Fan Problems Help???
OK on my most recent drive to avondale my car started to overheat. When i say overheat i mean in the red. Well i pull over open the hood with the car running and noticed that the driver side fan was not even on!! Now my question, can i just replace the fan motors (if that is the problem) or would i have to replace the whole assembly. I have checked all wires and they are in good condition since the motor is pretty much pull out bolt on according to Haynes, would that solve it??

The fan motor can be changed independently of the other components. However, before buying a replacement, hot wire it to 12-v to determine if it's actually bad, as there are other parts in the cooling system which can prevent the fan from turning on. FYI carrying an extra fan motor is a good idea when going on the road, as are spares for relays, the heater directional valve and a short piece of metal or plastic tubing to connect the heater core inlet/outlet when it blows out on a hot day.

go to a junk yard and cut off the wiring pigtail for an electric fan
plug into fan and touch one side to the positive (+) and one side to the negative (-)
GM fans are bipolar so you won't burn anything up running them backwards if you get the polarity switched
if your fan runs like raped ape then it's fine... start looking at the relays suspiciously
I hope this helps

ok i fixed the fan. It was on of the wires that power wires that ran to the primary. It was broken just on the outside of the female connector. The thing is now it run hotter faster. I noticed that my fans spin opposte each other. the primary spins clockwise while the secondary runs counter clockwise. is the this the right way? also i am thinking of replacing the water pump once i get the money as that is the last thing that i havent replaced yet.

i might be drunk, or i might be a genius.. but i think the should spin the same way,, i only have a RS and i only have a single fan but you can look at the blades and tell which way the air is going to move if the fan is spinning, if its the wrong way.. someone did say bipolar so im thinkin... wrong polarity.. then again its 2am and i am drunk
