Sounds great. Looks like you replaced just about everything. Hopefully the third configuration is the charm and you'll finally go 12s

Congrats!

throttle body

out of curiosity... isnt a 52 mm tb way to small. Maybe someone can reason with my ignorance, and i didnt realize this until i got a 4 banger for college, but the 2.2 115 HP I4's in GM's pre 02 econbox cars came with a 52 mm TB. The new 140 HP ecotec engine comes with a 58 mm TB. I cant remember, but i think the stock TB size of the LS1 is 75mm and the new ls6 has a stock 90 mm TB. would the tpi engines not benefit from a bigger TB?

Yeah and all those models have diffrent intakes.. 52mm is much better then the base 48.. So probably not to small.. I have a 58 and it works fine.. A few people here will have a number of reason's I have no clue of what our intakes need better than stock..

If it was one bore, yes but a TPI TB is "two" bores of 52mm.

Well, I didn't read the first thread, but for the last 2 months, my car's been getting all the body work and paint done for about $3000. The weatherstripping will be changed out, as well as the right fender. Unbeknownst to me, this car had a previous accident and the fenders are almost unsalvageable. The paint phase is just around the corner.

Now that money rolls in on a steady basis, I don't think I will get this car back for a long time, since as I finish with one phase, I'll mover directly to the next, as money permits. After the paint phase, I will finish the interior swap to tan, with new carpets, and the rims will be swapped out to the '82 turbocast rims (which are already restored) and hubcaps.

After that, I'll probably add the SFCs, assuming Don will be free enough to do them some time. After that, I might reinforce the transmission with a shift kit, to prepare the drivetrain for a high performance engine & EFI swap from carburetor. Ideally I want to go with a zz 383 (or better) and aftermarket tpi (if available), which I will probably have to smog the car under the table (for visual inspections) even though I will try to use CARB approved parts. I also plan on installing a heavy-duty pager alarm, cup holders, GPS, dual-fan setup, and a few little novelties I can't think of at the moment.

Ideally I'd like to make this a sleeper car and a show car.

At this point, I'd probably take $40 for all the interior trims (some are carpeted)(no speaker covers), $10 for the headliner, $10 for both visors, $10 per door panel, $10 per seat belt (front only), $20 per seat, $5 per carpet piece (with floor mats), and $10 per rim (with tire). Finding this stuff at the yards in such good condition is almost unheard of.

But if you want it all, alex, lemme know. I might go a bit lower.

A bigger hole is actually not that bad

1/2" larger neck = ~ 20hp, not bad for $50

The experimental V6 intake is almost reading for testing. These little engine have prooven to be hearty if the complete intake path to the cylinder is freed up. The twist some high rpms and produce good power up top. This is going to be fun going were noone has gone before. If this shows potential, then I am going for a 250hp 60*V6 for everyday street use.

Awesome work, what does the manifold look like - meaning what modifications were done to the manifold to make use of all the air of the opened up plenum?

The plenum has been increased from about just under 1 qt stock, to 4 qts. The throotle body stock is 52mm, this is 62mm. The runners are shortened with the design over the stock length. What I am hoping for is increased volume into the neck of the runners. The stock setup has the air enter the runners 4 1/2" sooner and then have to make a very sharp 135* bend before the straight shot to the head. This hopefully enable the air to feed directly into the runners straight shot and not stave high end velocity. Simular designs with dual stock tb's and dual plenums using the same middle and lower runner lengths only(just as I have) have dyno'd at almost 50hp more on Fieros. Stock HP on these motors is only 135. Thats major. Thes little motors respond incredibly to turbo boost also when air is forced through the bends. 300hp+ on a stock longblock and stock plenum. The intake path is so restricted under N/A suction because of the bends not only on the upper to middle intake, but the final bend into the chamber on the intake port of the head. I will be working on this also to raise the port floor for a better angle. Here's a shot of the runner mouths next to the stock size, and showing the same principle as a V8 equivilent.

I got my PermaCool fan installed and running. Just looking forward to getting the k-member, a-arms, LS1 brakes, and rear end installed.
