Yeah Joe, Myself and few others are planning on going Friday
night.
I'm planning on leaving the east valley (Gilbert & i-60) around
5- 5:30pm to get out there with enough time to spare. So anyone
in the east valley who wants to convoy, let's set up a meeting
place. Perhaps the QT gas station on Priest and i-60??

If ya wanna meet up, let me know ASAP. I just got done installing
my new air dam this morning. I'll be testing it tomorrow. Hopefully
that will cure the overheating problem. LOL

Firebird is a more"professional" type track. Speedworld is more of a mom and pop one. Just my opinion. Speedworld is more laidback and easier for tech checks. They do have 8 staging lanes compared to less at firebird. You will probably get more passes in at speedworld. When I went they never cleaned the track even once. For appearance and class firebird is better. I am told their tech checks are harder but I dont really know. Imports generally hang out at firebird as you said. There was only a late comer to speedworld last friday. He only made two passes.

Firebird, aka FireTurd, sux. They rip people off. Their safety
standards are off the scale, in so many words they're bad.
They don't have a medic crew on stand-by, let alone they
don't have an ambulance (big no-no in the NHRA guidelines).
And last but not the least... there's too much ****. Last I
checked the ricers took up over half the populas at FireTurd.
Oh, and, the distance between the track and the bleachers
is like miles away.

Speedworld is the opposite. You get your monies worth.
They have a safety crew, as well as their own ambulance,
always on stand-by. AND they don't have but one or two
ricers attending, only 1 for every 20 American Rod's. And
to top it off, the distance between the track and the bleachers
is at Least half the distance of what FireTurd's is... moreso,
about 3/4's Less, so you're right up with the action!

The only set back for us living in the east valley, is the trip there.

But for me, it's not that big a deal. I'd rather drive the extra
miles to a better track anyways.

Professional??? But I guess to each is their own.

Like CaptPicardsZ28 said, it's a matter of personal oppinion.
Sure the tech at FireTurd may be a little more stringent. But
I can say that Speedworld really isn't any less with theirs.

The last time I was at FireTurd they had a roll over accident.
Let me just say how '****' they were when people ran down
the outside of the track with their video cameras to tape the
aftermath. The crew freaked out and threatened everyone to
go back to the stands, or else. The reason for this, is they have
liability issues and they don't want to be caught "with their pants
down", basically. The liability issue is there is no safety team.
There is no ambulance, and there is no paramedic on site.
So you can imagine what would happen if one of those 'videos'
got out, into the hands of the NHRA. They'd loose their support
of the NHRA, one of the biggest things keeping FireTurd going.
Think about it.

I was talking from not much experience at either but yes I think fireturd gives the appearance of a more professional track. My preference is speedworld for racing my cars. You can stand in the staging lanes while waiting and get real close to the action. Very friendly people. As far as driving there it is about the same amount of time for me...one and a half to two hours.

Where you located? I'm past the middle of Mesa (Gilbert & i-60).
LOL* yeah the drive there is time consuming, but well worth it,
even just to watch the races. The food is fairly good too.

Almost forgot to mention... I installed the new air dam and drove
the TA to work today. It still wants to overheat. I'm trying to
figure out what to do next. Should I flush the system??
On the way home tonight it seemed to run just a hair over the
220 mark on the guage, yet I have a 185 T-stat in it.
Any helpful tips would be great.

I'm in northern az. As far as your cooling problem goes, Get a heat gun and check the intake temp. Your gauge could be off and if you have headers with the sensor near them the gauge would read 20* hotter. Squeeze the hoses when they are hot (use a glove) to get any air bubbles out. Your bottom hose may be old. Change to one with a spring in it. It could be collapsing under throttle. Check to make sure there isnt a bunch of crap between the rad and a/c condensor. Your stat may be bad. Check for flow in the rad when warmed up. Usually rads clog from the bottom up as well. Just some ideas for you. See you guys in a few days. I'm on vacation till saturday.

The TA is pretty much all stock, as far as the drive train goes.
I have manifolds with the air rails. Joe (1989 T-top) mentioned
on the phone about checking for air bubbles, and as far as I can
tell, after squeezing the upper hose and getting all the air I could
out, it still rides a little hot. On the way home tonight it just was
up a hair over 220. I think there might still be some leaves and
pine needles stuck in between the rad. and the condensor. So I'll
see if I can get that cleaned out Friday morning. I'll take out the
rad. and see about flushing and re-filling it. I hope that it'll be
ready for friday night. My T-stat, BTW, is new... 185 temp. Joe
said I should put a 195 back in it. What do you guys think??

