2014 F-Body Gathering G-18

http://fbodygathering.com

When: May 23-26, 2014
Where: Atlanta Marriott Northwest Hotel, Atlanta, Georgia
What: It is a gathering of all Camaro and Firebirds. It is best described as a reunion, a show, a celebration, and a three day party. It is family friendly. See the web page or facebook page for more information.

For those that are new, a group of us have gone every year for the last few as TGO. I myself have been going since 2006. There were very few third gens and since we came together as a group every year third gen participation has grown. Lets make this year bigger than the last.

Whos all in?

Re: 2014 F-Body Gathering G-18

Thanks for posting a tread Tony!

I Can't Wait for G-18! Our first year was 2009.

Someone said a few years ago that this is like a family reunion that everyone wants to come to. A group of car folks who get together each year for a great weekend, and a car show happens to break out. If you've never been, than you've never seen anything like it. This is not a typical car show. The Gatherings are an an event that just happens to have a car show. Lots of V6 awards.

We plan to be there with Amanda the 86WS6, or maybe I'll bring the 89 IROC with no engine just for kicks and giggles??? Of course we will be hauling some gear in the trailer with the car behind Big Red. We plan to bring the 12 x 20 canopy, and "the table", the TGO Banner, a couple of American Flags, and sense the theme this year is Support Our Troops, the American Flag Windsock party lights. We'll steal/borrow some electricity from the hotel when no one is looking, so Tony are you bringing the electric powered beer cooler?

This is the link to my photo album from G15. This will give you an idea of what the G's are all about. The only part that is not documented in this album is the party every night that starts at 9PM. Look it over and enjoy.

http://s288.photobucket.com/user/gcs...?sort=3&page=1

Anyone who wants to bring anything to add to the mix, feel free. Of course bring yourselves, and your F-Body car if you have one. A car is not required though. Just good people having a great time.

Re: 2014 F-Body Gathering G-18

Kevins got the cooler fridge now. I will bring a loaded cooler though. I Ill be riding up from Savannah if anyone wants to tag along.
Im looking forward to getting together again. We could use a head count over the next month or two so we can reserve the parking we need.

This year I would like to set up the canopy either on the parking lot. It seemed more friendly and sociable.
If anyone has any other ideas, requests or suggestions, please share.

Cant setup on the parking out. Has to be mounted to the ground. One of the rules...

I'll be there with my third gen. Two of my fifth gens and some friends. Idk where we are parking yet..

Re: 2014 F-Body Gathering G-18

Sorry Tony. I can't keep up with who has custody of the cooler... I remember that it belonged to Kevin first.

I agree Tony 100%. The canopy absolutely should go in the parking lot. I'll PM Andy and Chad and let them know that is what we want.

For anyone who wants to park with us, when you register for the gathering, register your group as Thirdgen.org or as ******t Militia. Our goal as Tony said is to promote thirdgen participation, however it is not uncommon for owners of 4th gen and 5th gen cars to park with us. You V6 owners don't be bashful. We are very friendly to owners of all F-Body cars, regardless of options or condition. We'll even allow owners of 1st and 2nd gen cars join us. We are not a snobbish group, however if you show up with a Mustang, and you'll have to park outside of the event area.

For anyone new to this event , remember to register for the event and for the hotel separately.

THE CANOPY CAN be setup in the parking lot. I haven't wrestled and hauled all of 5 gallon those buckets of NC red mountain clay for nothing. Dug it right out of my horse pasture... That's how it's been done for years, and IS ALLOWED in the RULES. We can thank the smart folks over at High Octane for thinking of that idea many years ago. Most of the canopies are tied down using that method.

Re: 2014 F-Body Gathering G-18

I'm in again of course, have been going since 01' and no plans on stopping. Do you guys want to do the cruise to Joe's Crab Shack again this year? I can get it set up, might be a little early right now tho. I still live like 15 min from the event and work is just about within walking distance, so if you guys need anything down here let me know.

For those that don't know the new Braves stadium will be within walking distance from the hotel. So if we are still able to have it at that location in 3-4 years it would be a great time to get a Braves game in.

Re: 2014 F-Body Gathering G-18

This year im planning on driving up in the car. so far the family said they want to sit out this year. very possible i can split the room costs if anyone else is interested.

