Re: Florida meet anyone?

Cruising or just having our own get together at a restaurant would be cool but what makes sonics on beach blvd different than a regular sonics? Jacksonville is 3-4hrs away, farther for most so doing what we could do in our home towns doesn't sound like fun. What does Jacksonville have for us to do? I say daytona beach would be better location wise.

Ya, it would be nice to meet somewhere. Daytona is a good central point. There is a hog dealership just off 95 in daytona. Lots of parking a bar w/food.
I think they have a meet once a month. I'm about 45 min. from there. I think it being just off 95 makes it easy to get to and in the middle jacks and orlando. I'm up for it.

Sounds good, I think we should also probably give this a few months so others can see it and possibly get more cars to go. Mid-end July would be a good time.

I would be in for a meet as long as it isnt too far from me. I am in Tampa, and have been wanting to find some sort of third gen meet for a while now...

Bradley, you could just meet me off I-4 and we cruise over there together. I can probably get 3-4 other third-gens to go with us. I'll put a post up on Fl-Thirdgen.org as well.

That sounds good to me. July just seems so far off from now, lol.

I've been meaning to ask, do you work or did you work at a car wash on hillsborough? I swear I have seen your car there a few times..

Yes I do. I haven't driven the Bird since the Beginning of January that's why you don't see it anymore. I have a Geo Metro now as my daily driver. The bird is getting a few things done to it now that it's not my DD anymore.

It's okay you don't need to push it off a cliff, I got your Bird running for you.

BUMP for this event. I'd really like to make this happen.

Re: Florida meet anyone?

I'd love to meet up and go for a cruise, but even Daytona is a little far for me. I'm in Orlando and I think I'd have to take a loan for the gas I've never driven the car that far yet, but I may try something soon to see how the car does. If its ok, then I may head up there.

Bump. Sounds good Built. We haven't really established an exact location yet. Larry mentioned a Harley dealership off 95. If anyone has anymore recommendations, please post.

Re: Florida meet anyone?

Only reason I though of this place was easy to get to for most people, lots of space, about middle. I found this web page to get directions.......
http://www.destinationdaytona.com/driving.asp
If someone has a better place please post it. Only problem I forsee is everybodys air better be working. The july heat is a killer. I don't have the air
working yet in my TA, so a 1 hour drive without air could be a problem for me.
Maybe we should push up the date to get things started. It would be great to make this once a month thing. This could be a big help to bring more third gen people together.

Re: Florida meet anyone?

The only problem I see with having it at that Harley location would be if they had something going on that weekend. Could be they have something going on every weekend. How about parking on the beach?

Re: Florida meet anyone?

hey guys,

might i suggest for a later date that we get a meet at a track of some kind. An already scheduled event might draw a few more people. more to do. plenty of parking and shade, bathrooms, food, etc.

here are some links od sates.

autox.
http://cfracingcomplex.com/autox

cfrc street drags on sats.. dont start til 6 tho
http://cfracingcomplex.com/information/event-calender

sunday fundays dont start back til sept.
http://www.speedworlddragway.com/schedule.html

runday sundays at bradenton
http://www.bradentonmotorsports.com/calander.html

or if enough people were interested we could rent out the cfrc track on a sun. im sure there are enough people on here and the other boards that would like to make unlimited runs.

I myself, have no interest in making 17second passes. The autox/track would be awesome though. It's been a while since i've gone autocrossing. How about we bring this up at an actual meeting. Then you could plan it out on different forums and let anyway who goes out to this meeting know about one of those events?

What happened to the OP?

Re: Florida meet anyone?

Mike 22115 is in the Jacks area. I think this is leaning to a central Florida meet. This may endup being 2 different gatherings. The guys in Jacks won't drive 2 3/4 hours each way meetup, as the guys in central area won't do it either.
I won't take my car to the track, I can't afford another 700r. Nothing holds up in my car if I beat on it. Some day a 6 speed.
My car goes 160 miles on a tank of gas (combined driving). The guys in jacks area would be driving 200+ miles round trip to some where near Orlando (I used exit numbers on 95 for mileage). It takes me almost 3/4 hour just to get to 95. I live south west of St. Augistine. For the guys in in north, Green cove springs might be a better place to meet. The central guys Orlando. If both groups could have their gatherings and have a collective gathering 2 or 3 times a year. Just a idea to maybe get things going. We also have to get the word out to non members. This would bring more people to TGO and more interest to 3rd gen cars. Just my 2 cents.

