F-body week July 15-22, 2006 in Mrytle Beach

If Mustangs get a week every year why shouldn't we?

Seriously though, I believe this will be a great chance for f-body peeps to get together and hang out, etc.
Also, with almost a year to plan we can make it a pretty big thing and you have no reason to not plan to go now.

If interest comes about I will try to plan a couple of get togethers or something while we are down there.

Spread the word and lets get this going EARLY!!!

I think it would be great. Things to consider..

Getting local participation / sponsorship. Dealers Custom shops, etc.. maybe the myrlte beach Chevy /pontiac dealers would be interested in hosting cruise ins. Perhaps Hard Rock, or broadway would be interested too? It would have to be planned WAY in advance, and we'd need a LOT of organization to get it done.

Myrtle is busy as heck normally, and then you throw us all in the mix it makes it wose.

Other than that.. Im IN.

Does anyone have any contacts with Hawks? Since he's local, he seems to be the logical choice for a sponsor.

we should do it in Gatlinburg/Peigon Forge, TN...Just got back (a couple of weeks ago) from the rod run down there. To many cars to see in one weekend. The local goverment is much better on stuff like that than Mrytle Beach...oh yea and its not as hot

Why not do both?
Have a weekend rod or um F-Body run in Pigeon Forge TN.
And have a F-Body week in Myrtle Beach SC.

Oh yeah. This topic is not going to die!! I have it posted on many boards and hopefully we will have a good turnout! Spread the word and yes, I am going to start trying to get in touch with local vendors/places down there so that we can have at least 1 or 2 organized events.

BTW Pigeon Forge would be good to do in the Spring/Fall IMHO.

Great Idea

Ok so we are all in agreement about having one in myrtle.. soooo...

Facilitys, we need a place to set up. Vendors?!?!?

Hawks, Year one, FBodyMotorsports, I can go on because most of these are fairly local.. year one is in ATL, so its not tooo terribly far.

Biggest thing is organization and $ how to put it on.. how much $ will it cost.. to be oraganized.

Events will have to be insured, and Insurance for shows is not cheap either..

All these things need to be addressed.

Then y ou get to the mundane things like T-shirts, Plaques / trophys for the show,(assuming there will be a show) and dont forget about sticekrs to designate who'll be in the group, and who is just a spectator. You may wanna talk to the guys that put on the Gathering in Atlanta.. they may at least be able to assist in some form of advice if not more.

I nominate Purple 92 SS as President of this venture. He seems to know what needs to happen. Plus, he's already the president of another car club.

fadetoblack:

Thanks for the nomination...but unfortunately between my 2 jobs and my club plus family life, I really dont have the time to co-ordinate a gathering that will be taking place over 150 miles from my home. It would be a perfect world if we could get someone from the Myrtle area to co-ordinate and do the legwork.. i am more than happy to add my advice, but as for much more than that it would be hard to get me available to be the co-ordinator.

That being said... I am willing to help whomever chooses to head this as much as i can..

Thanks.

Purple 92 SS ..... That's cool. Since you are the closest one to Myrtle that is currently talking about this, and since you are the president of a club, can you think of anyone to head up this operation? Maybe another member of your club lives near Myrtle and would be interested.

unfortunately my car club is based locally in columbia area. Now as for who to plan / co-ordinate things in myrtle it would have to be a myrtle resident I'd think someone who can get to places like broadway, and the chevy/pontiac dealers and what not to see what it takes to get the facilitys, and sponsorships.. at this late in the game though, i'd say if we're serious about this gathering / cruise then we should be planning for 07 not 06.. 06 is already too close now.

You guys just give up and roll over. Someone tells you it cant be done and everone just says "OK". I own a HVAC company. Everyone told me I couldnt do it. 5 years later people want a piece of the action. Just do it, if there are 5 people there, well that was 5 more then last year, it will grow. **** the pontiac dealer. When its 5 thousand they will want a piece of the action and come. The beach week didnt start with 50000 bikes. I was thinking about a Smokey and Bandit run. The only thing you get is satisfaction of knowing you did it, like ironbutts for Goldwing riders.

Why don't you check out a local Hooters closer to date. They always let motorcyclist use parking lots on weekends for bike shows. Maybe everyone could cruise the boardwalk. We could all go get third gen tatoos with pics of our cars

Hey sign me up. I'm down with that. I agree that maybe a more "unorganised" approach would be good. Just set a date and meet somewhere. Hard Rock / the Boardwalk would be a good place with plenty of parking at the outer edges of the parking lot. I'd love to meet up with a few and Myrtle Beach has PLENTY of things to do.

Thanks, Martin

I may know a couple other guys here locally that would be able to come as well. Lets make it happen! I think since this is the first time for this, it would not have to be too fancy or organized. We could all meet, go and eat, cruise the strip.....
Anything just to get the ball rolling!

Well, I am glad to see everyone took my advice. It is rolling along nicely and it shouldnt be too long before others start to notice. We are just Americans excersising our right to assemble. Since everyone is not 21 who will be attending, you will need a meeting place. I still think that Hooters would be the spot. You also have to take in account the summer will be the busiest time of the year. Taking into account most of us have T Tops spring or summer would be idea. 4th of July will be crowded and hard to get parking or prioroty treatment. Just something to think about. How about mid June after school lets out. Also notify other areas people might want to trailer or drive in.

I'm thinking that we need to try to get in touch with local GM or Pontiac Dealers (Don't know if anyone has tried) and see if we can get someone to get the word out.

Maybe local sponsers. I may be able to get some people around here to try and get the word out. (Exhaust shops, Body shops, etc.)

If we can't get it to work in Myrtle beach, there's always Savannah, Down around River Street. There are a LOT of car dealers around that area taht I'm sure could help out.
(If it sounds like a good ideo or a bad one, lemme know)

I dont think dealers would get involved with a production car that is no longer in production. You have to remember these are businesses. Whats in it for them? Yhays why I suggested a informal get together. Once you get busineses involved there is permits, insurance....ect. As I said, bike week didnt start with 50000 bikes. Just a couple of guys to start. Take the t tops off load up the old lady throw a couple of cold ones in the cooler and go down to mingle. Hell with the vendors, they just want to rip people off and cruise down the road anyway. Some enterprising person should make up some t's.

Like I said before ..... July 4th is busy. BUT isn't that part of the fun? I mean if we wanted to be alone, we'd meet in the parking lot of a Wal-Mart after it closed in some one-streetlight town. Besides that, July 4th isn't the MOST busy week. It isn't like Bike Week, 'Black' Bike Week or Senior Week. It's just busy enough, IMO. Plus there are a lot of more 'mature' people in attendance on July 4th. I know because I've taken my vacation on July 4th at M.B. for the past 4 years. I agree that a Hooters or somewhere at Broadway At The Beach (like the massive parking lot in front of the HardRock Cafe) would be a good spot to formally meet. I also think that someone that has dealt with Hawk's should see about getting him involved (if nothing else than just to help spread the word). Pontiac dealerships couldn't care less!

JS tell your boys in GA to show up! In fact maybe we can get the webmaster to post meesages on all the boards. Alot of people in engine /carb may never know about this. He he will not then casually mention in post. But, if you read back a few post to SS response you will understand why this has to be informal. Talk is cheap, we need to set a day.
