I FEEL SORRY FOR THOSE SNOWBIRDS

Came home from a stressful Monday at the office, fertilized my St. Augustine, built me a **** Creek, enjoyed a fried pork chop w/ turnip greens - limas - green beans - & a biscuit, put on shorts & a sweat, dropped my top, cranked up the Dobbie Brothers, cruised the loop around Bayou Texar, opened her up down I-110, and breezed along Bayfront Parkway home. Thank the lord for 3rd gens!

Re: I FEEL SORRY FOR THOSE SNOWBIRDS

I took the T-tops out for the ride home from work yesterday for the first time. It was nice to have enough daylight left to get the lawn work done and give the Z28 a bath.

Re: I FEEL SORRY FOR THOSE SNOWBIRDS

I would suit me just fine if they would keep daylight savings time all year round. You eastern time zone guys are lucky - you now have nearly double daylight savings time. The Sun sets in Pensacola at 6:55; in Hogtown at 7:36. What I could do with those extra 41 minutes of afternoon daylight!

I agree about keeping daylight savings time year round. I look forward to the time change back as soon as soon as we have to fall back in October. By the way, I guess you must have lived in G-ville if you know it by Hogtown. Alum?

Yep; BCN75. Also, my two sons graduated from UF - BCN04 and BCN06. We go to 5 or 6 football games each year. Are you a Gator fan?

As a matter of fact, I am. If you look at the corner of the building facing the camera, there are three windows on the ground floor just to the left of the corner. I'm sitting right next to those windows as I type this!

From this pic it looks as if you have your windows open. Must be a beautiful day. Leigh has always been one of my favorites. I know I'm prejudiced but that's one gorgeous campus. Where did you get your degrees?

That picture must have been taken sometime after the 50's, but before the 70's. The long wing on the left side was added in the mid-50's for pharmacology, and since the 70's, there's been a building behind Leigh Hall (CRB). Also before central air in the building so all the windows were open. It was completely gutted and rebuilt just before I got to campus in 1994. You can see my current labs just to the left of the entranceway on the ground floor.

I did my undergraduate work at Bucknell (Lewisburg, PA), my Ph.D. at Cornell and was a post-doc at Penn State before moving to U.F. in 1994. I've been really happy here ever since.

I noticed something wasn't quite right when comparing the pictures. Hear are a few others. Enjoyed the chat - Go Gators!. BTW, please post a pic of your ride (or both). I never tire of viewing vettes or Camaros.

Re: I FEEL SORRY FOR THOSE SNOWBIRDS

I'm jealous of all you guys! I'm in PA right now for high school and all I can say is I'm glad this year is almost over! Too cold, too much salt, not enough corn bread, greens, and back yard BBQ! The only nice thing about this whole year was driving my Firebird roughly 1,800 miles. Couldn't even see the Iron bowl this year or anything else in way of football, we don't have cable. Come home in June and I'm definitely going to college near home and the water!

Spring is coming. I talked to my Mom yesterday in upstate New York and she just saw the first robin of the year. You're probably a week ahead of her in terms of warm weather, depending on where you are in PA. Enjoy driving your Bird.

You're a lucky dude Bounty600. Having a a Firebird in HS must be a blast - I had nothing but my mother's Olds on occasion. Good luck on the balance of your sr. year. Here's to you getting in the college of your choice!

I just put up some pics of my car in the Camaro section of the Members Rides forum. I finally had enough daylight to snap some pictures of the car after work.

BOO GATORS! Go *****! lol

but it is great to be able to drive with the t-tops out in february as i have done or in early march, especially with the extra hour of daylight.

and its always good to see someone that breaks the typical stereotype of a ******* thirdgen owner. it just goes to show that these cars are desired by people who arent just *******s and are college educated and even have a Phd in your case.

Beautiful ride Alchemist! From all appearances, clean & pristine. You are indeed a credit to the Z28 family. With a Z and a Vette, your students must be as impressed as I am. I have never posted any pics of my love. I'll endeavor to do so. BTW she has spent time in Hogtown.

Good grief 86cockbird. While the professor may have a Ph.D., I don't - what the heck do all the *s mean?

Firebird - thanks for the kind words. I hope you're close enough to Columbia to enjoy some of Maurice's Barbeque. We always try to time our trips so we're passing through around lunch or diner. I can't say that I'm typical in my department, though. Most drive imports or hybrids and talk about expensive wines. I take some good-natured kidding about being into Vettes and muscle cars. Working on them is a great way to relax at night. With five vehicles to maintain, though, oil change time looks like the traffic at a Gator football game!

