i have a chance of picking up a 4-71 blower for real cheap, was wondering if anyone knows anything about them and if it would fit on a small block 350?

Re: 4-71 blower???

IDK how blowers are rated but I _think_ it's something like--

4-71: adds 71 cubic inches of air to a 4 cylinder
6-71: adds 71 cubic inches of air to a 6 cylinder
etc...

It's been years since I heard some guys trying to tell each other what the numbers represent.
I may be wwwaaayyy off tho. I'm sure someone will educate us!!

Re: 4-71 blower???

A 4-71 was originally a scavenging pump for a GMC 2-stroke diesel with 4 cylinders of 71 cu.in. The 6-71 was for 6 cylinders of 71 cu.in. Hotrodders adopted them as superchargers in the 50s and the terminology has stuck, even to things like the 12-71 and 14-71, which don't correspond to anything that GMC ever made.

It'll fit on an SBC if you get a manifold and belt setup for it.

Re: 4-71 blower???

would that thing not need to be spun really high to make a decent amount of boost thus creating heat? dont know too much about roots style SC, especially a 4-71.

Depends on what your idea of decent boost is.