Im all for the cruise again this year. last year i video taped it. this year im riding in it.

a few other things ive been doing and probably can use some help.
1. i know there is a show the following week at the raceway. however, ive been posting and emailing Camaro performers, super chevy and gm high tech, to get them to show up and or bring a car.
2. papa johns pizza founder is based in Kentucky. Ive sent a few emails and posts their way, trying to get his attention. they like to do charity events, so ive been trying to get john to bring his Camaro to the show, and maybe host or lead a cruise for a charity, like the wounded warriors foundation.

i brought the ideas up to chad but haven't pushed it being im not a show coordinator. i don't want to step on toes. however, as a member of a participating group, and we get them to come...

i don't think Charles meant to be or sound offensive. ive known him a few years now and hes not that kind of person. we all appreciate any input from anyone. i do have to say that all the years ive gone, most canopies have been set up in the parking lot. last year was the only time we had set up in the grass.
please don't be offended. we look forward to seeing you in may.

Well said Tony. David, my intent was not to "yell" at you. Canopies are set up in the parking lot every year.

David, canopies are allowed in the parking lot as long as they are secured so that they will not blow over in the wind. Of course no one is allowed to stake down a canopy in the parking lot. Our canopy has been set up in the parking lot every year except G-17. Tony, Danny and I remove the cover and store it when bad weather is in the area. I have 8-5 gallon buckets of dirt/clay that I keep stored in my garage all year just for this purpose. The buckets take up a 1/3 of the available space in a long bed pick-up truck hauling them back and forth just for the purpose of securing the canopy in the parking lot at the gatherings. If the number of spaces are an issue than I am willing to pay Chad and Andy for the two spots needed to set up the canopy.

Tony, I send Andy a PM yesterday with our requests.

Jordan, if you are willing to set up the cruise again, great! Thanks!

David, I think that maybe we got off on the wrong foot. Sorry. You and I have communicated many times over the years on various websites, however I am not sure that we have met in person. I think that I remember you from Georgia F-Body. Lets make it a point to meet face to face this time. I want to get a close up look at that gorgous red Camaro of yours. Tony, you are as an important of a member as anyone else here. If you can get Papa John's onboard for a chairty event for Wounded Warriors please do it. I don't believe that anyone will feel like their toes are being stepped on. Even if Papa John's does not get onboard with this, maybe we can do something for WW's? Be thinking about this before I order the banner so that if we need to add anything to the banner we can. The banner should be ordered by April 1. Do we want to do Joe's again? It is OK with me to do Joe's or another cruise destination if everyone wants to change and Jordon does not mind. Makes no difference to me either way. Seems like Tony likes the Varsity. Joe's will be easier for Jordon to set up, and it is a nice easy route from the hotel. Since Jordon is the one doing the leg work, he should have the final say. Jordon, are you going to contact Andy/Chad to let them know that you are willing to set up a dinner cruise again? Thanks in advance.

You never said anything about buckets just in the parking lot so was just trying to make sure you didn't get in trouble. No I don't think I've ever met you. I use to be a mod on gafba before it died and also tried to buy the site and keep it going. I parked right across from you guys last year I believe randy with the black ls1 formula from gafba also that was another mod. I am bringing our two 5th gens this year and not 100 percent the third gen is going. Might be in the paint booth. We will see.

We have been setting up our canopy in the parking lot using the buckets of dirt to secure it for several years.

See you there!

Re: 2014 F-Body Gathering G-18

Hi Jamie, Welcome Back!

I was planning to drive down on Wednesday, however the hotel discount code is only good for Thursday-Sunday, so it will be Thursday. I plan to get there early and get the canopy set up. Last year I ran my a** off and am not doing that this year.

Jordan, do you have any thoughts about the cruise?

Everyone seems ok with Joe's again, so that's what I was planning, unless anyone objects. I'll handle all the stuff again and get directions printed out this year so no one gets lost.

Jordon, I don't see any reason not to do the cruise again at Joe's.We stay through the Farewell Breakfast on Monday AM. One of the first things I plan to do when arriving on Thursday is set up the canopy.

The theme this year is "patriotic". I will bring my large American Flag we can fly over the canopy. I guess any other red white and blue decorations will work too.

any other ideas or suggestions?

Post if you are coming from West of Atlanta. I'll be leaving from Dallas Thursday, staying the night in Vicksburg, Miss, and then finishing the drive on Friday.

Re: 2014 F-Body Gathering G-18

That is on the Tail of the Dragon. I went for a solo ride out there one Saturday in the 86 and bought some pictures online from one of the photo vendors. We live in Bryson City on the NC side of the Smokies, and are only 2 minutes from the Hell Bender, US 28. We are about 25 miles from US 129. I have been trying to get an F Body meet organized there off and on for several years. Maybe a combonation of the TOD and Rod Run?? So far we have not had much success. The Panther club, Crown Victoria/ Grand Marquis/ Lincoln Town Car club has met out there several times, and we have always had a blast. I have an 07 Crown Vic LX with P71 engine and a sweet suspension set up. That big tank absolutely tears up the Dragon. It really makes the import owners mad to get outrun on the Dragon by a cop car. However it is a lot more fun to take the 82WS7 or 86WS6 out there. Both of my TA's are low mileage, original, and bone stock, so the're not that fast. I can't wait to get the LS6 powered 89 IROC together and see what it will do on the Dragon...

