Re: how fast have you taken your 3rd gen?

The day I picked up my '87 IROC from the dealer (in 1987) I pinned it on the way home! The car had less than 30 kilometers on it. I figured if I'm gonna get a speeding ticket the day I picked up the car it's gonna be a good one! I remember the needle bouncing off the pin at 245 KPH which is about 150 MPH and if I hadn't run out of road I might of gotten a bit more. My buddy, who dropped me off, went by me on his Ninja sportbike like I was sitting still. :-(

Re: how fast have you taken your 3rd gen?

You know I was thinking the very same thing (about the Limiter) I bought a brand new 86 T/A and at the time it was the Balls and everyone loved that car! My only problem seemed to be the top end charge and I opened everything up except putting a bigger cam in? I always wondered what the limitations of that little 305 TPI engine were?? Had good torque out of the Hole though.......

That was the advertised top speed. IIRC all the car mags all quoted 155 MPH top end. I don't remember what the RPM's were at that speed, I was kinda busy at the time! I used to go out on the 4 lane highway early on Sunday mornings when all the cops were in the donut shop and blow the soot outta her!

Found this.

http://www.carfolio.com/specificatio.../car/?car=4818

Specs they quote says 209 KPH or 130 MPH. My speedo musta been out over 25 mph eh?

IROC-Z dot com lists top speed at 143 MPH.

Yeah good idea. You don't want to get caught in Ontario doing more than 50 kms (30 mph) over the speed limit or they immediately impound your car and you get a summons to court. IIRC the max fine is $20K and they can crush your car too.

I've never been caught doing anything like that but I have had a few visits at home from the cops for a lil' chit chat!

140 going up a hill. Racing down some windy roads with 2 5.0 mustangs in the distance behind. One was my buddy and one was a random guy who happened to be going down the road and had a need for speed too.

I haven't really pushed it too much. I had quite a bit left in her too.

135, when it was stock. Way out in the desert someplace. I was disappointed it wouldn't go any faster.
It sucked the weather stripping out from the windshield, and everything felt like it was going to fall apart, so I usually stay under 100 nowadays.

I will factually say you are full of sh*t .

I had the most modified 2.8 V6 car seen (were talking COMPLETERLY MODIFIED EVERYTHING) and it would only reach 138 downhill with the wind behind it. I had 30k invested into this car. You are not going to do over 120 even downhill.

Re: how fast have you taken your 3rd gen?

I ran Cam up to 115, not long after I bought her.

I've recently gotten a "racing buddy" with a fast Z28, though, and have been over 100 several times in the past month or two. Might see if I can top 115 soon. He topped 120 the other day, but I pulled out at 105ish. Cop area was coming up quick, lol.

The fastest I've gone was 140ish in the passenger seat of a buddy's 1969 Dodge Charger. Gorgeous car. 440 6-pack. Me-ow!

No crap running down either of our legs, Logan, lol!

1st question everyone askes.

When you know me, you understand. It was not my first hotrod, nor my second. I currently am a crewchief on a NASCAR supertruck team, I know suspensions. I built this Camaro for my ex wife and now my daughters car. It was built specifically for the sole purpose of being a radically handling daily driver grocery getter. i am majorly into performance from a safety value. This car pulled 1.07 g's on 8" wheels and 102ft 60-0 runs. I have many cars and trucks, think of this my version of your moms mini van- which would you rather be dropped off at school in daily?

Wow, on the I-15 near Temecual? You were LUCKY you didnt get pulled over, there are pigs every mile with a radar gun on that highway. You cant even go 2 miles over 70 MPH on that stretch.

Re: how fast have you taken your 3rd gen?

On the way home from buying my 85 IROC i hit 135-140 just to see what she would do. Stock T5, 373's, and a 350 of unknown origin.

As a side note i hadnt inspected the car very well before doing this. I have since found a bad ball joint, realized that 3 of the 4 tires are bald and 1 is even showing bands, found a cracked rear drum, noticed a u-joint that needs replaced, and found a wicked vibration in 4th gear at near red line.

Thank God im alive....

Re: how fast have you taken your 3rd gen?

well, one of these days i would like to get out to utah and do the silver state challenge. especially with the new motor. i once got a ticket on I-5 near Aneheim at 2 am for 100+ in a 65. (was doing 140) ticket cost 350 but only got 1 point since i took the driver course available. two weeks later got a 79 in a 65 and got 2 points....????? i will keep it under 140 from now on. i like my money in my pocket and my car in my garage.

Re: how fast have you taken your 3rd gen?

80 Z-28 150 MPH @ 6800 RPMs 3.43 gears using the ratio chart, 85 MPH speedo LOL

87 Trams Am GTA 141 MPH just barely pegged the 140 MPH Speedo @5500 RPMs

Luv to pull next to ricers and hang back a little to see what they got then show them a little bit of American Muscle

That's lame, why the hell did they even put 85 mph speedos on some of these cars?