Re: Florida meet anyone?

im SOOOOOO down for a meet! but i live in south fla. Miami. so just to get to orlando it'll be 3-3 1/2 hours.. but ive never joined a meet with other third gens and ive always wanted to. my air works so thats a plus for the long ride. and i think july or something would be perfect, with the way gas prices are, i can put some money aside here and there so it wont be so bad

Re: Florida meet anyone?

It takes me a little over 2 hours to get to Daytona from Tampa. I don't mind making the drive. Orlando works also Larry. Orlando is the central point between north and south(along the east coast). Chevy Heavy, that would be great if you could attend. Are you all still wanting to make this a multi generation event or just 3rd gens? I believe LS1tech just had a multi-generation event. I'd like to keep this 3rd gen but if others show they are more than welcome of course.

i have a place in both melbourne and bradenton.

i just picked up an 88 firebird 350 with a 5 speed.

I would be down for the drag strip over in bradenton. i was told this car can do quarter mile in 12.

Easy there chief, just trying to help you find a venue for the meet. Im in the same boat as you, my car isnt done. Id be driving the wifes vert, and that wont see any track time.

personally the only difference i see in meeting in a parking lot or the outfield of a pit area is the exclusion of non-street legal cars.

parking is parking

anywhere you have it is good for me. I met some good people the other weekend in lakeland, and looking forward to doing it again.

Didn't mean to come off hostile or anything, just saying your idea is good and we can plan for it at a later date. Would be something to discuss during this meet. I heard you had showed up at the Lakeland meet. I showed up as well. Unfortunately you had already left.

Okay, between Jacksonville and Ft. Lauderdale is COCOA BEACH. That is roughly 3 hr drive from those cities. Anyone from Cocoa Beach that can give a good location for a meet? I've only been there once.

Re: Florida meet anyone?

Thats 145 miles from me, about 2.75 hours away for $100 worth of fuel both ways (thats being optimistic @ 12mpg) I don't know if I can trust my car being that far away from home, even though it has never let me down before..

And how is the east coast a mid-ground for all of us? That seems like alot of us would be driving further than we would have to, than if the event was closer to the actual middle of florida? I know its hard to find a proper venue for all of us but one of the coasts doesn't make much sense to me..?

Re: Florida meet anyone?

Bradley, the reason for the east coast is because most of the interest is coming from the east coast. Also, this 2hr and 15min drive is less than those coming from Jacksonville or Ft. Lauderdale which is 3 hour drive. Placing it in Orlando would make the south have to drive a lot further. The panhandle already has a thread for a meet anyway.

Re: Florida meet anyone?

Okay, I guess I'll just wait and see what the final plan is before drawing any conclusions. The drive to the general area of cocoa beach is 2 hours 45 minutes which I guess could definitely be worse. Also the idea of a beach location is much cooler of a location than just a random place in central FL anyhow. We'll see what pans out, I guess.

Jay, July 23rd.

Bradley, you would have at least 3-4 of us heading out there with you. Why are you only getting 12mpg???

Yeah, if I break down atleast I'll be with some thirdgen buddies, lol!

I am only guessing 12mpg, and honestly I only said that because it's interstate driving, I swear it feels like I get more like 9-10mpg.. Probably because the PO took the old rochester off and added an edelbrock performer intake, MSD distributor and Holley 650 on the LG4 and I think the jets in the carb are too big and sucking too much gas. Not to mention the transmission can be finicky around 3rd gear but its fine when cruising, its just stop/go that it doesn't like. I just love my car too much to NOT drive it, lol.

Hope to see you there. Bring as many others with you as you can. This seems to be a fair distance from everyone who has posted in this thread. Sucks about the gas mileage though.

JAY, if you do come out, brings others with you. Would be good to meet up again and see how the car is coming along(if you have gotten it on the road yet.)

I'll try to get the others to go, but I'm guessing it won't happen. Everyone is in various stages of some project.... kinda like me! lol

Re: Florida meet anyone?

Im in the Orlando area, but i'd head anywere. If there's enough ppl maybe we could do 2 or three different meets. Orlando one month, Jax the next, Cocoa the next etc. Multiple chances for everyone, just a thought for the summer.

Re: Florida meet anyone?

AHEM Jim.....why am I just now hearing about this, and only because I jumped on the forum????

I have contacts at a bank next door to the Hooters across from Daytona Speedway. If no one is set on the location, we can park at the bank and hang at the Hooters....

Whatever is decided, I will be up for it. I determined I am getting about 18mpg on the IROC, which is better than my truck....lol. And my a/c is now working!!

AND...the 23rd will mark the 1 year anniversary of her purchase! Amazing all of the stuff I have done to it in one year. But, then again, all the stuff I haven't tackled yet either...lol.

Dakotaram, I like the idea. The place will be cool, we can get some food and sit around and talk.
