I hope everyone is doing fine on the coast. My house is more inland, and the winds/rain have been pretty nasty since yesterday. It's just as bad, almost worse here at work in Winter Park.

Re: Volusia County Florida!
anyone going to the junkyard? if you do and happen to find a steering column in good condition let me know i am in desperate need of one. mine is shot right at the tilt knuckle. on the 88. just curious if anyone knows if a 350 from a 90 caprice will fit in my car and if the tpi setup will work on it. i found a guy selling one for $100 bucks 80k miles and runs like a champ. accessories and all.

Re: Volusia County Florida!
It will work Mike, just use the Acc. drive from you car and flop the TPI on it. You'll want to upgrade to a 350 PROM and injectors eventually, but it will run fine as is w/ the 305 stuff. For $100, I'd jump all over it. It sounds like a great deal if it runs good.

Re: Volusia County Florida!
I think you can get a complete set that will include everything. I would regasket the whole thing - minus head gaskets, while it's out and easy to work on. Great time to do a timing chain and a HV oil pump as well. And if money allows... a better camshaft. MAF systems are forgiving with camshafts as long as they are fairly mild. Just food for thought...

Re: Volusia County Florida!
regasketing is a must. i like to run synthetic and you cant with old gaskets. i was thinking intake, runner, plenum and throttle body. i need to price front and rear main seals. and valve cover gaskets. i would like to get an oil pan gasket too. while it's out. not enough money for everything though. i am going to try to take my time and rebuild the 305 from the 88 so that it can go into the 86 because it is already stronger. dont want it to be too strong or the wifey wont beable to handle it. it will be the easiest mild power exchange. an she will get a serpentine setup out of the deal but that wont happen for awhile. right now i need my car feeling better is all. btw wish i had money for a camshaft, chain and high volume pump but as of right now... dreams have to wait. thanks man

LOL It's always easier to spend someone else's money. FWIW - stock LT1 cams are a nice upgrade and can be had for around $50.

Re: Volusia County Florida!
here is an update fellas. the 88 is going to be getting the 350 from a 90 caprice. police package from what i am told. only like 80k on the engine. the guy who found the engine for me said that he would put it in for $400. i have no hoist or stand so i cant do it. i have until my gasket set comes in to figure out if he is going to do it or not. going to put the tpi setup on it and will switch ecm and inj. in the future. no other upgrades at the moment for it though money just got real tight.

Anyone need a Firebird dash pad? I can meet at the parkinglot meets when you guys have one.
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/inte...-dash-pad.html
Shipping seems to always be the deal breaker.

wow sky that looks really nice. i wish i had extra dough cause i would jump on it. but alas making my baby run right has come first. i ordered full gasket set last night too. $146 after tax. ouch! more money i dont have. but i need this engine so bad. the main engine bearings in my 305 are completely shot.
hey joe! good luck apartment hunting. how much you looking to pay a month? i can look too for ya. sometimes people ask if i know someone looking.

Mike, $400 for an install? Seems to me you could rent a hoist cheaper than that and borrow a stand.
Joe, I work right up the road from Full Sail in WP. I'm not sure if I have enough pull, but I sell to a few places in the area. I can see what I can do on my end if you'd like. The 3 that come to mind for me are: La Aloma, Sutton Place, and Sorrento.

yeah i kinda figured i would also need to rent a garage too though. i have no place to work and this guy is outta work... i did get a quote from my other shop that is part of the company i work for, and he quoted $986 before my 50% off discount so that makes it what? $493. i told him i could do it by hand cheaper than what his normal price was. i am going to get a stand though soon because i am going to slowly rebuild that 305 block to put into the 86. it's got more n*ts than the 305 that is in the 86 now. even in its current condition. i think i'll stick with this 350 for a while and bolt on some power options. for the long run though i may want a 383. i really wish that i had the money for a cam now and later on since you said timing chain how do you feel about the gear drive setup? i havent hear anything bad yet. they have noisy and quiet? wish me luck on being able to DRIVE the car again.

Re: Volusia County Florida!
I wouldn't use a gear drive, you will most likely pick up false knock from noise. Dual roller chains work fine, these aren't high RPM engines. A good dual roller will last a long time.
I didn't realize you were lacking a garage to work in. If I lived closer, I'd lend my 2 car garage for a weekend install. I've done at least a half dozen engine swaps in TPI cars. Just when I think I've forgoten stuff... it all comes back. Like riding a bike. lol

Re: Volusia County Florida!
anyone ever taken their car muddin? the engine and the guy installing both live on flooded dirt roads so i got both cars stuck. the 88 all the way to the floor boards. the 350 still has centerbolt heads. looked good. should have the car back monday night or tuesday night. weather permitting. i am really going to have to get new tires now. and this guy who gets his oil changes done at my shop... has a performance chip that he had in a 3rd gen iroc. said he spent $300 and only used it a couple of months. said he'll give it to me. i am excited about the car though. really can't wait to DRIVE it home. hehehe.

Glad to hear it, I am holding off on doing any more on my 91'. I have a friend comming up the last weekend of this month to see if he can help me fix this thing w/o tearing it apart. It would be nice, but I am bracing myself for the worst. I already have another low mile long block waiting to go in if all else fails.
On a side note - what happened to the SCFBA? Willie? Mike? Joe? Anyone have an answer?

Re: Volusia County Florida!
$80 picked up at my place, $100 dropped off in the Daytona area(meet up or to your door). If you wanted to meet in lie Bunnell, then $90.
I still can't figure out the fuel econ problem in that car. 18MPG used to be with my foot in it everywhere, now that's what I'm getting when i baby it. I used to get 30 on the highway, now I'm only getting 22 or 23. I'm half wondering if my lockup is working.

alright!!!!! you wanna talk about movin. wow! my car has some giddy up now. i had heard that the L05's weren't that good but i guess noone had tried it with tuned port. what happened was...
the wiring harness on the distributor was shorting and burned out the one from the 305. replaced that, put in different dist. from the 350 and harness from u pull it. replaced some damaged vacuum lines and now she is roaring like a lion. just need to tune a few things up now. gotta go.

You gain about 40-50 ft/lbs of TQ going from a 305 to a 350. It feels really good SOTP.

Re: Volusia County Florida!
hey guys im in ormond, ive got a 1990 RS with a 305 tbi in it , and im planning on taking that out and buying a crate 350 and sticking with the TBI. Does anybody know anybody in the area that is good with the tbi and the computers of theese cars and would be able to tune it up and make me a chip, i think ive found a pretty decent shop to do the swap, does anybody know of anybody else that knows alot about 3rd gen camaros and would be able to do a job like that.
I havent decided yet but im gonna go with the GM L31 brand new crate or the GMPP 350 330 HO?
anybody know anything
any info would be great
thanks
Rob

Re: Volusia County Florida!
I was looking at that 350HO a couple years ago, but then I noticed it uses a flat-tappet cam; not sure if they're changed that since then, however.
