I need an immaculate 85-90 IROC for a Budweiser Commercial
The only stipulations are:
Must be a hardtop
Must have factory “IROC” decals on the doors
No faded or cracked paint/moldings
Sorry boys/girls genuine IROC’s only
The premise of the commercial is there will be a couple of young guys moping through a used car lot when they happen upon this absolutely pristine 80’s icon. They look at each other, smile, slap hands, and the next time we see our friends is when they tap bottles as their new toy sits freshly washed and waxed in the background.
The commercial is going to be shot in Pasadena and will be during the day sometime between this upcoming Tuesday and Wednesday. Unfortunately there is no compensation available for use of your vehicle however it’s a great opportunity to gain a little exposure for yourself and our club.
If you are interested in submitting a couple of images of your vehicle please feel free to do so. Please and go ahead and post then on this thread and I will forward them to the appropriate individuals involved in the decision making process.
Don’t worry…if no one steps up, I’ll make sure the Goose gets the gig…

It absolutely has to be a hardtop? My buddy's 89 IROC would have been perfect cept his is t-top.
EDIT: Wait, we have our car club logo on the hatch window so I doubt that would go over well.

A new member at the dinner had one with original paint looks good exc for a dent in the right rear at the taillight about 2" x 4"

Actually it's not different. I have a real shitty digital camera that does not capture the color. If you sit it next to a 4th gen or a c6 the color is exactly the same

I'm just curious how you happen to be involved in this?
The Chicago office of the advertising agency I work for has Budweiser as a client and does all of their TV. All the great Bud spots you see during the Superbowl as well as during your regular TV viewing come out of DDB Chicago.
How are you connected?

Most of these advertising account and marketing people aren't car enthusuiasts. I deal with this kind of stuff all the time and I know how picky Art Directors and Account Execs. can be.

We just did a print shoot for Wells Fargo using an "Eleanor" Mustang clone and it cost $750 for the car for the day.
Budweiser spends good money for their TV spots, so I'm finding it difficult they expect to use a "freebie" car. What's the full deal Mike?

It just struck me a little weird is all. As I mentioned, our Chicago office handles Budweiser's TV ads, so I was surprised to hear Mike saying he is talking to the "marketing lady" about helping out with a Bud TV shoot.
It also sounded a little weird that they wouldn't offer some kind of compenstation. Even if it's $200. For a TV shoot, that wouldn't be much.
Now, for a magazine shoot, Mike's request sounds right on target. Magazine's have small budgets and like to do things as cheaply as possible. And yes, I've worked in publishing too, so I have experience Art Directing magazine photo shoots.
On a side note — if Mike is still looking for a car, Fred Young at Valencia/Power Chevrolet has a pristine, bright red, '88 IROC.

I don't think I'll ever have a car that could pass muster... Even if I could afford a new paint job.
It's cool that that somebody's making a commercial with a 3rd gen though! At least one that's not being wrecked or thrown off buildings.

Sounds like it is more of a "spec" commercial (one a production company makes and HOPES to sell to the company they are trying to advertise in the commercial) as opposed to an already backed commercial by the advertising company... Hence not paying for the car. Otherwise it would have to be under SAG and the car owner would get a lot of compensation in residuals...

Yeah, the big wheels, no louvers on the hood. But for the split second shot it did stand out, which I suppose was the intent. Have to admit, that ad was different. I'd like to slap my boss like that.

It wasn't even close to the best, but nobody from the club chose the car. It was chosen by a producer looking for a car without a clue what to look for. Probably the best 3rd gen in southern California was turned down because crappy pictures made it's Sunset Orange Metallic paint look brown. I've seen Paul's car I was blown away by how much nicer it looks in person than any pics I've seen of it. I would put Paul's Third Gen up against any Third Gen anywhere in any car show!
