 400 with a really cranked P1-sc