Thanks for the compliments. I try to keep everything neat and clean. Some of my students have seen my web page describing the in-progress restoration of my 76 Corvette and think it's pretty cool. A few know about the 89 Vette convertible, but I don't think too many know about the Z28 yet.

Re: I FEEL SORRY FOR THOSE SNOWBIRDS

lmao. i just saw my previous post. i cant believe TGO blocks r.e.d.n.e.c.k.

vette gator, i am a current USC student and drive by Piggy Park/Maurices on the way to campus every day. maurices is pretty good, but it doesnt compare to the taste and experience of eating at Shealy's in Batesburg-Leesville. All you can eat buffet of the best barbeque and southern cooking in the state IMO. It would be quite a detour though coming from Gainesville to go to Shealy's as its about 40 miles west of columbia and almost and hour's drive but its definately worth it.

Re: I FEEL SORRY FOR THOSE SNOWBIRDS

Sounds like we need to pass through Batesburg-Leesville in the not too distant future. I have a story from a visit to Maurice's you would appreciate. My wife and I were driving home from Christmas break and were in a Maurice's in Columbia around noon on New Year's Day. They had the radio broadcast of the football game on in the restaurant. My wife listened for a minute and asked, "Who's playing?" Everyone looked at her like she had three heads. Finally, I said, "Umm, that would be South Carolina, whose campus is here in Columbia." My wife isn't too much of a football fan, as you can tell.

Re: I FEEL SORRY FOR THOSE SNOWBIRDS

haha. thats pretty funny. yeah, everybody down here seems to take football real serious (myself included. but not as much as some people). i remember goin to one of the sports bars in Columbia after a football game this season and Clemson was playin. that place was incredibly loud and lively, but every single TV they had was on the Clemson game and every time somethin bad would happen for clemson, the place would go nuts. it was great.

Ah Gainesville, the most charming pinko lefty town I've ever had the joy of living in. Got married, first kid, and bought my 92 camaro rs heritage, all in one town. Sweet memories. If you ever had Interior car work done it may have been at L&S Auto Trim. L&S has been in business for 50+ yrs in gainesville. I had the privelige of working there for 3yrs. Me and my wife bought a small home in northwood , after 2yrs with the housing bubble we sold for twice it's value! The traffic will make you homicidal. But then again for such a small town, it has unbelievable amenities!

This really made my day! People must have heard me laughing all the way down the hall. "Traffic will make you homicidal" - priceless. I'm a bit surprised you were able to find a third gen in Gainesville. I found lots and lots in the Miami area, but virtually none around here. I had to drive to a dealer in Sanford for my Z28.

Amazing how much Hogtown has changed since I left in '75 but in many ways stayed the same. Archer Road was 2 lanes then; now its a trip through hell.

Wow, that's a gorgeous car. You're not kidding that your son took very good care of it while he was driving it. If I didn't already have a convertible, I'd have probably bought a car just like yours. A good weekend to be proud of your car and happy about your newly-expanded family.

Gorgeous picture. Is that near you? The azaleas are about done here. When I was in Washingon a couple of weeks ago, some of the cherry trees were blossoming, but I suspect right about now is the peak of the season.

I think I know which insurance company you mean. There was a fourth gen for sale there last year.

Re: I FEEL SORRY FOR THOSE SNOWBIRDS

It's a picture of my backyard taken a few . . . kidding; found it on the net. Our azaleas peaked a couple of weeks ago also. There aren't as many around here as there use to be. Incredibly showy plant - too bad they only bloom such a short time.

BTW professor, how many muscle cars do you have; 2 vettes and a camaro? Let's see some pics of your vettes.

i was thinking of how nice paynes priarie is this time of year!
I almost got bit by a snake there in 1975. PP must be an unusual feature for Fla.

Too bad about the NIT. I was looking ahead to a rematch with OSU.

Re: I FEEL SORRY FOR THOSE SNOWBIRDS

Willie - from that picture of you I suggest you increase your caloric intake.

Gainesville in the 50's must of been sleepy deep south. Like most of Fla. it's changed in many ways. When I was in school (pre I-10), it took 7 hrs on mostly 2 lane roads to travel P'cola / Hogtown. On a recent visit to St. Pete, the bride and I took US98 & US19 between T'hasse & Chiefland. I got a kick out of it- it hasn't changed hardly at all.
