Re: Volusia County Florida!
hey guys im in ormond, ive got a 1990 RS with a 305 tbi in it , and im planning on taking that out and buying a crate 350 and sticking with the TBI. Does anybody know anybody in the area that is good with the tbi and the computers of theese cars and would be able to tune it up and make me a chip, i think ive found a pretty decent shop to do the swap, does anybody know of anybody else that knows alot about 3rd gen camaros and would be able to do a job like that.
I havent decided yet but im gonna go with the GM L31 brand new crate or the GMPP 350 330 HO?
anybody know anything
any info would be great
thanks
Rob

Re: Volusia County Florida!
thanks buddy! i just got my new oil pressure sending unit put in yesterday. my gauge hasnt worked in the almost 5 years i have had the car. but since the new engine went in had to fix it. still need basic tune up and tires. need to fine tune the timing as well. when i get the injectors which #age should i go with? my old ones are going into the 86 since it has a leaking inj. it will still be a while on the injectors just need to get pricing and stuff. i still will have to get tires 1st. i would like new but used for now may be the only answer.

Re: Volusia County Florida!
Just get an EPROM for an 88' with the 5.7L if you want a stock chip. Otherwise, make sure it's a TPI car chip for an 88', and DL a BIN file from this site. Don't waste your money on a hypertech, JET, etc. They don't do much, basically they just throw a bunch of fuel and timing in @ WOT.

I'll be tearing into mine at the end of this month. I am slowly buying a few odds and ends for the other long block. (valve springs, gaskets, t-chain, HV oil pump)

Re: Volusia County Florida!
now how do you go about setting the minimum air? i still need a timing light. but idle is good. i need eprom, injectors, plugs, wires, dist cap and rotor. i am just going to get the 24lbers. that way i can just get a stock chip. good luck with yours.

I'll PM you a link for setting min. air. Stock injector sizing is 22lbs, not 24 IIRC.

i will try and see if i can find out anything for you rob. i would think that with a little pc know how you could figure out the programming part. i have heard though that it takes several tries to get the desired results you want. give me a few days to ask around otherwise.

Re: Volusia County Florida!
Hey guys, I was just over at the Deland Pull N' Save on Garfield Ave. They've got a couple cars there that may have some useful/hard to find stuff. '87 Trans Am with a complete non-a/c setup and foglights (the good ones seemed to be still with the extra bumper cover in the hatch) and there's an 82-ish Camaro with what seems to be a complete crossfire inj. setup, salvageable looking Lear Siegler Conteur seats that would just need a reupholstering (says "CAMARO" all over them), plus the fiberglass hood with the ram air slots. Most of the body panels looked good too, just thought i'd toss it out there incase anyone needed something.
Oh, incase anyone spots a good pair of those UQ7 performance sound speaker boxes, the ones that go in the sail panels and hold a 4x6" and a 5", please let me know, i'd like a pair of those. Getting tired of how these 6x9"s blare in my ears.

Re: Volusia County Florida!
Yeah, that T/A did have a hood; I didn't get a really good look though, the struts were actually good and it was up. The vents were gone, but I didn't see anything wrong /w/ it, nothing that jumped out at me anyway. It's a strange looking car, appears that someone attempted the Rust Oleum paint job in red and crucified it.
When I lived in NY, I had a pair of those UQ7's stashed under the workbench that i'd pulled from a GTA, and like an idiot I gave them to a friend who has since lost them in the cataclysm known as his basement. If I can get my hands on a pair of those again, I think i'm gonna find some 5" midbass speakers to run with my sub off my 4 ch amp, maybe even 6.5" ones if I can make them fit, and then run some cheap 4x6's off the headunit rear channel just for a little bit of rear fill. I've already got plate component 4x6's in the dash. Hopefully it'll balance out better than the current arrangement, the mids and highs from these 6x9's are always screaming and drowning out the fronts.

Sounds like what I'm going to be doing next week, and possibly beyond. I'm not elligible to apply for another promotion, as I just got one 2 months ago, but I'm qualified and they NEED 5 more team managers because our center is going 24/7.
I just love tech support.

Bueller! Bueller! I saw a few of the SCFBA guys up at WH last night. Mike & John stopped by last weekend to check on my progress as well. Other than that - seems like it's been pretty dead lately.

Re: Volusia County Florida!
Sounds good Mike, did you fix the heater? I need some tires badly, but not in the budget. So I have another worn set here in my garage to get me by hopefully.
On a side note - I have a set of stock manifolds and a 90% of the dual cat Y pipe off of my car if anyone wants it. The TPI car manifolds are bigger than the manifolds that came on the LG4/LO3 cars. If you can't afford headers this would be an upgrade. I'll give them to anyone that wants them.
And lastly, I need a red driven speedometer gear like woah. It's the one that goes on the output shaft. Mine shattered when I tried to remove it and transfer it to my new transmission.

