Engine fire....need help in Katy
Back in December I was driving my Camaro and my brakes went out and my idle rpms climbed up around 1500. I figured my brake booster vacuum line was unplugged and drove the last mile home. When I popped my hood there was a small fire around my distributor but thankfully I was able to put it out. Initially I though my distributor must have oversparked and set those hoses on fire, melting them. Well today I finally get around to replacing the cap and rotor (just in case) and found out the problem was much worse. Apparently any and all vacuum lines and hoses in the firewall/distributor area are either melted through or burned to where they will just crumble away. It looks like it was maybe a fuel leak related fire, so I got very lucky my whole car didn't go up since it burned for at least 6 minutes before I realized what was going on. I originally figured I'd replace the cap and rotor along with the vacuum line for the brake booster. But now I'm in over my head, there are so many hoses and vacuum lines that are toasted I don't know where to start. I need help from someone who has some real experience with fuel hoses, vacuum lines, etc. I'm really in a bind, I'd like to get my car driveable again soon. I'd really appreciate it if anyone is willing to come over and take a look at what happened under there. Please help!
