What does the "R" mean on the prochargers? Does it mean "Race"? Can it be street driven reliably?

It depends on the model. I believe that on some models the "R" means Race, and sometimes it means Reverse. Best to call ATI.

From my understanding it means Race and means it is cog belt driven. There could be more to it than that I'm not entirely sure.

Keep in mind cog drives are harder on the crank snout. Personally I wouldn't run cog w/o a forged crank and an aftermarket balancer.

a friend just put a F-2R in his 86 iroc and the R stands for reverse rotation on his .in other words it is mounted out in front of the motor.

The "R" doesn't mean reverse or race. It's just an impeller trim.