Should have checked this thread before I went but I was in Daytona Beach friday. Saw at least 4 thirdgens while I was there and one of the life guards actually yelled at me "nice bird." Don't know if he was on the website or not.
I saw a black 82-84 Bird, a Red 85-90 bird with the black bump strips in the front bumper, a Black pre 91 camaro, think it was an iroc because it had the louvers on the hood, that was on I-4, and a white 91-92(i think) convertible camaro, I didn't get to see the ground effects but i know the hood louvers it had were from 91-92.

Re: Volusia County Florida!
if i slide to heat and give it a day or 2 then it starts blowing hot. as soon as you slide to cold 30 secs then cool air blows. i havent a clue as where to start. i also have to buy a new throttle position sensor because mine is on the blink. one thing after another.
my tires are so bad at the moment that worn out shoes with holes in the soles have more tread than you can see on my car. i am not going to know what to do with myself when the rubber meets the road.
new tranny?

Re: Volusia County Florida!
Yeah, replacing the engine and transmission currently. Also installing headers at the same time. I think the timing chain jumped a few teeth, the car ran like ***. And the transmission had been slipping for over a year. The fluid came out brown and smelled like a burnt corpse. I'm hoping to have almost everything finished up by this weekend. I haven't had as much time as I would like to work on it.
I'm finally getting around to installing all of my aftermarket parts I've been draging around for over a year. I'm going to have to mess with the tune some to get the most out of it all. But, it should be fairly close right off the bat.

Looks like i'm in the "I need tires" club too, at least front ones; been running one of my directional Kumho's in the wrong direction due to conical wear and a bad tire pull, and the other was worn so bad I had to throw a used BFG on there to get me by. Tirerack has the 16" Sumitomo HTR-Z's for like $69, think i'll just get those.

tire rack start to finish for the order leaving warehouse to my front door... 13hours. they got my vote. still trying to get the 88 running right as well. the tps i think is still geeking and the wiring harness may be bad so i have a new one of each on the way. napaonline is a little slow. good luck everyone with all the projects going on.
just saw the msd6a on your sig. i am going to do an ignition box before summer is over... if things go as planned.

Hey Mike, I was over at Deland Pull N Save today, that t/a hood looks like a winner, might be worth your while if you still need one; it would just need the vents reinstalled.

I'm still working on my car as time allows. If I could just stop breaking things, it would go a lot smoother. But, the car is very original and over 17 years old. I had a few of the connectors on my harness shatter when I went to unplug them. Still have to track a few replacements down. Other than that, I just have to fab up part of the exhaust and it's mostly done.

Re: Volusia County Florida!
i wonder how much the hood costs? thanks for looking. i do need one mine just looks so blah! these new tires are great! i only ripped it once though leaving the shop. my friends that work there told me it was a nessecity since they mount & balanced them for free and disposed of old stuff too. see rides alot smoother now. still waiting on napa to send tps and harness though. on a previous thought... i wonder how i would get the hood home should i go out there and like it? hhmmmm. might have to call in a favor. i still think i want an ignition box anyway. i may be looking for a throttle body soon too. looks like the springs and things my be sticking. one thing after another.

Are you just going to go with another stock TB? If not, Summit has 52mm TB's fairly cheap now days. The plenum is already opened up enough from the factory to accept a 52mm TB. On a completely stock car, it won't add much if anything. But, on a modded car they do help when you've run out of things to do. I saw a 7-8 RWHP gain on my old 86'. FYI - that car was pretty much full bolt ons and a cheater cam. It had a factory base manifold, but it was extrude honed & port matched. Other than that, everything else was aftermarket.

I just noticed you said, "before summer is over". Man, it's damn near winter already. Did you mean next summer? That just confused the hell out of me... hence why I shouldn't read the boards this early in the morning.

Re: Volusia County Florida!
Oh I do, they cut my hours at work a few weeks ago. I'm taking home about $50-$80 less per week now. I've been looking for ways to cut back and save some money each month. I really wanted a better shortblock and set of heads for the 91', but it just isn't anywhere near in my budget right now.

Re: Volusia County Florida!
Happy Thanksgiving fellas! Turkey Rod Run starting.
I just bought another turn signal control box so that the 86 will have Sequential Signals like the 88 does. they are only $56 and work with any vehicle with 2 to 3 signal lights. look for sts round 4 in the electronics board.

Re: Volusia County Florida!
Mike, you really need to check out the SCFBA board. It's for all generations, but there's a lot more going on locally with that board. They had a "pole barn" party this past weekend. It was a blast! Had to be at least 35+ people and lots of nice cars.

I finally replaced my heater core. I do need to take the time and flush my coolant again. I kept topping up with water and it got nasty. I didn't have the time to do a proper chem flush when I drained and filled last time, so now I have coolant just swimming with rust. I figure I'll wait until January or so and replace my water pump while I'm at it.

Re: Volusia County Florida!
I just sent in for one of those STS boxes myself. Saw sequential signals on a mid-60's T-bird once, been wanting them ever since.
Are any of you guys selling stuff in the Turkey Rod swapmeet? I've got a small pile of parts I could use some help unloading.