Also, how picky are they for a cracked windshield?? Hopefully not
**** like FireTurd.

A track that teched a cracked windshield through would bother me *alot*... I don't see it happening. Fer crying out loud even ADOT would throw a fit. Is Speedworld a sanctioned track? If so, tech guidelines are probably on the sanctioning body's website.

My firebird had problems with over heating also. I swaped a low temp 160 thermostate in replaced the radiator hose, pulled out the radiator and made sure nothing was blocking it. Which there was a couple of sucked up dorito bags up there... Make sure your air dam looks to be functioning correctly not flapping in the wind or somethign wierd. If everything seems to be normal, then you might consider doing what i did. I did mine wrong but theres some posts on how do set this up better on the cooling Threads. I set both of my fans up to a manuel switch. This keeps me running at about 160 most of the time but i never hit 220 anymore even in rush hour. Hope this helps some.

Mike, Speedworld will let you race with a cracked windshield. I raced my Mustang and my 89 GTA both with a big crack in front of your face. They didnt say anything. Now if it looks like it was hit with a shovel and is all busted up, then yeah you might have a problem. They wont care about a crack though. But put the 195 t-stat back in. Running a cooler one wont make the car run any cooler. It would probably make it worse. The thermostat would stay open all the time making coolant flow too great not allowing it to cool properly.

Im not getting rid of the car for that reason. I thought you knew me better than that. I took the car out there Friday night just to see what it ran before the engine swap. I knew it would be a dog. I think you just need to listen a little better when people talk to you. BTW, get some paint on that car and put it back to stock. You know itll never be done otherwise.

Painting is in the works. It's all lined up for this coming month.
Should have it done by end of Sept. As for going back to stock,
forget it. Just because you didn't finish your KR replica doesn't
mean it's impossible to do. Everyone's always in a rush, and
when you're in a rush you take short cuts... and I won't short cut
the TA! I'm taking my sweet @$$ time, no matter what
anyone says or thinks.
That's just the way it is...

Car: 4 Mopars total

Transmission: T/F and New Process
Axle/Gears: Three 8 3/4's & one 9 1/4
I didnt finish my car because I grew up and lost interest in it. I chose to stop converting and to put it back to stock. That car would have been done long ago if I had kept going. If you are making yours so "perfrct", why are you having a 17 year old kit do it for $500? Wasnt your 83 a big enough lesson to you as far as getting what you pay for? Ive completed more projects in the last 3 years than youve done in your whole life.

Growing up has nothing to do with it. I'm sure everyone has some
kind of idea as to what they'd like to have. To each is their own.
As for who's painting my car, he's no 17 year old. LMAO* And
when I said "perfect", I meant completing the job so it looks like
the TV series. Doesn't mean the paint has to be a million dollar
deal! So yes, paying $500 for a decent paint job is okay
with me. Like I said before, it doesn't matter what everyone else
thinks. It's what I want. I don't care.
No more comments.

EDIT: It's a car, not life or death~

Mike, I have to laugh when you say the words "decent paint job". That 83 was the most hideous looking thing I ever laid eyes on. If you think that car looked anything better than terrible, then you deserve whetever you have coming to you. The only way your 84 is going to look anything like the car from the series, is if you get t-boned by a train or something...and it might resemble the tv car after one of its big jumps or maybe a stunt gone wrong. I cant believe you destroyed that car like that. Oh wait, you must have saved that one from the crusher too. Gimme a break. That car is never gonna be anything. Just like your 83 was never anything. You dont have the maturity or the focus to work on one project at a time. So go ahead and keep primering over dents and buying junk for your astro van. And while youre doing that, Ill be over here with my nice cars actually creating something, instead of destroying stuff.

LMAO* What's maturity have to do with anything? You're one to
talk, Mr. "Seven shamy's and golf ball" kid's follies. hahaha
Don't get me started Joe. It's fun to have a laugh or two, but now
you're stepping over the line. If it's maturity you want, then it's
maturity you'll get. As for the cheap primer I threw on my TA, like
I've told you a thousand times (you never listen), it's temporary...
In other words it's coming off. If primer offends you, then why not
just say so instead of trash talking my car from the other side of
the screen?? I don't bag on your TA, & yet you say I don't have
the focus to work on one project at time... you're the one who is
always looking to sell your TA's. First it was the 83, then it was
the 84, and now it's the 88. Yet, it's okay for you to bag on me?
That's just messed up. Until you have a TA you can actually hold
on to, and say that You actually rebuilt the entire car (paint &
interior) I'm just gonna sit here and blow it off. I just can't believe
what I'm reading here and not hearing it in person, when you had
the chance.
