Suggestion: Post statistics per user
I just had a crazy idea.
How hard would it be to implement some statistical data views per user?
For example a bar graph with # of posts per year, month, week, day.
(And a pie chart version for marketing lovers )
Some board SW provides basic statistics. Could we extract this data and display it graphically?

Re: Suggestion: Posting statistics per user
While it may be possible due to the fact we have all the necessary information, a few key questions are 1)Is this really necessary/valuable/useful and 2)Is it worth the resources to implement and scale?
As ThirdGen.org is strictly a "tech-only" website that is based on "quality" (not quantity) posts, I'm not exactly sure I see the future for this tool beyond what is already provided by vBulletin's (our current forum software) current statistics that are displayed.

Re: Suggestion: Posting statistics per user
I agree that it is not a necessary feature but I thought I'd post it "just for the heck of it".
If you look at this club, why do many of us put bigger engines in our cars? Why do we add this or modify that? Is it necessary? Not usually. Do we do it "for the heck of it"? Often. Do we do things just because somebody says: "you can't do it"? Heck yeah, we wouldn't be men otherwise!
If any of y'all webmasters like the idea or feel like it would be a good challenge, I think it might make for a nice fun project. But to be clear, I'm not demanding that this be done. As the title says, it's just a suggestion.
Cheers
Lou
P.S.: If I get bored in the upcoming future, I might tackle this on our regional board. Just for the heck of it.

I admit it may look "cool", but will it really be used? Does it really add to the technical nature of this wesbite? I just honestly don't see the usefulness in designing, developing, or even borrowing, such a feature.
That's just my quick take.

Re: Suggestion: Posting statistics per user
I completely agree with you, JT, I never meant to make it sound differently.
I was just trying to explain why I suggested it (and again, it was merely a suggestion, not a demand).
Actually, the main reason for my suggestion was my increased reply frequency in the Electronics section. And I was curious if it was only a feeling or if I am really replying more than before. That's where I thought of the posting statistics.
Anyway, I agree that it would be only eye candy for most users and doesn't merit its implementation.
But hey, I warned ya, it was just a crazy idea!
Take it easy, guys, and thanks for taking such a good care of the board.
