Official 2010 Houston area Summer meet - Post here!

I know a bunch of you guys/gals are ready for another gathering/BB-Q. So here it is!

Please keep all posts on this thread related only to the gathering.

I need all of your thoughts and suggestions on date/time/place etc... in order to accomodate as many of you as possible (like usual).

To new comers -
We usually have 20 - 40 thirdgens of all makes, models, in various stages of project completion (so don't be ashamed if your car is still in rough project status), BRING IT OUT, we want to see it there~!

We also do a BB-Q where everybody signs up and brings a little something, whether it's drinks, pack of hot-dogs, paper towels.. etc... (Sign up's for items will be on separate thread). But, we always have a ton of food with plenty left over, so come hungry!

Also, if you have to bring a vehicle that is anything other than a Thirdgen F-body, still please come, but park in an area outside of the area where the F-body's are (this is for picture taking purposes).

Well, here is the plan....

Place: Bear Creek Park (in Katy, TX)
Date: Sunday - June, 20th 2010
Time: 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM

BB-Q will start at 3:00 PM, so people bringing items, try to be there by 2:00pm.

Also, a friendly reminder - No Alcohol (park rules) and Harris County does patrol regularly! And NO burnouts (state law!)! Harris County does patrol the park regularly. We usually have our gatherings here and don't want to get banned!

Thoughts, suggestions, comments, etc.. please feel free to post here on this thread.

Mike (1bad91Z)

Once we're all in agreement on place/date/time, I'll post a separate thread for the BB-Q items/sign-up.

Ouch! That's about a four hour drive each way for me - but it sounds like it's an event that shouldn't be missed! On the 26th there is another meet planned in Georgetown! Two weekends in a row of third gen meets - it's a dream come true!

I really need to get in the garage and get some work done! If I can get her painted before then you can count me in! The wife & I have a KILLER burger recipe that we'll have to bring - unfortunately it goes best with an ice cold beer!

Re: Official 2010 Houston area Summer meet - Post here!

We usually have a decent turnout with plenty of thirdgen's, friends, and food! This is the Houston area's big TGO hoorah that only happens once a year, so make sure you attend!

I'm going to let it run another week or so and then finalize the date/place/time. But so far it seems it's working for everyone, so let's hear more yay's/nay's so we can set it in stone.

Mike

Hey Mike whats the word on renting out one of the pavilions? Last year was fine without it but i think it would be better place for everyone to congregate. Last year we were everywhere.... just a thought... the date works for me as well.

That IS cold!

I think Sunday will be better since it WONT be "Juneteenth", but it is Fathers day.

I called Bear Creek Park and asked to reserve Pavillion #1 for "Third Gen".
They said that they will hold the reservation until Friday, but by Friday someone needs to drop off a deposit check for $125.00.

They said it must be a check and it will be returned if all the trash is picked up afterwards. So they will not deposit it.

Anyone in that area want to go take care of it?

At the time, Kevin's car wasn't in the condition is now (it wasn't perfect)
Although it is pretty killer now! Kevin's a good guy, I've known him for several years...

It's just his way to tell everyone to do the best they can to check out / fix your ride before you make the trip that way we can have the most cars at the meet as possible. Hell, even I had some minor issues that day!

I think the place/date/time is going to stick soon, unless anyone has any objections.

Is someone able and willing to make the deposit? I'm over an hour away from that side of town...

I keed, I keed..

But seriously, if I was you, I would not be going anywhere without one of those within reach after that happened last year. I couldn't imagine dealing with that. & your spirits staying high are even more impressive.

As far as me making the meet, not too sure yet. My car is still missing a functioning engine & is visually still close to the same poor condition as last year. I'd hate to make y'all look at it like that two years in a row.. Oh & plus I'm supposed to be receiving what some refer to as "a little bundle of joy" that is due to arrive somewheres around June 2nd. So that may damper my ability to go... ANYWHERE!!

On the bright side, I do have a steady job again now, pay is not so great but its steady so after I play a little catch up maybe I can start buying what I need to fix my car or maybe just find a little less abused shell/ interior to start on. Mine doesn't really have much going for it at the moment.

Well sorry if you didn't want to read my life in two paragraphs, it all sorta related to this thread right?

Ok.

yeah, I didn't mean it in a **** way. it just came to mind.
its a shitty thing, but I bet that story never gets to old to tell.

I don't carry a fire ext. but I think I am going to get one soon.
I would cry like a little girl if it happened to me now. I have a big dollar agreed value policy, but can't replace 20 years of memories.

anyway, Hope everyone can make it there with there cars.

NICE !!!! funny but i already have a fire exstinguisher in the car between the two rear seats... its just a grab away .... Didn't like the ones that install onto the a pillar... I do however need to go ahead and bolt that puppy down rather than have it just sitting there in mock up mode... Was kind of waiting to see what it looked like once i get my seats back from the upholstery shop. Oh congrats on the buddle of joy!!!

OK, tomorrow is tha last day to go put down a deposit if we want to reserve the pavilion...

Remember, they will not cash your check, just put it in a folder and hold it until after the meet. As long as we clean up afterwards you will get it back without it ever being cashed (I think).

So who's it gonna be?

For the Summer they get reserved about 3 months in advance.

If no one made it over there today we can try again next week, but they will not hold it without a check.

Cool!

Thanks Larry, you're the man!

Now we will have the BIG grill, lots of tables and even a couple of power outlets for a radio or something. Maybe we need a "Boom Box" with a bunch of '80's music playing.

We will even have a dry place to hang out if it rains. Speaking of that, I suggest that we do not have a rain date. We should go, rain or shine. I missed one once when the forecast called for severe thunder storms and it turned out to be a bright sunny afternoon.

Also, what about the "After party"?
Cruise to a car show?
Drag strip?
I guess it will be a Sunday so there wont be much going on...maybe a "Before" party Saturday?

Anyone interested?
