Re: Sept 11, Noon, TGO Meet Battleship Mobile, AL (Gulf Coast)

I just made the drive to Fairhope.. jeeez it is slow going from Panama City. 3 hours and 45 mins to go 130 miles! And my only alternative is to drive 45 mins due north to 10, and then still have 130 miles left plus another 15 miles south to get where I went. But I will have my Iroc staged in Fairhope if it's done by the 9th. Right now running into major time issues on the build due to TCI sending me a defective flexplate, and the pistons being so much lighter (3 ounces each!!) than the ZZ's that a full balance has to be done. If all works out, I'll have the 3 day weekend to build the engine and get it back in the car. Might very well be a trailer queen for this gathering!

well if everyone get there by noon than 3 will be 3 hours later , and that would have a farthest away getting home at 8 or 9 depending on time zone, im going to get there about 11:30

i say try to be there no later than noon, that way yall can have the most time before its time to head home

also if its this big we need to start up a a list of supplies

Food
Drink
Ice
Charcoal
Chairs

i will bring a cooler and some ice and water ...... prob bring more just see who offers what

best way is take 98 to 293 the toll bridge, left on 20, right on 85 north to i-10

Yeah that's the way I run to Holt. I almost went that way but traffic was bad in either direction, and I knew I'd have to end up in downtown Pcola coming down the 110 to catch 98 anyway, so I don't think it would have made a difference in time and would have added about 30 miles to the drive. I hate driving with deadlines like this. We were trying to make it to a funeral home before 8pm. We could have pulled up exactly at 8 so we just went to their house instead. Worked out great though, got to see a lot of family I haven't seen in 5-10 yrs.

Take 98 to 331 north, then take 20 west to 85, or just take 331 north to I-10. no toll bridges that way save some cash. That's the way i normally go when I go to Thunder Beach.

Well I've got a trailer but my plan is to drive it from my Brother's house in Fairhope over to Mobile and back to Fairhope. In case it breaks down, I wouldn't refuse a ride over to Fairhope to get my towing rig! However I think if I can get this thing finished up, once it starts and I do a couple hundred miles of tuning driving it should be fine.

if i understand correctly that the gauge fuse is what keeps blowing i would look for a bad switch, ground, or a short in the areas highlighted in green. Since you mentioned the audio alarm and that's part of this green section i would look at that first. perhaps the audible alarm relay went bad and it's causing the circuit to overload. Good Luck.

that's what led me to highlight the area i did. if it affected other systems then i would say it was the main lead shorting. the mileage thing leads me to think maybe the VSS buffer.

i can recommend a couple of local shops if your interested.

Re: Sept 11, Noon, TGO Meet Battleship Mobile, AL (Gulf Coast)

well its only the gauge fuse blowing none of the other one and i put the new cluster in and it work fine the od works and the trip works so that fixed one of my problems now this one. i did put a new flip up light on it b/c my other one broke but all i did was change the old and put the other one i got in then a week later this happens would that be possible to have something to do with the fuse blowing ever time i put a new one in i hooked up the motors for both my headlights and only the right side works the left side dont so i just leave them both up thats fine with me

Brian, according to that diagram Da Spudro posted, when that fuse blows you will lose your brake lights. Just make sure you check them after it blows to see if they are working. My money would be on either a short in the brake light circuit or the DERM module.. particularly the DERM (airbag control) since that car had been wreck previously. Do you know if the airbags ever deployed when that damage happened? Even if they didn't, when that damaged happened up front it could have an airbag sensor module wire pinched and causing a short.

Oops brake switch might be the brake fluid sensor and not the lights. Looks more like this could be a cruise control wiring issue or airbag control circuit problems.

i'm only about a 20 min drive away from you. i don't mind helping but sometimes electrical gremlins can be real PITA's. i'm still tracking down an electrical issue on my 91 Z28 causing the Idle to surge erratically used to run great no not so much. if you want one of these weekends i'll offer up my help if you want it. can't make any guarantees, but another set of eyes and hands might help.

Re: Sept 11, Noon, TGO Meet Battleship Mobile, AL (Gulf Coast)

He needs help finding the cruise control wire that comes out of the bottom of the steering column. That needs to get unplugged and I bet it fixes the problem.

Made some progress on mine tonight. Windshield wipers all back together and HVAC harness all plugged in. Just need to finish up a couple of new wires and the engine bay will be all done. Hopefully the balancing goes smoothly this week so I can get this engine in by next Sunday. Would LOVE to cruise it across the Mobile Bay Bridge for this meet!

Re: Sept 11, Noon, TGO Meet Battleship Mobile, AL (Gulf Coast)

well i should be able to show him where the cruise control plugs in under the dash. should be a vacuum break switch which should track to the steering column. if not i'm sure i can track the wire down. only if my help is wanted/needed.

If the brake light switch is part of the circuit put a fuse in let the car idle for 5 -10 min then push and hold the brake and see if it pops

Re: Sept 11, Noon, TGO Meet Battleship Mobile, AL (Gulf Coast)

Trans Am may turn over 100K for the first time ever heading toward mobile. If it does i might get a little teary eyed but so happy she has lasted this long. I guess hard work and dedication pays off.

Finally my car is fixed. I have been dealing with this starting issue for a year. The tilt pin wallowed out causing the rods for the ignition and high beams to be out of adjustment.

Weather is certainly going to do its best to affect this. Hoping this system will move out of the area by Weds.. if so it should bring some cooler weather for the weekend.

Hoping to have my engine pretty much finished up tonight. I've got the short block finished, just gotta bolt the heads on and put the cam & lifters in. Still a lot of ground to cover before I will be able to bring it.

Re: Sept 11, Noon, TGO Meet Battleship Mobile, AL (Gulf Coast)

I should get about 150-200 miles of driving in before then with tuning runs.. although it appears this rain is going to stick around all week. As long as it will start up and drive onto the trailer, I'll drive it to the meet from across the bridge. By the time we get there my wife will have a good tune in it lol. She's gotten pretty good at making the Megasquirt do its job!

Arrrrgggg! Comp Cams sent me the wrong cam!!! They sent the retro-fit roller cam which doesn't have the step nose for the retainer plate. Looks like I am going to be able to make it work by using a standard old style timing chain and a cam botton. Damn good thing I bought a cast aluminum timing cover.

Use a heat gun for what?
Yes heat guns will loosen up old adhesives.
They also loosen up and blister paint and sealants

Believe or not fingernail polish remover works slow, but it works.
be careful of the paint.

If I am not wrong there are SEVERAL posts on the topic of t-top weatherstipping. I did my first replacement following the instructions from this site. Leaked a little where the t-top met with the door seal, but never from the body part of the t-top area.

The wrecks today have been horrible, along with all this rain, it got worse with a 3 car wreck on Hwy 98, and the TA has been going this fast for the last 20 mins. Im pretty ready for the meet guys, even though im not missing alabama at all since i did almost 40 hours of work over there in a 3 day period.
