Why is the AIR delete pulley smaller than the AIR pulley

I orderde both the AC delete and AIR delete pulleys from GM direct and got them in about one week. I went to install them yesterday and I noticed that the Pulley on the smog pump is significantly larger than the one one the AIR delete bracket. I just did the AC delete for now and left the smog pump. Everyone say on here that you should be able to use the stock belt but it looks to me that the belt will be too long if I install the AIR delete bracket. I mean the differnce is significant, like 4" to 6". Is there a difference in the later models 91, 92?

larry, i have seen some that the belt goes around and some that the belt goes under the pulley. dont know for sure which one you actuallly have. if it is ribbed (like mine is) the belt goes around it. mine was the same size as the pump pulley. you may have gotton one for another model.

Yeah, its ribbed so the belt goes around it, thats the way it is on the diagram. Im going to measure the difference but to the eyeball it looks a lot smaller thant the smog pump pulley. The AIR delete unit I got looks exacty like the ones in the pics in this thread, smaller than the AC pulley. But the pulley on my smog pump is bigger than the AC pulley. Weird

The pics I am referring to are in this thread

I believe (cause I thought the same thing) that the pully IS smaller, but the center is not in the same location as the center of the smog pully, so it should still work as planned.

I havn't installed mine yet.

hmmm, good point. I had not thought of that. I guess I will go ahead and try it this weekend. I hope you are right.

this is what ive read online elsewhere, but i havent seen it myself.
i ran for years with nothing but a long straight streach between the crank and the AC... nothing in the smog pump area.

Well I looked at the smog pump delete pulley and the center of it would definitely be off to the left (from the front) of the center of the smog pump pulley, so it looks like it will work.

Unfortunately upon trying to remove the AC bracket I messed up (rounded out) the torz bolt that is actually slightly behind the smog pump pulley. I assume that the AC bracket must come off first in order to get at the SMog pump so now I guess Im stuck with the smog pump pulley.