Click on the F-Body Gathering link at the top of this page. The address is 200 Interstate North Parkway, Atlanta, GA. 30339. The event is Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Car judging is Saturday morning, however there is something going on almost every minute of every day and night.

Re: 2014 F-Body Gathering G-18

I knew it was about time to be checking in. Hi Charles. Current schedule says no I can't go. I'm not home until 1 June. I'm disappointed because I've made it there the last 4yr in 1 way or another. I will be home in time to do the Hot Rod Power Tour.

I can say The Gathering is an awesome time to anyone who hasn't been yet.

Hi Bob, Sorry to hear that you can't make it to G-18. We will miss seeing you there. Any chance your schedule will change by May?

The photo above is from a meet with the Crown Vic Club. If that big four door F word car looks that good taming the Dragon, imagine how good our F body cars will look?

We should get a meet together later in the summer or fall.

Schedule pretty well set this year, I finagled last year, this time I need to be here.I was just looking at previous years pictures. One other thing that has been traditional for me and my son was to go to the Braves game on the Saturday evening during The Gathering. I'll miss that too.

I'm hoping HRPT 7 cities in 7 days afterwards makes up for it. You should try to do the 1st leg, Charlotte to Knoxville. I'm sure they plan some pretty curvy roads for that leg. Btw, that's a great shot off Amanda on the Dragon.

Re: 2014 F-Body Gathering G-18

We usually attend the Pontiacs in Pigeon Forge each June. That event is the same weekend that the Power Tour comes through Knoxville. I have been thinking about jumping on the Power Tour at Knoxville, and staying through Indiana.

As far as driving Amanda on the PT for me is that after four spinal fusion surgeries, with six vertebra fused, I don't do well driving long distances in most cars. Low slung cars like F bodies are some of the worst for me. It's the angle one has to sit with one's feet out front. I can tolerate riding long distances in a truck or SUV a lot better, because one sits more upright. Riding in a Trans AM for 10 miles and I start to hurt. By 50 miles it becomes an exercise in pain endurance. After 80 miles it becomes unbearable. Love the F-Body cars, but they sure don't love my body. I would love to take Amanda for a run on the Power Tour, but that's just not possible. It would be pretty stupid of me to think that I could get away with it, because I know that before we reached Johnson City, I would be in pain off of the scale.

So if we do the Power Tour, we'll end up having to drive the F-350. I'd rather get to do the PT in the truck, then never get to do it at all. I thought about towing Amanda. That way I could unload the car and participate in track events and such. Right now it's all up in the air...

Re: 2014 F-Body Gathering G-18

We are going to have to sit this one out. I was diagnosed with prostate cancer last week, and will be in the middle of treatment by the time G-18 rolls around. The good news is that it is treatable. I hope you all have a great time at G-18! Maybe we will see you next year for G-19. Charles

Re: 2014 F-Body Gathering G-18

Thanks Tony,

There is a chance that we can make it to G-18. I will know by the middle of May. It all depends on how things are scheduled. The doctor wants to start me on chemotherapy. Before starting the chemotherapy they need to get an MRI so that they know where the cancer is and how large it is. There are multiple tumors, but we don't know how many more have not been discovered. The MRI will show this. They have to wait for blood that accumulated from the biopsy to clear out before the MRI will show clear pictures. Around three to five weeks after starting the chemotherapy they will start the radiation. All of my treatments are going to be done in Knoxville, about 100 miles from my house. So every day I will drive to Knoxville, have the treatment, than drive back home. The hospital is going to let me work light duty when time permits. So it is really a matter of timing and scheduling that will dictate if I can come to G-18. If I can come, all of the canopy, flags, table, some really nice American Flag lighted windsocks, and other assorted stuff are stored in the front of Amanda's trailer. So if this works out, all I have to do is hitch the trailer to the truck and head to Atlanta. Betty is all in favor of going because she is supposed to attend a baby shower for great grand daughter number 2 in Valdosta on May 24th. If we can go, our daughter in law only has to drive as far as Atlanta to pick Betty up on Friday, than back to Atlanta on Sunday. Otherwise She will have to make two round trips to Bryson City. So we are trying to work it out. If I find out any information sooner, I'll let you all know. Charles

It would be great if you can make it Charles, but please don't push yourself. I know we would all much rather see you have a good quick recovery!

Tony, did you bring your canopy previously? I think I remember us having a different one some year. Do we need any additional supplies this year?

Oh and it looks like we will have an additional member this year. My daughter wants to enter the General Electric class. So she will be around most of the day Saturday I think.
