just bought an 88 5.7 irocz trying to fix engine but dont know what to do!!!!

i have a 1988 iroc z thats pretty good considering its a 5.7 l 350 and i bought it 1300$ in sep 2007 i struggled to get this car and i want to fix it up.so the last couple of months i been tryin to fix it i tuned it up ,but ever since then the power has dropped and it consumes more fuel. i dont kno cars well and i have nobody to help me,and i cant afford a mechanic ,my moms says sell it but i wanted this car since i was in 3rd grd my uncle had a 78 z28.i need some one to tell how or were to fix the engine pls help me im young werk at a crappy job and go to skool and the majority of my money goes into it so if u kno anything plz tell me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thnx

First, slow down, take a deep breath, and use punctuation.

It could be one of a million different things, so you need to start with the basics. Read all the tech articles on the main page of this website. They deal with topics you need to know to work on thirdgens.

You said you did a tune up, what did you change/replace? You probably have a wire not hooked up or mixed up with another wire. Crossing the spark plug wires is easy to do, too.

If it ran decent before you started, and then didn't run after the tune up, the problem is something you did in the tune up. The most likely problem is mixing up a couple of wires when replacing plug wires, or leaving a wire loose. I found a problem I had with my T/A when I did the last tune up was when I put some dielectric silicone grease on the boots of the new plug wires, it sealed on the plug so well, that it created air pressure between the plug and the wire that kept pushing the wire off the plug. Naturally the problem would be with #8 and not #1 or #2 which are out in front and easy to reach.

One other thing comes to mind, did you drop a spark plug when you were doing the tune up? Plugs come properly gapped in the box, but if you drop one and it lands on the electrode, the gap can close down. If you don't reset the gap to the correct distance, you won't get enough spark at that plug to consistently fire that cylinder.
